I asked for the OCP mod pictures, which do exist, and have previously been posted by Shamino but then later removed.

1.6 seems ok on air with 100% fan or remove the cover and use a 120mm fan on the sinks. didn't really see any better clocks over 1.54 or so. my card seems great to 963 and sort of tops out. even 1.64 won't get me 991 stable.

Don't know of this is the right topic to ask it, but it isn 't worth it to open a new topic. But does someone has the datasheet of the VT1165MF for me? Can't find it on the internet. It's for the HD2900GT ref. design, the Vmods aren't known atm.
    Thanks

hmm...does verybody mean both cores when you write your result?? I have a 52mhz GPU speed difference on the 2 cores 932/1100 & 880/1100 on stock air, without mod...sucks

    Gonna test with mods now.

It is because the last core gets the heated air from the first core and thats wy the first heatsink is made of alu and the last one is made of copper..

nope..thats not it for sure..i just did testing. And i also have waterblocks on now And please...if some people can confirm using a DMM too.

    here goes.

When finnish booting to windows you, as you all know, will see idle voltage.

Then when opening a 3d app, the voltage will go to around 1.4v right?

Now try to connect your DMM, and messure what happens to voltage when setting BN:3 clocks AND running a 3d app (you will have to run a 3d app to see the difference in voltage) with AMD GPU tool.

INFO: Only BN:3 does this: BN: 4 is ok.

It actely falls back by 0.5v. meaning that its running at 1.4v ,as it should, on BN:4 but only running at 1.35v on BN: 3

I then set the VR to give 1.4v to BN: 3 also (wich is actely 1.45v after reboot, so be carefull) and both GPU“s now run about the same mhz with same voltage

Please..if somebody using AMD TOOL and have a DMM by hand. it would be nice to hear if you experience the same.

Its not a big problem. course you can just adjust voltage after reboot (when it idles) BEFORE opening a 3dapp.

But its ofcourse a problem for people without vmod on the card.

For those seeking a 3870x2 with power section out improved, the Asus EH3870x2 provide more power to Gpu about 20% more power Vs. the reference pcb.

This photo is the pcb reference AMD above and Asus below.

To identify this model has two fans and four outputs dvi.......

It is the same look at the power section for the second gpu on the reference pcb!

20% claim is interesting, wheres your evidence?
EIther way, the Asus layout is much better for extreme cooling

Who all is using this (Shams) volt mod? Does it really buy you any more of a clock (On Mem or GPU)? I understand that there is other protection involved and that this is just a small portion of the problem?

Is Shams mod still (essentially) the best/only X2 mod out at this point? Has anyone fried their card because of too much juice?? Pt1t??? Was it something you did - How much juice did you put to the cores/mem and did you have your fan @ max???

I'm going to water cool both of my X2s and I would like the Vmod them once that is done. Can anyone suggest Max volts for GPU1, GPU2 and Mem under water? I'm going to try and H20 the MEMs too.

    Thanks!

Thanks for answering - I'd like to ask a couple of simple questions if you don't mind...

    OVP/OCP = Overvolt Protection/Overcurrent Protection??

When you say "nor any OVP/OCP" - you mean you disabled it? If so, could you email me the info on that mod? I'm not looking to compete with anyone, I'd just like to make use of the dual water blocks I'm using and get my clock speeds up abit.

Also, what OS and what OC tools are you using to clock these up? I find that with 4 GPUs I have to keep setting the clock speeds every time I reboot. I don't trust RivaTuner 3.8 (Newest revision - I think it's 3.8) - It doesn't work properly w/ 4 GPUs in my opinion. It lists 8 devices to overclock (In XP). I haven't started with Vista yet. But anyway, what tools do you use to clock the cores and how do you save you clocks? I find the AMD/ATI Overclocking Utility works best but I can't save the clocks with that (At least I can't see how to...??)

Is there any other way to crank the fan speeds up other than using RivaTuner? Right now I just use Rivatuner (The newest revision) to crank up the fan speeds and I use the AMD/ATI OC Utility to generate the Core/Mem clocks.

Thanks so much in advance for helping out!

you have to use Vista to use 3 or more gpu's. xp does not support it. that is why you are having issues.

    Huh?

XP Supports 4 cores just fine. I'm not having issues with the Core Clocking or CrossfireX - My issues are with the utilities.

I've got 20K in 3DMark06 and there's no way with an E8400 that I'm getting that score w/ 1 card.

    It works.
