Just Curious, but why would you want more than 1.75v on the Northbridge!?

Does anyone know why the Asus Taiwan ftp is down? ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5E/

New files always show up there first.

    US ftp works:

    ftp://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5E/

    Hey.

Could somebody post the best possible P5E BIOS settings for the QX9650 and the RAM in my sig? I can't seem to get the RAM up to 1000mhz (it's only stable running a 1:1 ratio with the FSB at 400)

    I currently have only:
-Raised the FSB to 400 (1600 effective)
-Increased DRAM voltage to 2.1 volts
    -Increased VCore to 1.365 volts
-Set RAM timings to 5,5,5,15 (2T)

There's a lot of other settings on the BIOS, and I suspect that I need to change some of these (PIL voltage, termination voltage, refresh cycle time, etc)

What kind Ram do you have (model, speed, timings). Your Ram may simply not be capable of 1000 Mhz! 2GB modules are especially troublesome.

Northbridge voltage increases often help Ram clock faster.

You could also increase you timings (to say 6-5-5-15). But remember, memory running at 4-4-4-12 at 800 Mhz. is just as fast as memory running at 5-5-5-15 at 1066 Mhz.

Yeah, I've upped the northbridge voltage to 1.5 volts.

the RAM in question is the G.Skill 4Gb PQ DDRII PC8000 (2X2GB) kit. Stock speed should be 1000Mhz, and the stock timings are 5-5-5-15.

Well, all I can say is that I had problems with 2x2GB modules.

    I'm currently running 4 x 1GB G.Skill's at 4-4-4-12 @ 890 Mhz. and I'm happy.

For me the best bios to date is..........

    .......601.......

I am running an e8400 chip

I have not tried 607 as yet.... 602 and 05 would not let me clock any where near where the 601 does..........

There is no best bios. Everyone has their favorite depending on their CPU, Ram and clocking. I like the latest non-beta bios: 0605.

    BIOS 607.........

Well it works good enough but, it loosens up your memory. So I won't use it.

However for you guys that are running Quad cores at say around 400 fsb you may find that you can use 1T settings. So even tho it loosens memory it may still yield for some better performance.

Darnezz your running at 510fsb is a good thing but when you have to use the 8x multi then it is negated by the low mhz. Try running the 8.5 for a while
Then try the 9 you should be able to get to 500 on both.
I ran the 607 last night for a couple hours before I tossed it.
Loose memory does not hurt pi times but it kills 3D cpu scores.
My aquamark cpu score fell about 600 points at a given clock with this bios.

It is stable enough so some of you should definately give it a try. As it may work better with your memory.

This is as high as it would go for me last night. Like I say I only had a couple hours to mess with it.

So come on guys do some experimenting.....

guys just bought a maximus had have a P5k-E wifi board now how similar are these boards to overclock a E3110 and can you guys help with some bios setting I might try. My P5k-e has this chip at 4.05ghz at 1.296v but has a reset issue after that. The chip primes all they way to 4.2ghz. I was hoping the maximus might be slighty more stable.

    Hi Guys,
Great thread here.... I'm torn between P5E or the Maximus Formula.
The Formula costs me 10 pounds \ 20 Euros more, so price isn't the issue.
I want the most stable board, I'm not an overclocker to be honest although I might want to overclock the board a little.
Also will the below components be ok or please recommend anything I should change:-
    Antec Solo or P182
    Corsair 520 PSU
    G.Skill 6400 HZ
    Intel Core 2 Duo 8500
    Thermalright XP-90 or XP-120

    Thanks, Danny.
