    Nvidia renames 8800gs meet 9600GSO

    http://en.expreview.com/2008/04/04/n...force-9600gso/
When GeForce 8800GS got launched, it is an unpopular product. NV’s Dev team tried hard to keep its performance when shrinking it from a 8800GT, but because the lack of propaganda (yes i mean the leak slide, screen shot and spy pic), mainstream market can not accept this product in a flash.

Today, The card’s performance and price are similar to 9600GT’s. (Related: G80 VS G92, med to high end GFX cards round-up). So NV is going to change the name of GeForce 8800GS to 9600GSO, in order to Classify the card into the GeForce 9 series. From it’s current price and the new name we can sure the card will market target will be a little lower than 9600GT.

Also, G92 will be reflashed with the 55nm processing in July. We can expect some new GeForce 9 cards will be launched with the new 55nm G92, which can lower the core temperature and rise the core clock.

Thats amazing. nVidia are changing the names of products already released?

Well thats great- now that logic barrier has been broken, if they wanted they could:

DECIDE ON A SANE, MEANINGFUL NAMING SCHEME AND ****ING STICK TO IT!

In years to come, when people ask "whats in a name?," there will be new answers based on this debacle.

in lovely memories of the days when graphics cards had names like "geforce3 ti 200", "geforce3", "geforce3 ti 500".

i really hope nvidia will revamp their naming scheme with their next generation - as this generation will break the 10.000 barrier and i really doubt that they'll stick to their naming scheme then.

just imagine the overclocked editions: geforce 10.800gx2omfg superclocked xxx silencer UBER edition

    My thoughts exactly.

I'm also fairly certain nVidia lives to confuse the sh*t out of the their non-enthusiast buyers.

Have you guys ever considered the opportunity that nVidia is just messing with you all? That they thrive from reading people's rants, and that as a the current leader in the performance GFX market, they can do whatever they want?
...is no longer working as an assistant HVAC/R-installer...
But, is still blasting 20000 songs of real Rap
