Best gaming mouse and keyboard?

Just built a new gaming computer and looking for a gaming mouse and keyboard? What do you think would be the best not worrying about costs?

G5 if you're serious about gaming, G7 wireless is tetchy and, well, wireless. Either that or a DeathAdder - whichever of these two fit your hand better.

Gaming keyboard - no such thing IMHO, except perhaps a MS ergonomic. I'd go for a gamepad - like a WolfClaw or a Saitek Command Unit. Standard keyboards cramp your wrist and hand for long-term use.

Death Adder + almost anything for keyboard. Stay away from wireless mice.

I'm at my 3th razer diamondback with an notebook-key keyboard from logitech which rocks ass. I like notebook keys, they're so clicky

About the mice. Diamondback. I've had a red one, blue one and now a glossy white one (1.6 click!)

I use a saitek Eclipse II keyboard and a Logitech MX Revolution. Both work great, are comfortable and pretty durable.

You should probably try out the keyboard and mouse before you buy them to make sure you do indeed like them.

Razer Lachesis and Razer Lycosa are the two best available until they come up with something else. Already got the Lachesis and got my Lycosa on the way now that ive had a tester of it

I use a MX518, has served me very well. Keyboard is more difficoult thought. I tend to like whatever I get used to.

G7, best damn mouse ever. I was against wireless until I tried it (got it on sale). Will never go back. MX518 is on my spare rig.

For keyboards I've fallen in love with Saitek.

IMO 'gaming' mouses and keyboards are completely overrated and blown out of proportion. Its a matter of getting comfortable with whatever you use. It seems all too much that 'gaming' mouses/keyboard just equates to the bling factor...... ie LED lights, display readouts, fancy artwork......etc.

This is a pretty good article and worth a read if you havnt seen it already: http://www.esreality.com/?a=longpost&id=1265679&page=21. Doesn't cover the latest and greatest newer mice, but very useful. Find the sensitivity settings which you are comfortable with, and get a good mousing surface.

Personally I use an MX310 + Ultra-X keyboard combo I got from ZZF for $15 shipped. With the USB polling rate patch, its among the best 'gaming' mice on the market out there. Doesn't look as pretty though, but hey - gets the job done, cheaply, and damn well if I may say so.....

i use an $8 logitech keyboard, and a G5, i've used G7 and Revolution, the wireless just don't even come close to comparing to wired.

To the OP, ignore comments like these from people that dont have much of a clue.


Heres how it works. Lets say you use a desktop resolution of 1600x1200 (not very common, but an easy number to work with).


If you have an ordinary conventional 3 button with scroll whel mouse that is 800 DPI (dots per inch), then in order to move your cursor (or trigger in a game) from one side of the screen to the next you have to move the mouse by two inches (one inch of movement = 800 dots which half of your screen resolution).


Now if you have a slightly more expensive, but midrange 1600 DPI gaming mouse, you would only need to move the mouse by one inch to cover the same area of movement from one side of the screen to the next (1 inch of movement = 1600 dots).


At first you might feel like a faster mouse is far too quick and you are innacurate with it. This is however because your hand and wrist are used to dragging your old 800 DPI mouse for two inches back and forth, so that when you get one that is twice as fast, your hand will need to get accustomed to it. The best way to do this is just play your games XD.


Now if you play at even higher resolutions, which a lot of people do, a higher mose DPI becomes a neccessity in order to play comfortably at those resolutions. at 2048 x 15** whatever it is, you would have to be kidding if you think a Razer Lachesis is over rated and a conventional £10 800 DPI mouse is good enough for every day use. You would likely end up with sooo much wrist strain that you will end up damaging your trigger hand from the amount of dragging you would need to do on your mouse.


Basically, when it comes to picking a gaming mouse, use this information to find one that is suitable for your screen resolution. For example, my 1800 DPI Razor Diamondback is perfectly responsive, quick and strain free to use on my 1280x1024 monito. Any higher at this resolution would be a little too responsive, but my old 600 DPI conventional mouse was a complete joke.


Once you move up to a decent DPI mouse, there is no going back.


Also with gaming keyboards, Macro Keys make them all the worthwhile. Fed up of pressing 1-3-4-2-1-5 every few seconds in an RPG to activate your skills? Assign them to a macro key and just press one button to do the same thing. Also if your using lots of forums and are fed up of typing in your user name and password everytime, guess what? You can Macro them


Also I forgot to mention just how great extra buttons on your mose are. For example in a usual 3D game using the WASD movement on an unrestricted movement camera, you would need to press 'W' to run, and the 'A + D' keys to naviagate left and right, but also use your mose to move around comfortably while doing this. Now the fun part comes if you bind the action of the 'W' key to an extra mouse button, like one of the extra thumb buttons on a diamond back. You press the mouse button to run and move the mouse to navigate.

Now as for accuracy, I have my Diamondback set to maximum speed 24/7 with 'Enhance Pointer Precision' Activated in the windows mouse setting. It is pinpoint acurate, goes where I want it to, and is a complete pleasure to use. It just makes me wonder how much better the newer ones are, but the ordinary diamondback is perfect for my use

i have a Logitech G5 mouse and G15 keyboard. i love the mouse, but the keyboard sucks for typing. cheap feeling buttons. it's a good gamer though - i love how it disables the Windows Start button.

I dont actually have either yet as I am using a Saitek Eclipse 1, but I really want a macro keyboard but cant afford one yet.


From what I read the Lycosa is actually a cut down version of the Tarantula which has no extra macro keys, which I think defeats the point of buying a gaming keybard for macro keys. You want to have the extra buttons if your going to use it.

I have a Eclipse Saitek- blue edition or whatever...its all good, but CS:s got me mad and I broke the space bar. So it would only click if i hit the center...So I emailed them, twice, within 2 weeks, and ended up getting a NEW keyboard in the mail and two weeks later a space bar key? lol random

I was also one of the first to order the Razer/microsoft Habu, because I liked the intellimouse 2.0(I believe). Besides no Driver support, its a good gaming/ high sensitivity mouse

for keyboards...maybe

but gaming mice are a necessity if you want to win

imagine players of equal ability where all have a midrange optical mouse and keys

the other has a 3g sensor lachesis with the gravity gun, reload, melee weapon and crouch jump set to his additional mouse buttons

he has better action and accuracy, can own you by toileting when he needs a reload,
melee you and then headshot someone behind him before they can lock on............all while typing boom headshot with his macro'd keyboard

then speedskate away while changing audio tracks in media player

i'm not an amazing player but i'll top the scoreboard 9 times out of 10 thanks to my setup

now give me a generic 5 button opti-mouse and watch me come at the bottom
- as happens when I game on the usual server I play when on a different pc in town
