    Rig in sig...

    P04 Bios
    3.4Ghz @ 1.23v idle/load, 1.25 bios (havent tried less honestly) Prime stable 8+ hours.
    Coretemp VID shows 1.12.
Real temp shows 35/33/33/35 idle and 55/53/53/55 Prime after 1 hour (70F ambient).

What is with my GTLref on this board??? Auto settings have one of them at +45mv for no reason? I set them all to 00mv manually.. What gives there?

    Heres mine.
Anything higher, no amount of vcore will get it to boot. I've only set vcore manually, all other voltages are auto. After having a look here, I might try tomorrow with some more voltages discussed, VTT, PLL.
Temps pictured are load, ambient 20°. Idle is ~35°.

I will try this out this weekend.

Didnt have much time to test yet. Though, I've run 15 hours+ Prime95 error free @3.2 (well, I left for a while - so just left it running).

In any case - I really want to get it stable at @3.4 (425x8) with 8GB RAM @4-4-4-12 .

One question would be - how much voltage do you guys think is safe for 24/7 use for x48 and good active cooling? (I've heared that it really should be running below 70°C... and also - that above 1.7v some people said it began degrading - and seems like safe is ~1.65v)

Any other voltages ideas in my case?

Not to mention it spreads 'instantly' as you tighten down the heatsink, so I dont think that is his issue.

Anyone have any idea about GTLref votlage and why mine, when on auto, shows +45mv??????

I never spread it around. i just put a little dab in the middle of the processor and mount my HSF. I figure its gonna get spread around like as soon as you mount your HSF anyway just like you mentioned. An I've never had a problem Using this method an temps have always been under control.

some new results for overclocking with 8GB of RAM

RP, I followed your advice and also checked out some forums. Indeed - loosening the timings helps a lot.

Running RAM @450MHZ 1:1 5-5-5-18 timings allowed me to overclock much higher. Currently q9450 @3.6; tRD = 8.

Voltages in bios: vcore 1.3, CPU PLL 1.56, NB 1.55, DRAM 2.02, FSB Termination 1.4.

Setting NB to 1.51 --> 1 core in Prime95 fails within 5 minutes. However NB@1.55v is also not completely stable, since one core errored after 56min of prime.

Using 1.55v for NB results in 56°C for NB max during benching (I've read that it should not exceed 60-65°C - apparently came from intel employee). It might be however, that there is simply not enough vcore (didnt try higher then 1.3 yet). In any case - will lapp cpu first. Also - will try to drop the voltages were it is possible. Seems like 3.6 will become my 24/7 speed.

Overall, I am very happy with numbers.

my chip is stable at 475fsb with small fft's 1.39v, im sure 480 wont be a problem if the board can handle it.

Try OCCT. My X3350 chip died on OCCT after it has passed 10K in-place prime95 for 10 hours.

Anyway, seems like I'll need a waaaaayyyy better PSU for what I want to do. Will do the OC next week then. For now, I guess I'll take a break and enjoy stock quad speed for the weekend.

So what motherboard do you guys think so far is going to be the best at overclocking this 45nm quad? I'm debating on ordering one of the new x48 chipset boards from either Asus or DFI. I'm hearing mixed reports about quad overclocking on the x38/x48 DFI boards though. I have an Asus P35 P5k Deluxe right now that I will try my q9450 out in first as soon as my new PSU gets here.

hmmm looks like boards just needs a good bios update to unleash the power of these cpus. I'm having a hard time on the P5K-Premium due to bios not fully compatible with the cpu. Guess will just have to wait a little.

I could do that kind of overclock with almost all BIOSes... so I'm not sure if it's a BIOS issue. It might actually be the board.

OCCT passed the (1h) test, but then i noticed issues i also had with my old E6600 chip, FSB limitations....i needed to increase FSB and MCH voltages for the PC to boot, not the CPU side but the FSB side.

If I had a X38-DQ6 board, I might be able to mod it for even higher MCH/FSB volts... but right now, I have only the ASUS P5E-VM HDMI board, and I can only mod that one board. (Expect an official thread about the board soon)

Oh, and 500MHz requires 1.732v real.
