I don't understand why NVIDIA is limiting cards to 512MB if some games will use as many 750MB.
keep in mind that a video card doesn't just fall to pieces when you're using more VRAM than it has. it will begin to swap with your system RAM, which is slower but still works. i think the general rule of thumb is that framerate won't really plummet on a 512 MB video card until you start using 600 MB or more. beyond that point, your framerate will begin to drop dramatically. however, it's still possible that having each video card render every other frame will still keep you rendering faster than a single GTX. if you have a GX2 and each GPU is only rendering 30 fps, you're still getting a total of 60 fps assuming you're running in AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) mode.

I am building a new system with a single 9800GX2 and was going to use the Asus P5E3 Premium (X48), but I wonder if this card is compatible??
Can any previous 7950GX2 users chime in? Did it work well/at all on Intel boards?
I am still waiting for the final word on the GX2 and intel mobo's...
I think I am still going to grab a GX2 for my Maximus SE...

"Pconline.com just released an review of NVIDIA GeForce 9800GX2(but to me, it is only a quick bench).

There is two things you should keep in mind:

    1. They have to enable SLI via Forceware control panel manually to utilize two G92 cores.

    2. The card didn’t work on X48 mainboard. Yes they can use it on the board but if 3D application starts users will only see a crash notice.

We don’t know both issues are the Driver bugs or hardware problems".

wow. what a piece of crap. i'd be shocked if that wasn't just a driver error that will get fixed ASAP. Nvidia is shooting themselves in the foot if this thing only works on Nvidia chipsets.

    Exclamation

confirmed. I just upgraded from a GA p35-ds3p board, to a rampage formula x48

and now my 9800gx2 won't work. I get a beep code error stating, it's VGA.

I raged at XFX about this since there was no warnings on the box or anything about x48.

Either the card actually died, or it doesn't work on x48..i've heard of it working on some x48 boards, but not my rampage!!!

I doubt it's the Rampage board... it's just a cherry picked X38. I even run the rampage bios on my Maximus Formula and have no issues with my GX2.

dam striaght....8800gtx smokes it in hi res gaming, its just a better card in my opion period.i mean if the 9800gtx was something amazing it would have been $600,not $340...

read this poll,%95 of ppl here agree the 8800gtx is a better card.
