    Post Nvidia 9800Gx2 Club!

I've started this thread to bring everyone together that has a 9800Gx2.
There are several issues with the card, so instead of everyone creating 100's of different threads, we all might as well come together here and work on them together.

Here are my current issues with my card:

    - loss of over 150fps when using dual display mode
    - FPS drop zone still in effect even after switching back to multi-gpu mode.
    - Card runs in the 70c's with 70% fan, clocks: 760/1100/1850.

I've heard the first two of my problems are driver issues and I hope so.

Other than that, I heart my 9800GX2!!!!!!

I have pretty high temps too. Is there a better way then turning up the fans to get it cooler?
Overclocking- The dangerous act of increasing temperatures and voltages in a small metal box and pontentially destroying thousands of dollars of equipment, while one's fate is transmitted to a small rectangle.

I use rivatuner 2.08 and keep my fan at 70%. From what i read, the card can go up to 100c then it starts clocking itself down, but i'd say under 80C is save zone for this card under load.

I haven't clocked my card that high yet, just 720/1850/1050 at which point my card idles at 55/51 w/ fan @ 1214RPM (75&#37. The thermal paste is new so I am expecting a drop of a degree or two over the next couple of days. When at stock clocks my temps are around 51/48 degrees.
I haven't experienced any problems with the card since I got it a few days ago.

    You re-pasted your gpu's?

I would love to re-paste mine with AS5, but i'm afraid of taking the thing apart...I don't want to show signs of taking off the heatsink or anything just in case I have to RMA the card.

how low have your temps dropped under load?

This seems to be what works best for me for the time being: 702/1782/1080. I ran ATi tool >10min w/o errors and multiple loops of 3DMark06. I used NVFlash and NiBitor to flash the BIOS on both cards and until there is a method to flash voltages I'm going to stay right here. Here's the link for flashing the BIOS in Dos.

I have no personal opinion on the card but will be getting one soon.

My step-up was approved, shipping my old card out tomorrow and will post back when I get mine installed.

I chose ground as I am in no hurry, and have another card to hold me over till then.

As well as I am on the east coast, can't get much farther for shipping from the west coast lol.

You know XFX are modder friendly cards so they don't care if you pull those things a part and re-paste em, watercool them or whatever. I Also have A Gx2 but mine stutters and hiccups so I am RMAing it but I bought an EVGA SSC and it will be here Monday...

I bought a Gigabyte Gx2 yesterday, took it home, no post, nada, nothing.
Tried it in my 2nd PC, same issue (the card was getting enough power etc but the motherboard did not recognise the card).

Took it back to the place of purchase and had it replaced (glad that they also could replicate the problem).

Now I have another one sitting in my bag here at work.. another 6 - 7 hours before i get home to try it out.. It will be replacing a 8800gtx, since I am on a P35 Mobo and not wanting to get SLI, this is the best option for now, and I have a work colleague wanting to buy my 8800, so all up, should be a cheap upgrade.

Make sure your p3 mobo is not a budget one. my gx2 blew my neo2-fr!

And make sure you have the PSU to run that bastard, make sure you don't use a 6pin to 8pin adapter. and hope that your 8 pinner fits, since there were fitting issues.

My PCP&C Silencer 750w fitted just fine tho

The new one works fine, going from the 8800gtx, instead of playing COD4 at 1280*1024 with eye candy max'd, i can now run it at 1920*1200, with same eye candy and have it sit on constant 91fps (running overclocked q6600 at 3.2), I can run it at 3.6 and I know it will give more fps, but i am happy with it so far. I have had SLI 7800's, 7950gx2 etc so knew what to expect from the 9800gx2 in terms of performance.

Hi guys , I have been offered one of these for a good price , but is this the way to go ? Are you guys happy with yours ? There are minimal results out there without extreme clocks etc , so please let us know how yours goes.

I will be volt modding and water cooling as soon as these are available .

PLEASE...post your bios from the SSC. I'd like to get it posted to mvktech.net so the pros can get that bios tweaked to the best specs. I plan on upping my stock GX2 to the ssc bios and see how she runs.

    Gracias!

Got dual evga's. Whats every one doing for overing sli gx2? Rivatuner only speeds up the fan on one of the cards at the moment.

    I'm trying to choose between 9800GTX and 9800GX2. Is GX2 worth the extra €€€ (or $$$ :P)?

GX2 costs almost 2x GTX. Is it near 2x better/faster?

It depends what you want to do with the card. If you want to go extreme, GX2 is the path to extreme. it is currently the fastest card on the planet and you won't go under 60 fps under any circumstances other than crysis.

But even in crysis, at 1024x768 everything set to high, 2xaa I get 100fps average, lowest 55fps..that's pretty damn good!

You won't get that with a single card.
