That seemed to be a problem for a lot of people and I have been fighting it as a Vista problem and not on my end. I have tried the Repair from the disc and it finds no errors. I have tried to run the SFV thing and no errors. I really miss the Repair function that XP had. It does look like maybe a fresh install of Vista is in order. I never thought to boot into XP to see if I had the same problem. I will give that a shot later in the week.

i had that same problem...the way you fix that is hit F8 at boot time and then select "last known good configuration", or similar words like that...it will allow return to default settings...basically it resets all your system changes back the way it was installed for the first time....you will regain access to windows update, control panel and other sub adjustments....UAC will remain deactivated if you disabled it before...i do!
