    Team Milestone Thread

This replaces the "Easynews goes down" thread. We proved last October we can beat Easynews. Now it's time to focus our energies on other goals such as boosting daily production above five million. We are almost there. We are also on course to surpass two billion points later this year. Keep up the good work.

So where have we been and where are we now.

    A year ago - 1,543,883
    Today - 4,975,259

As you can see we have made a lot of progress, thanks to all of you who have contributed to the cause. We will surpass 1.5 billion points in about two weeks. Only two other teams (Easynews and Team 2ch) have reached that milestone and both have a lot more members than we do.

Every little bit helps. In order for the team to be successful we need both big and small contributions. No one is going to match Victor's production. But Victor can't carry the team by himself. And he doesn't. Earlier tonight, I went down the list of all the team members who've contributed a million points or more. The list is longer than you think.

It's always hard in the beginning. The first few weeks I crunched for the team, I was averaging less than 5,000 points/day. Then I added a second machine, then a third. And then I got my first million. Seemed like it took forever. Now I'm past 25 million. I'm not saying this to brag. What I learned is that you just have to keep at it.

I know for a fact that some large corporations are amazed that our relatively small group of crunchers can put out the production numbers that we do on a daily basis. If you look at the teams we've passed, they include big companies and universities.

And it's not just about the points. A lot of people got into this because they know someone who was stricken with or even died from a serious illness. There are many reasons to crunch. But one thing I do know. This is the best team on the planet.

I feel bad, my Crunching has been down for past couple days/week. Got new hardware, and been redoing my power to my room.... I had them do new lines because I think I was pushing it.

I liked the original title better. Can't you change it back to 'Easynews goes down: part 2'?

Maybe when we can put them down and keep em down, instead of trailing a few hundredK each day. I've done what I can.. got 2 quads ramping up this week... one of my own.. and one for a friend, whom I convinced to go quad instead of a 2g c2d dell.. Got him a MUCH better system, and only about 200 bucks more... (mostly from the extra shiny case and PS he picked out) He hadn't upgraded in 7 years... so I had some explaining to do. But, he's burning in at 3.4 right now.. and going to lap his true and cpu in the next few weeks.

I really am a fan off all of you guys! May our improvement from last year be an inspiration towards next record breaking. Everybody, who has contributed, deserves restecpa! So, congrats to y'all!!!

Btw, I am picking up a fresh Q6600 today and building a crunch machine. I hope I can soon call it all a farm (at least by the number of cores )
Sometimes a good slap in the face is all you need

    Bios my arss.....
I can fix this problem with a hardware mod....

Congrat on the new addition to your stable!!! And yes, you can call it a farm.. You'll probably notice the strong desire to keep growing the farm too... Dr SiG runs a clinic for all of us crunchaholics.....It doesn't seem to stop us from acquiring new hardware, just not feel so guilty when we do...

As was said above, it's not the amount that individuals contribute that matters here. It is the dedication and persistence that this team shows that makes the difference. We all help each other achieve the best production our equipment can produce, at all levels.

    Regards,
    Bob

Here's the daily output since the beginning. It doesn't seem to have increased that much lately. But very nice compared to last year in March!
Sorry if the chart is the 'wrong' way, excel didn't want to sort the dates correctly when I tried it.

This will give you a better idea of the team's progress.

The graph below shows the team's RAC (recent average credit). These are BOINC points. We've been in a holding pattern since November. I'm waiting for the next break-out.

I would bet that more then a few of us (myself included) are saving up for some nice dual socket nehalem goodness.

That oughta give us a nice jump in that graph there.

I hate to point this out, but we have been adding new members, but we've also lost some big producers. I don't really understand why, but hopefully we'll have some net gains soon. I'm looking at another quad myself. The qx9775's aren't worth the money - and I thought the qx9650 was overpriced when it came out. Damn, nearly $2k for a chip and over $4k for a dual cpu system.

Bob, how much space do you have left?

About a rack and 1/3. I'm trying not to fill the 1/3 with current stuff, but I don't seem to be winning that battle. I suspect when midline penryn comes out, that rack will magically fill up.

I refuse to buy the rack for the third rack space until nehalem....That will stopp me from filling it...

As stated EVERY ONE here is important from the one work unit per day member to our Hamster Master DDTUNG. He sets a very high bar and his dedication is Legendary.

So crank up those CPUs and lets work towards six million per day. It will be a steady increase in daily production if we all try to squeeze just a little more out of our hardware, bring on new systems when able, and show the world what XSDC is all about.

Help is own it's way, from help over at the WCG forums I now have my problems fixed. I have three identical quad rigs, same MB, VCs, CPU etc. that had Ubuntu 7.10 installed exactly the same with same machine names. That was the problem since they do not use mac address to identify machines.

This team is great, and has grown nicely. sierra_bound, DDTUNG and Movieman and a few others have done everything to convince people to crunch and giving support. Without them this team wouldn't be as strong as we are now.

Look at the number of results returned.

Can someone explain to me why we had less returning results while we produced the same amount of points?
