One Drive or two? If you are going for a single Drive, Partition your windows drive with 75GB to just store apps, games, and OS. Then use the rest on a second partition and use that for storage.

Will this work maybe on other HDs? Like mine X2 250GB Seagate.

Any raptor vs WD6400AAKS impressions? I have two 74s and the noise is killing me after 2 years.

^do some folder copy tests onto each drive itself and report us the difference, please!
Although not quite the same, I have a pair of WD5000AAKS that I'll test in a RAID0 configuration if I have time next weekend. I just ordered two more RaptorX150's for my main rig which should be here late this week, so I can't guarantee that it'll get done in that timeframe. I just don't want to take down 2 of my machines all at the same time.
For the time being, this is my 4 raptor RAID array. 6 Raptor array benchies coming soon if anyone is intrested.
p.s. I'm not sure how accurate the CPU utilization numbers are. I ran these while backing up files from my backup drive to my home server. (backup drive is on the same controller)

what am I missing?
I have 2 raptor 150's, one side of the case open and I don't hear any steamships..............
wtf
get a couple of vantec tornado's and get back to me with your comments..............
like who cares if its shaken or stirred? I'm thirsty...............
I've got to agree, the noise from raptors really isn't that bad. Granted, I only have 4 of em' in my case right now, (2 more to be delivered tomorrow) but I don't hear any real noticible difference between my raptor array and the spinpoint array in my backup machine. Maybe a difference between the 150's and the old 74's and 36's? If you want loud, try the 4 cheetahs in my home server...
As far as the Vantec Tornadoes... LOL... those really are loud. In the old days I had 3 of em' running to cool my old AMD rig, and anytime I talked to someone on the phone they swore it sounded like I was at the airport "because they could hear the jets in the background."

Had to save this thread until it came out, but yeah, here's the new Raptor, if you haven't checked it out already.

how about you short stroke one of these EvilBellyLint, and see what you get.

^^^ I think i'm sold on a pair of the new velociraptors. Time to sell off my 2x 74gb drives.

looks like wd has hit a grand slam for the enthusiast with this one! (new raptor)
granted it is an old topic with differing opinions to this day -
but other then assigning 2mb for a dump file for error purposes if you desire- turning off prefetch - forcing ram to system cache -
how would it then effect performance? (unless using Photoshop or something similar)
Results from a poor sap (me) who can't buy 4 WD6400AAKS or a Raptor (single 640GB short-stroked):
I highlighted the 64KB row because that is the standard size used by HD Tune so it should be closely comparable. 50GB partition,
