I got similar problem with my QX9650 on p5e3 premium. Core 4 always get error in prime95 with GTL set on Auto in BIOS. Changed GTL on 0-2 to 0.600, 1-3 to 0.630 solve the problem. Now my qx9650 is stable at same speed/same vcore as on my p5e3 deluxe.
You may try 0.60 on 0-2, 0.63 on 1-3.![]()

Hi,
I have had my P5E3 Premium since it was released and have a QX9650 and Corsair DDR3 1800Mhz memory.
I have noticed that when I first boot my system from cold I receive the following message,
"CPU core to bus ratio or VID configuration has failed"
This the leads me to enter the BIOS by pressing F1 due to a boot failure. From this point I just exit the BIOS and the system runs absolutely fine again. I can restart it no roblem either. But, if I switch off completely I get the same error message.
I am running 450FSB x 7 with DDR3 running at 7-7-7-20 2.0v
All other voltage settings are at default.
Does anyone know what is causing this? I just tried default settings for cpu, multiplier and memory running at 1333Mhz and it still happens.
Thanks for any help.

also got this core failure in prime... allways core 2 ..
and MAN this board is strange in behavior...its not logic at all.
it DONT like to get just a tad to much voltage, and strap 333 and 400 DONT work in 480FSB wich it REALLY would, nooo there the 266 strap works... and i cant get it stable at 480, mem 1920.. this is a freakshow board..so strange..
aaaahhhh..... cant for the world not get it to work ok.... maybe this bios are bad or something heh.. gaaah.. alllways this problems lately
maybe the DFI board will be launched soon ?![]()

I'm sure next BIOS will be much better.
Seems like 266 strap has looser NB timings than 333/400 strap. Just compare memory bandwidth at same cpu speed @ different NB strap, you will notice 266 strap give lower bandwidth, higher latency than 333 strap. That's why 333 and 400 strap don't work at 480fsb, while 266 strap works fine.

Well I've done a little tweaking on a P5E3 Premium, replacing a Maximus Extreme. Differences I've noticed so far:
Clock for clock, X48 seems to require less chipset voltage. Quadcore FSB over 450 took 1.6 nb volts on the maximus, only 1.44 on the P5E3
P5E3 seems less touchy with memory at the higher speeds. I've been able to dial in spec'd settings on cellshocks at 1600 - 1700 on different staps/dividers, no problems so far. On the Maximus, running ram at higher speeds was hit or miss in my experience.
Max OCCT-stable fsb on a q6600 I've been using is 475 (could be the cpu's wall, max for this one was the same on a DFI P35). No post at 500.
Will be testing with a q9450 in a couple of days. Hopefully 45nm, more mature bios will bring us 500 fsb at 24/7 usable settings. (A guy's gotta have a dream, right?)
Those 500/2000 results FCG and Tony posted for the Striker II Extreme are awfully sweet. I hope Intel isn't going to let Nvidia win this round of the motherboard wars!

Yeah, it requires so much less vMCH, im on 1.33 for 450fsb, and 1.37 for 480, so strangeif i give it 1.50 or so it wont boot, but runs fine with 1.30+
and the VTT are also very sensetive, just little to much it wont boot, also noticed low GTL wont post the board either, so high GTL are the way.
Think to much vMCH were my problem with the straps, getting it a little better now.
Only problem are that my cpu needs more vcore with this board, Or it is degrading maybe? adjusting the GTL wont help a bit for me, the system runs fine with 1.45 2h+ with max. Extreme before, now it needs 1.48-1.50. dunno if its the cpu or the board, but it is a fact.
i can keep it at PL6 and twister at strongest at 480 atleast... hell of a bandwith
well well, how are the vcore for the rest of you with penryn? more less or the same? i dont want my cpu to be degrading![]()

Yes that's a good point too, the board seems quite sensitive to overvolting.
I'll be trying q9450 hopefully today.Anyone else testing yorkfields, please post the GTL settings that you are using as the P5E3 Premium has more options than Maximus/P5K. Thanks!

I get this too,. I got this on a Maximus Formula with the 1xxx bioses only. I got this with the latest bios on a P5K dlx also. I've seen this now with bios 204 on the p5E3Prem. Asus is doing something differently in the most recet round of bioses across the board and I'm not sure what. Some combinations of settings that are otherwise stable once in windows. It's a pain in the butt really. I don't know what the heck that means either, but obviosuly some bios setting it don't like. I'm getting a bit weary of it though and this P5E3 Prem is not all it is cracked up to be,. I'm tempted to try a 790i quite frankly.

I'm not ready to call it yet but I have to say, based on the early reports I'm seeing around here, 790i is looking pretty good. I've never been an nvidia chipset fan but I may have to try the dark side this time.
BTW I've been getting that startup failure message on a couple of different Asus boards too, though not on the P5E3 Premium so far.

Actually cancel that dumb statement I posted about maybe I should try the 790i. It's looking real messy over there based on this thread: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=290927 ouch!! Lots and lots of unacceptable issues at the moment and even some reports of sata issues rearing their ugly heads again. arghhhghh!!!
Anyone aware of a newer bios in the works for the p5E3 Premium? (newer than 204?)

I cant OCCT for more than 2 mins falls over whereas this same chip lesser cooling was OCCT for 1/2hr or more ok on Maximus Formula SE. Prime it falls over with rounding errors on core 4.
I will try at stock and see if it fairs better there im at 450x8 1800 most stable.
I have tried 0-3/1-2 but dont understand what im doing in this area. Also without performance loadline it won't boot. I suppose I'll have to move away from auto and start inputing volts, but I don't think thats the overall solution but it would start to help.
Anyone else input vcore for Q6600 i have tried upto 1.5 but I think NB needs to increase also. Its a pity we cant monitor what the defaults are like we could on Maximus Formala bios, because you could set and switch page and see the various voltage it set by default. There isnt enough in windows to monitor SB and NB voltages.

I was having some trouble with OCCT but switching the memory command rate to 2T seemed to solve that. I'm now stable with q6600 at 8x475 w/ vcore at 1.4625, PLL at 1.5, VTT at only 1.3, MCH at 1.44, CPU GTLs bumped up from default 63x/67x to 67x/70x respectively (no idea what I'm doing with those settings, just trial and error).

this board seems more sensitive to some adjustments ...
maybe a new bios will solve this

hey ir1z,
first of all, you should be posting here:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...179580&page=37
second, your northbridge voltage looks like its quite a bit too low for the overclock you want. bump it to at least 1.55
third, you WILL need to boost that vcore voltage. try 1.4 and work down from there.
fourth, when over clocking your balistix, you'll need more then 2.22 volts, esp if your using a fsb of 450+, and you want to maintain a 520+mhz ddr speed.
i was in the same position as you a week ago with the balistix. their rated at a measly 2.1 volts, so much over that your risking cutting you memory lifetime in half. id go with some 8500's.
finally,
if you can post your bios settings from the extreme tweaker page, it would help us all out alot more. follow the template, from here (the 1st post): http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=168119

Anyone know when is the final version of bios for Rampage Formula is out? On asus homepage there is still only the 'latest' beta dated 26 dec 07.
It is strange that the bios is not released since x48 is officially out already and from what it seems the beta bios was pretty solid already (reviews).

yeah havent tried CR2 for the mem though, maybe it cant handle it so well, its not that big a loss against CR1, will try later.
EDIT: Now my Win crashed AGAIN! , tried some stuff, and changed from 333 to 266, tried to enter the OS, but a file is corrupted, and it doesnt say wich one either........ ARGH! dont like this board, very unstable where others are stable. Hmm. what to doo. will reinstall again.
what else am i gonna do?
its SO strange really... the systems is quite fine at 1.45 , but ortho/prime/occt crashes instantly.
and if i up the vcore 1.46/47/48/49 , still crashes, this is insane, even if it has degraded? hopefully not, it wont be like more than 0.05 thats pretty much, it dont degrade over a second, or switch to another board...it must be this unstable, sensetive cracked up board...arrghh.. loosing my patiens..
EDIT again: Finelly got some settings, did put it on OCCT last night, and checked in the morning, it had crashed at 2h 30 mins, thats fair enough when people are saying that the new occt 2 are a heavier test program, they said that the custom 2hr test are like 13hr Orthos, so im satisfied, it landed on 1.48 at 4,3ghz finelly. even though it was stablke at 1.45 on Extreme. But the values in bios maybe can vary, so this 1.45 on maximum maybe were 1.48, they are not THAT accurate. now my goal is 480+ stabilty with lowerd mnulti to 9 instead, i want the bandwith that comes with 1900+ CL7 memalmost 13gb i get. but DAM i say it again, the board are REALLY senst. with the volts, it must be so prescise.
how is it goin for you guys?
BTW , these 2 bioses are backwards flashable, just so you know, i got back from 204 and it didnt complain
regards.
