I'm really unpatient to find the answer to make the final decision of finalizing my build after 3 and 1/2 years

Based on my experience with prior Asus and DFI boards (P35, X38), a lot comes down to personal preference. A lot of folks around here love DFI; for others, DFI can be a frustrating experience.

DFI usually has the most options for tweaking. If you are willing to invest a lot of time setting up the board, you can usually squeeze out a few more mhz of performance on the DFI board than on any other brand. At the same time, it can take a lot longer and potentially be frustrating reaching stability at "normal" overclocks. With Asus I find I can set up the board pretty quickly and get a better max overclock than any other brand with the exception of a heavily tweaked DFI board.

One key advantage of DFI in the past has been the ability to fine tune GTL reference voltages, which are key for maximum quad core overclocking success (kentsfield or yorkfield either one). Asus has been behind the curve on that option, but from what I understand the P5E3 Premium has much better bios options for GTL tuning. That should help narrow the gap in terms of maximum achievable performance.

I have found both brands to be sub-par in terms of customer service so that's not really a deciding factor. I do think Asus is a little better about continuing to support older boards with bios updates, and is less likely to abandon an unpopular model than DFI (spoken as a former owner of DFI's CFX3200).

PS: If you've really been waiting 3 1/2 years to finalize your build, might as well wait another year for Nehalem!

Infa that what I asked you a few threads back, but you didnt reply lol I was going to change to new bios. I have read that because of the delay the bios is much more mature. I dont want to be stuck not able to flash back to that bios we have now.

So i'm playing chicken and waiting to see how you get on.

the board are really strange with the volts..

it DONT like to be overvolted, it needs more or less exact voltage to what the speed are..

My goal are to bench 3dmark with 4,6, and i KNOW it can just need to find a setting for it , but i have to reinstall windows today, couse it got corrupted hehe.

Flashed to 204 before i went to sleep, and tested a little bit, think its better actually, now it boots up and starting win installation at 4750, but it hangs at harddrive detection... what are usually wrong when it cant read the HD?
dont know what options that effects HD reading.

Gotta try more of this tonight , Anyone know about the CPU GTL means with 0-2 1-3 ? core 0-2 or 0-3? cant be, couse the available voltage are diffrent for each..

i DO like the Phase pull in though you can have PL8 on the system internal settings, and still keep MEM PL at 7

Im eager to try more just that it did 545 FSB after 10 mins are great

Tell me how it is goin for you guys.

    regards.

Hi Infa just updated bios slight everest read speed increase. I dont quite understand the Phase pull in i'm at PL7 cant go any lower. Do you have the Cellshock's as well?

    A pic of my rig setup with Asus P5E3, running 24/7 3.75Ghz Q6600 with 10 HD drives 7x36GB 15KII 2x73GB 15KII 1 Sata Raptor installed have 2 but anyways. 2 scsi Perc/Lsi 320-e 8800GTX watercooled with 1 x120 rad XPSC with 5 x Noctua NF-P12. Temp are really cool using 1.45 vcore.

Oh Daciper turn on PM's if you want a reply ;-) good luck
Hi I dont think it would be your bios revision thats stopping you posting. I am sure that E8400 would be supported. All you need do is install and away you go.

When a system doesnt't post its usual ram or video thats stopping it or unseated cpu. What ram do you have try 1 stick at a time, I am on 204 i think but bios I dont think is your problem as these boards designed around that sort of processor.

What video card are you running? try it in a different PCI-e Slot also. I cant think of much else really. Tell me
how you get on. Also check power leads to the video card whichever you have installed.

Got mine today and it came with BIOS 0151. Diagnostic software reports it's just a Beachwood X38...is it accurate or not? I also need to flash it to the latest BIOS. Any links to the latest one other Asus' site? Somehow I can't go to the their FTP site anymore, it's asking for a username whereas it never before.

Im using Cellshocks.. as in sig thats why we got the signature right?

im running 1.94 on them now, PL 6, and clock skew, stronger

now its only the cpu left

the sıstem are stable like this, but in orthos core 2 breaks before the first second, but only that!
still im fiddelng around with this GTL, but dont know WHAT core and to keep it low or high.

    regards.

EDIT: now tried just for fun... did set 0-2 on 0.053x
and left 1-3 on auto, the system did not boot up :S

then put 0-2 on auto and 1-3 on 0.053x and now im typing...so they actually DO something atleast

    okay keep trying stuff...

either my cpu have degraded, or the mobo aint the same as other, but i need 0.02v more to get it stable. ah well... its not the end of the world, the mobo performs a lot better overall anyway.. and i HATE fiddeling with GTL if i dont know WHY, and how to affect them in the system, i have to learn how, when to keep it low or high..

    regards
