That might be true. They can more or less do what they want.

Unfortunately for them, so can we- and maybe what we want to do is buy ATI GPUs now because its easier to understand the ranking.....

Also- while they might have the performance crown, the % lead they have in FPS is not proportional to the % difference in price....

It isnt for some parts **cough** Ultra **cough** but how can you deny the 8800gt and 9600gt's price /performance over say 3870 or 3850?

Aye, that comparison is a good one. (and true)

IMHO, I think that success is overshadowed by the GX2 Vs X2.

It was supposed to be ironic, but I reckon you picked up on that

I'm not fully updated on the prices in America, but here in Norway, the price of bying nVidia over ATI is fully justified by the FPS-boost. The cheapest HD3870 is 1250kr, while the cheapest 8800GT 512MB is 1350kr (9600GT is almost cheaper than both HD 3850 and HD 3870).

It still isn't a bad budget card, even though i'd still opt for the 9600gt if i were in the price range.

    people will still buy it

they will put this in a HP or Dell desktop at best buy and say this "Own a new Quad core computer with a BRAND NEW 9 SERIES GRAPHIC CARD FROM NVIDIA"

Im still a nvidia fan boy...but the names have to go

im sure we will see the 9800GTO, and i think they will make revision of the 9800gtx and call it the same thing, but make it twice as good :/

Surely this conclusively proves that the only difference between the 8 series and the 9 series... Is the name....

    Precisely!
Hope my 8800GT doesn't get renamed to a 9800GS or something.

    Generalizations are, in general, wrong.

nah... that would be too simple, 9775 xXx KO GTO Superclocked OMGWTF cooled by Thermalcrap WC 128bit 16 GB DDR5 Edition would be more like it.

anyone looked at the inno3d graphicscards retail boxes? they dont even print the full product name on it anymore, they just write 8800 Series somewhere and then add a sticker to it cause nvidia changes chip names so often.

This is really ty. They could have cut the price on that card and maybe people would have bought them. But there is no reason in the world to just rename the card just to sell more. I think that a good argument for false advertising could be made in a court of law regarding this...
