I want to see FRAPS results @ 1920x1600 with high settings + AA...

I was misled with the X2 reviews that used time-demos because RL gaming with the X2 isn't that good, it is pretty much like the G80 GTX, if not worse (which would be ok if it wasn't for the fact the gtx is 18 months old).

Seeing this makes me kick myself and curse the day on November 2006 when I decided to wait on the r600 and not buy the g80 gtx. Once the r600 arrived and flopped I've been waiting for the 'next big card' ever since.

Still waiting, still sick of the mediocre gpu's available.

Interesting observation of the GX2 from the TPU review

Please note that the core clock of both GPUs is dependent on the PCI-Express clock signal, just like on the GeForce 9600 GT. Please read our article here for additional details.

Are there any reviews of a single 9800GX2 vs. a pair of 3870X2's in Crossfire?

The only merit to this product in my opinion, is if it beats a pair of 3870X2's on an Intel Motherboard.

If I consider switching over to an Intel Mobo, I'd like to know the best graphics performance I can get.

Well, at least my 8800 GTX has provided great bang for the buck, especially since I got it when they were first available. This is kinda disappointing.

While the GX2 can beat it, that's only in games that support or scale well with SLI. Many of the games I play do not, so it would actually be a step down for me.

If you've got a gtx or ultra, there's no real reason to upgrade yet.

    Same goes for g92 cards.

MAYBE worth it for a g80 GTS user, as long as you can sell your old card. The upgrade from 320 to 512 gts was very noticeable for me.

In Heroes - the Difference between the 8800GTS anfd the 9800GTX is almost 10 FPS -shouldn't be that kind of difference and this is with buggy drivrs !!

Since no one else has posted it here:

    *dead link*

I just picked up a G92 8800GTS considering how cheap they can be had now. The $100 premium for the number 9 in the front and an X in the back isn't worth it, imo (well, that and faster memory). Hopefully the cores on the GTX cards scale that high, but I'll believe it when I see it on every card and not just a select pre-production model.

*edit: Crap, they removed it from the site. It was up, boooo. I'll upload it and link to it in a sec...*

Im thinking of hitting the buy button on a 512 GTS, to replace my 640. I only game at 1680x1050 or 1440x900 normally. I have a feeliing, well in fact it's obvious that nvidia will gimp 8 series drivers to force us to upgrade to 9 series..then riot in the streets.

There hasnt been a WHGL in months for 8 series, there will be maybe one last final driver or possibly two more..then they will be focused on 9 series..nothing new here they have done this for years..and it's getting old.

what to do what to do?

I only paid 289 early last year for my 640mb due to a wrong card in a 320mb box:X, so selling it off for a 100 bucks wont kill me, and the paulty 239 for a 512mb gts isnt bad

They can be had for less (of course, MIR requried). This is on it's way here now:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143119

For $230 shipped all said and done after the rebate, that's hard to pass up. I'm still on a 7800GTX, so the upgrade for me was a no brainer. If the GTS was still like $275 with no rebate I'd wait and get the GTX, but when the GTX is going to be $300 to $350, it's just not worth it for the minor differences in core/shader clocks and somewhat notable bump in the memory. If the GTX manages to kick total ass somehow and surprise the out of us all, I can sell the GTS for $200 easily and just buy a GTX, but I doubt that'll happen.

1.5 yrs later we get the 8900GTX. SLI better bust up in full force if they're gonna be tossing duallies for the high end.
