New System, First Time Water Cooling

I am just about to buy the last few components for the PC itself, and look forward to water cooling it. The computer's specs are/will be as follows:
Case: Lian Li V2000B
PSU: Corsair TX750W
Motherboard: DFI LP UT P35 T2R
RAM: Teamgroup Xtreem DDR2 1066
CPU: Intel Q6600 G0
Video Card: EVGA 8800GTS[G92] 512MB

I was planning on the following loop, was wondering if you could give advice.

CPU Block: MC-TDX 1/2"
GPU Block: IONE for Nvidia G92 GT and GTS 1/2"
Pump: DD12V-D5 1/2"
Radiator: Black Ice GTX360 1/2" High Flow Barbs
Reservoir: Danger Den Dual 5 1/4 Bay 1/2"
Tubing: Tygon 3603 1/2" ID 3/4" OD [Six feet enough? or how much tubing should I get?}
Thermal Paste: Arctic Silver
Additive: Swiftech HydrX Coolant
Main Fluid: Distilled Water


What are your thoughts on this loop and any ideas on what I should expect for temps? Any parts I should change?

I'd reccomend going with a d-tek fuzion with the quad nozzle, a mcw 60 with ram sinks, a d5, a mcr-320, a t-line, a bunch of dangerden's new chrome fittings, at least 15 feet of tygon r3603 and some distilled water and pt-nuke. order from petra's

I would change the radiator to a swiftech MCR320 or a thermochil 120.3

i would also change the block to a d tek fusion or an EK supreme

Pump choice is good, id go for 7/16" tubing, it fits over 1/2" barbs, but gives a nice seal than 1/2" tubing.

I havent seen the GPU block you list, but a swiftech MC60 would be a good choice

The IONE works great for me, temps are fine and hard to believe but it has better flow than the MWC-60 in Martins flow tests.

The Fuzion with the o-ring works better.

The other recommended rads are better.

6 ft is not enough, get 10 to start, you might use 8 ft, nice to have an extra couple feet.

remember, if you do frequent upgrades, a fullcover block won't do cause if you get a new v card, then you need a new wb. a mcw60 has great compatibility

After some of the comment I changed the radiator and GPU ideas. I was interested with why people have been saying not to go with the MC-TDX. My reasoning for going with the MC-TDX were as follows:

It seemed that it could be superior or equal to the Fuzion. Was wondering what makes the Fuzion a better buy?

well, techpowerup doesn't have a direct comparison with the fuzion, and the fuzion has known performance numbers. the mc-tdx does not. choose either block you want, the difference is probably 3 degrees celcius differnece if not less. wait for martin to finish testing if you really want the best results

Decided to stick with the MC-TDX and went with an IONE for the 8800 due to availability of the MCW60. Waiting for those to arrive but here's the beginning of the project to be:

No hijack intended... but what is "Fuzion with O-ring"? I see this everywhere and always forget to ask.

fuzion with o-ring is for it to bow and help temps by 2-3 degrees celcius. also, from what i heard, it decreases flow for some reason

If you get the nozzle kit, it comes with a small rubber washer. You place this between the top and the middle section. It forces the water through the hole in the middle section where the nozzle is placed.

[Conumdrum]

The stock washer reduces flow because it seals an internal leak in the block. All the water goes through the main cooling chamber instead of some water going directly to the exit hole. Thus a bit more restriction, thus less flow but better temps. The nozzles that come with the washer kit does block flow. Play with Martins flow rate spreadsheet, you'll see how much.

I don't think the stock washer bows the HS. You have to use a thicker washer (no idea how much) to bow the block.

So now I got everything except for the main blocks tubing and thermal paste. Just waiting for that to really get started. Removed the EVGA heatsink from the 8800 gts. Look's nice.

NoL and I have been working on this build, sorry for the quality of these pics just to show where we are at in the build. Had to use my cell phone.


thats the Microres mounted in drive, the 2 Sata DVD/CD Drives, Floppy Drive, Hard Drive mounted along bottom in center above the 120.3


The A.C. Ryan 120x3 Brick Grill that we cut a hole out of the bottom of the lian li and mounted to the bottom. Center fan bolted and cut the edges of the fans so it fits perfectly.


The Micro Res Mounted on top drive bays.


Note where the Hard Drive is. In the center of the bottom section. Modified cage.


As we began to cut we realized that we didn't know where the dremel holder was. Well.... that's ok. Thanks to NoL's skills we made our own! Motherboard standoffs, screws, drill. It works. Kids, don't try this one at home!

Course, will take much better pictures tomorrow, I believe you should be able to. as it is "Small size: 4 x 3 x 1.5" (100x76x38mm)" The 1.5 being the Width. So three would be 4.5". But I'll get pictures tomorrow. NoL and I should finish the build tomorrow as the last parts arrive then.

NoL and I have finished getting everything in and the pc is running. Will post up pictures tonight. It's essentially silent. NoL and I shall be overclocking, tweaking, and cleaning up the insides later as didn't have time last night. We shall add rockers for the cathodes and utilize acrylic to hide and great a better effect of the cathodes themselves. Pics tonight!!!

That dremel was a bit of intuition, sitting there going hmmm either wait to cut tomorrow or make something tonight; 3 mobo standoffs hahaha. They snapped once or twice and I took a flying disc to the head.

Of course, the only thing I'm still trying to figure out is foaming. There seems to be a LOT of foam / small air bubble sections. Worried about that....

I think I figured it out. I moved around the case a bit and got a huge pocket of air to move to the res lowering the water level. I think it was just the fact that I don't know how to bleed the system correctly. I'll bleed it with res open and fill it back up tonight.
