Nothing else, not a single cap, inductor or MOSFET I could find different. Seems like they've just made it cheaper to lower its price a tad and still rake profits.

X64: Guess what happened? I tried 2.626GHz again, no error. So then I tried my new daily setting of 2.639GHz, error. I tried it 8 times in a row, hang at the same place. So then I put it higher to 2.652GHz and... it booted and worked fine. 3 times in a row.

I've never had 1.248V 2.652GHz this stable on even XP yet. However the bugs in that OS still remain. Can't even browse or install packages at stock. Can't install VGA driver, xorg.conf is blank, all settings keep reverting, and I've manually deleted everything through command line incl. xgl, compiz and reinstalled, no go. Screen is 24" with total display size 22.5" CRT with upto 180Hz supported vertical scan rate and it's running it at 75Hz 800x600 and that soon hurts your eyes too bad to spend more time on. So I'm sacking it now.

Don't know if that would help.. or its auto.. or well heck I do not know very much of anything about it...

But I am paying attention to whats going on with the Phenom.. and I have not seen it mentioned yet.

2.5GHz on this BE is stable under XP MCE, but not on XP x64 or Vista x64! When I tried to install Suse it hang up just before file copying stage.

When for example I will use AOD to change multiplier in Windows I have 5-30 seconds before it will hand up @2.52GHz. Tried different NB freq. 1.6-2.2GHz and HT speeds from same spectrum. No difference for stability at above 2.45GHz. Yesterday this CPU was playing Crysis MP for about 45minutes at that speed (but then it hang up in Windows :p)

64 bit is usually a lil more unstable than it's 32 bit counterpart, but DAMN.

also, about low volts, on this new chip i got ( ml 34 ) was more unstable @ 2709 with 1.525 than 2736 1.520, i am still testing as i think 1.5v's is possible. but yea, sometimes low volts is the answer.

I think A64 used some "extra" registers when running in 64bit mode. I am sure Phenom is
similar in a way. Use more registers-needs more power-provides less stability?
Alexio might have a point there.
Anyway same as most of you Win x64=2.5 no more.

I can get 2550 out of mine. 232-233x11.
I have the GB DQ-6 as well and not having NB voltage control is a bummer. I just can't get above 2ghz NB speed. Dropping the NB multi to 8x helps me to get 2.5ghz but 7x doesn't give me any extra speed.
I feel I'm limited by NB speed more than the OS which is Vista Ultimate BTW.

Oh well I will just wait for Shanghai and High-K, metal gates.

My first broken 9600BE couldn't load XP x64 even @1.8GHz
That was BAD!

But finally after 3 weeks of waiting my replacement came! I think lets see what it can. Before putting this baby into socket I just noted production date - 0749FPMW (same as my previous broken one...) and started my comp on settings from my second (spare) 9600BE borrowed from friend (218HTTx11 1.25vcore). Guess what! RESTART just after 5 sec. of loading Win...
Next I lowered HTT to 210MHz (still 11x multi) and it helped - Windows loaded up to logging screen before freezing.
I gave up and set everything to STOCK - I saw logging screen again
In a desperate move I added 0.1V to make my Phenom more comfortable - Victory! I saw my desktop and then it frozen

So now I'm typing this post to you from my new Phenom 9600BE @2.0GHz (stock volts )! I will try 2.2GHz later, might work in the end ....


On a side note how big are chances that second CPU in a row from a same store will come faulty? I only can imagine what guys at RMA department will think when I call them tomorrow . This time I will probably go for refund and try normal 9600 instead of BE.

Wish I was closer and staying at my own place. Then I could come over or you could come over and check the chips out in 5 MBs to see what exactly is faulty.

I tested someone elses Phenom 9600 BE today morn who thought the 3rd core was faulty at stock on a AM2 MB (ASUS Crosshair) and it turned out the chip ran fine but had compatibility issues with the BIOS and would give a BSoD at or during boot. Flashed older better BIOS to get it running fine.

I will test them during weekend on MSI K9A2 Plat V2 just to make sure, but the one I sent back 3 weeks ago was found to be faulty.

On top of that I've already tested different BIOSes for my mobo with these Phenoms with no major difference for stable clocks.

I probably need to wait for B3

Now when I go into the bios I do whatever I have to as fast as I can and try to save it before it freezes. Sometimes I have to reset 5-10 times just to set a voltage. There is no way I can go in and twiddle around with ram timings or anything that takes some thinking over.
But in windows (Vista 64) it's as stable as a rock.

Just wondering if it might be the motherboard My 1st one didn't play up like this.

Bios freezing up on you sounds like ram being pushed just a little too hard to me. My Crosshair does the same if I tweak my ram too much.

It's not that. My ram can run over 1100mhz and with everything stock and ram at 800mhz it still does it.

Yes, I'm running all on DQ-6.

I had BIOS freezes with first (faulty) 9600BE and to some extent with my 9500 on early F3A/B revisions.
I did try my new 9600BE @2.2GHz and it's stable. Anything above it's NOT (regardless of voltages)!

What is wired is that the other Phenom 9600BE (MPMW 0750) is stable up to 2.42GHz on my mobo as well as my first 9500 .

I'm going for a long trip tomorrow so probably test on MSI will need to wait till Saturday morning. Then we will know more

Got the same problem guys, 9600 be in a k9a2 plat rev.1, and whats even more, Its not stable at 2305, I can't raise the fsb 1 mhz, or the multi .5 without it locking.

But its stable as all hell at 2300, no problem

Are you seeing a change between 32 and 64 bit operating systems?

I haven't tried yet, I'm thinking of going back to xp 32 bit and just running a 3gb switch and pae switch so I can use the 4 gigs of ram (only reason I use 64bit os is because I wanted to utilize all 4 gigs of the ram.) Maybe this weekend.

Well after not being able to stay 2400mhz stable with XPx64bit pro i installed Xp32bit over the weekend ..

On my first try with a Modded Bios i did FSB222 @ 2553mhz with 9600BE @1.33vid....3Dmark06 Crysis and other games and prime all ran the way thier suppose too...Im so happy now..When i have time ill see if i can get more MHZ...Cant complain for only 5minutes of tweaking with Bios and 32bit OS.

I tried for two weeks to get 2400mhz stable with stupid X64bit ,major BSOD's and im glad i went back to 32bit ..Untill the bugs are worked out of Phenom and the 64bit OSes i am sticking with 32bit.

64b will be faster for Cinebench multi-threaded (~450points behind Q6600 same clock) but slower than 32b for WinRAR BTW.

I've tested my Phenoms on MSI K9N2 V2 Plat. and the outcome is same. CPU's not stable.
The only difference is the way computer hangs up. On Gigabyte it was freezing screen. On MSI is usually giving blue screen .

Anyway I've ordered my 3rd Phenom 9600BE and sent back faulty one. I should get new one tomorrow .

Both XP x64. On Vista x64 hangs even faster (just a bit)!

This Phenom is working in 64bit mode !(at default settings at least)
Now I will try to find my max. stable freq.

Update:
2.4GHz not stable, but loads Windows and can finish rendering test from Cinebench R10 x64
2.33GHz STABLE

Not a good batch ...
That will need to last till B3 hit U.K. market
