Hi guys
Been away for a while doing some workshops in our Profinet Tour.
Anyway, more of the same going on, right?
xMrBunglex, nice clean tiddy rig you got there, congrats.
I'm cleaning up mine as it goes, time is not much.
Don at Antec sent me a spare cable but it's the same size, soldering required. For what he says, next versions of the case might have longer cables, he passed the info on to engineering. Nice people there.
I see you could run the 8pin EPS12V cable through the back of the mobo, I don't think my cable is that long though, on my SeaSonic.
Welcome Rush, join us to tame this beast mobo.

It seems that the same BIOS is used for either DX38BT and DX48BT2 which makes it look that they are indeed the same board, only best binned will become X48.
Like i said before, we'll all have X48 boards soon, I hope. If they use the same BIOS for both we'll have access to all features of DX48BT2.
BIOS 1507 is required for both boards. This means DX48BT2 is ready.

Not yet, I'm thinking of doing it today. Let you know.
IDCC will only run on 1507 anyway. When will it leave the beta status and become final? Intel engineers are working on it but it seems it's never ready for a final version.

i've had a ghost in my machine ever since i got this motherboard. i'm running at a modest 400 FSB until i get things straightened out. this is rather frustrating because my old Asus P5W DH Deluxe could do 400 FSB just as easily as the Bone Trail can, and my system never crashed. i've even been eyeing the Asus P5E3 Deluxe, which isn't even in my budget anymore.
i'm 12 hours Orthos stable. i've run Memtest several times without any errors. i don't know what is causing my crashes. i used Everest to disable C1E and will try to go a week without crashing. if the machine runs stable with C1E off, i'm gonna start camping outside Intel's headquarters with a megaphone until they add the ability to disable it through BIOS. if i continue to crash, i'll probably just bite the bullet and go back to Asus, even though i really don't have the money to do that right now. i don't know what else to do.

Hello Everybody.
I am having a problem with the Onboard Audio on this Motherboard. I have a 5.1 surround sound speaker system, but for some reason I can only get sound out from the center speaker. When I first installed the IDT drivers it installed a Dolby Program that allowed me to test the speakers. They all worked in the program but Windows would not play any sound. Weird huh?
So I tried downloading new drivers from intels website. The new drivers got rid of the old Dolby program but I still can't get sound out of any of the other four speakers. Only the center one works.
I have gone into the Control Panel and made certain that the advanced Audio setting is set to 5.1 surround sound. Audio properties shows two options for Sound out IDT Audio 1 and IDT Audio 2. Audio 1 allows me to hear from the Center Speaker only, Audio 2 doesn't work at all.
Any help or suggestions would be immensely appreciated. I will be checking these forums often.
Thank you all in Advance,
-- Joseph Black
hi, Joseph, and welcome to the thread. i don't think i ever installed the Dolby program on mine, but i have the IDT Control Panel. you should be able to access that by clicking the music note icon down by your clock. it looks like this:
you should be able to control your speaker settings from there. i'm not running surround sound on my rig anymore, so i haven't personally tried it though.
as far as my crashes are concerned, i've been running for two days with C1E disabled and everything is running beautifully. i think that might have been what was causing my crashes. i'll keep everyone updated. if i go a week without a reboot or crash, i'll go back up to 450 FSB and start testing there again. i'm starting to think we just need a BIOS update to disable C1E and i'll be a real happy camper.

Joseph, i found what you're looking for. go down to the Dolby portion of your IDT Control Panel and check the button that says "Enable Speaker Virtualization Support." that is the feature that upsamples stereo sound to emulate 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. on Creative sound cards it's called CMSS 3D. Dolby just has a different name for it, but they're both designed to make two channel sound come out of all your speakers.

Psu?
Bios 1513
New Fixes/Features:
Updated MRC X38 v1.40 / X48 v1.20.
Updated CPU VRef default values in automatic mode.
Updated PCIe card detection in PCIe Slot 1 and 2.
Fixed issue where optical drive caused hang during POST.
Intel appears to have there own agendia.I do not think in the near future they will offer a truly overclockable motherboard with features we demand.Time to move on.Was "intresting" playing with this odd ball board though.
my power supply is fine. in fact, everything is fine when it's hooked up to one of my Asus boards. i decided to reformat/reinstall tonight to see if my recent problems were software related. i'm on a fresh install of Windows now and thinking happy thoughts.
EDIT: i finally got my audio driver installed. i'm not sure why it didn't want to install this time, but whatever. it's fixed now. it's funny that i actually resisted using my SoundBlaster because i like the onboard audio more.

It appears Intel is working to resolve issues for OEM's using this board, not so much to assist OC enthusiasts. The bottom line is, Intel rushed this one to market, and if you leave everything at default, you get a somewhat stable system. I am pretty happy with the performance of my system, but the board has little to do with it. I tried two other Asus boards and those had worse issues than this one. The problem is going to be trying to dump this board used with the issues at hand.

Can some of you folks do the following?
From a command prompt or the run command line type regedit
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\Infinst
In the right pane, the last entry should read from left to right Version REG_SZ then a number.
Please post that number here in the forum
Also indicate whether your system is stable or not.
================================================== ==
I've just run across something strange with the Intel Chipset INFs. And while this may or may not explain some people's system instability, it is ceertainly worth looking into. I'm curious if there is a common trend.
Here's what's odd:
The CD that comes with the Bonetrail boards gives you INF version 8.4.0.1016
The driver download page at Intel for the Bonetrail recommends 8.3.1.1010
Going through the main Intel download area, the latest INFs posted are 8.3.1.1009
At first glance the logical explanation would be Intel updated the Bonetrail page more recently, and updated the CDROMs that ship even more recently than that. Unfortunately, digging deeper shows that may not be the case.
Here comes the contradictions:
8.4.0.1016 is dated 8/29/07
8.3.1.1010 is dated 10/2/07
8.3.1.1009 is dated 9/24/07
Maybe 8.4.0.1016 is the latest in the series but there is a typo or delayed release? Nope.
If you read the release notes 8.4.0.xxxx has a history of being released and developed concurrently with 8.3.1.xxxx. Specifically, each group has a history dating back into early 2007! Two sets of INFs at the same time - both offered to Bonetrail customers, hmmm.
It gets stranger still:
If you compare the 'fix notes' the most up to date version with the latest and most fixes is 8.3.1.1010. 8.3.1.1010 includes a fix for the ICH9 IDE controller. It states previous versions were erroneously loading both Intel and Microsoft IDE drivers and that this is fixed in 8.3.1.1010. There is no mention of this in the higher version number 8.4.0.1016.
Now, make what you will out of all that strangeness.
Regardless, some people out there loaded the INFs from the disk that came with the board (8.4.0.1016.)
Some people loaded the INFs from the Bonetrail page at Intel (8.3.1.1010.)
And some people may have laoded the INFs posted on the main Intel download area (8.3.1.1009.)
It is likely we are all using different versions, and with something as significant as chipset drivers, and considering the possibly important fix in 8.3.1.1010; it is quite possible this difference in our chipset drivers may explain different peoples varied expereinces with system stability.
So, I'm hoping to shed some light on this. And if enough people post what INF version they have installed maybe a trend will become clear.
Currently I am using 8.4.0.1016 with some instability. (I'm gonna try a reinstall over the weekend with 8.3.1.1010.)
(edited for additional info.)
