    P4 2.4c SL6Z3 are P4 EE disabled????

i've heard a rumor flying around, that the new Packaging P4 2.4c SL6Z3s are actually disabled P4 EE chips. meaning , there are physically P4 EE chips with disabled 2mb L3 cache! from what i've been understanding, can someone pls verify if this is true!!

    old P4 stepping vs new P4 2.4c stepping.http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/dis...031135052.html

Sure is a damn big piece of silicon eh?
It's no wonder why the M0 is doing so well thermally and also why Intel is charging $1000 for the EE

Yep, that would be my work. I posted that on [H]ardForum a couple of weeks ago. AFAIK thats the only *real* proof that the m0 stepping SL6Z3's are EE cores...

They are NOT "Super" chips. You buy one and you take your chances on an amazing OC just like any other stepping. If its any consolidation though I have to admit that the m0 stepping cores do have a higher average OC than the d1 stepping...excluding the weeks 9, 10, and 11 Malay 2.4C....hehehe.

i found one SL6Z3 but I am still searching for some L321... the store who sells it has a higher price that I am ready to pay for a bulk CPU.. unfortunately And as long as I know this particular stepping is only boxed, I dont know whats that doing around there :> maybe a stolen one?

If the 2.4M0 has 2MB of L3 that is disabled why does the EE cost so much?!?

You think Intel could take it's price down a bit.

If the 2.4's are infact EE's then, they are most likely FAILED EE's and don't have the L3 cache, but could have the extra mirco overhead and maybe even the extra Heat...who knows!

    don't have the L3 cache
Look at the PICTURE...they DO HAVE the extra L3 cache. Now, whether or not it WOULD in fact operate correctly if it COULD be enable, that's a different story.

Doubt it, otherwise Intel wouldn't have disabled it in the first place.

also it has 75W rating and other 2.4C's are around 66W.. burn in hell bigtime :> Also it;s thermal spec around 72C.. if its not a performer you'll find urself some nasty hot cpu Also sort of heat-sensitive and with no proper cooling it will be difficult to attain some aircooling silence, like some slk900 92mm@5v ... I have that, and default speed 2.6C is ~52C full load(pca3+). Guess what that Z3 can do

Yeah. If the L3 cache worked, it would have been selling as a 3.2 EE. It's just a failed core. I wonder if having a much bigger die size is helping with heat transfer to the IHS though, and maybe that's why we're seeing slightly higher o/c's on average.

No the reason would be logically they pick out the best silicon to be deemed 3.2 EE's.
