I have a 7-year-old Compaq that does stuff like that. Turn it on, or sometimes right after having rebooted it, and no monitor signal ever appears. I pull the plug out of the back and leave it sit for 10-15 minutes, then it works.

No idea if this is a PSU issue or a motherboard issue...

Don't know about your vcore problem.

I updated to 2602 yesterday, works OK except that EIST doesn't seem to work on it's own anymore. I needed to enable C1E too. 2406 worked fine with just EIST enabled..
Can you change the multi and have it stick with 2602? I'm on 2406 right now, and everytime I set a non-default multi, it doesn't stick.

    does anybody know the problems?

    thanks godsmack

I had the exact same problem with the voltages with my p5w. I didn't worry with it too much and put my e6600 back in while I waited for my new mobo to arrive so unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. I would recommend doing a long cmos clear though. This process is explained in the manual. I'd let it sit for 10 minutes or so before setting the jumper back to normal. Hopefully this will help.

I'm using EIST, why would I be changing multi?

Anyway, I flashed back to 2406. EIST works as per usual so 2602 is buggy in that respect.

First, back down to an 8x multi and see if your CPU and board can do 400.

I'll be flashing back too, 2602 is not stable at all for me. Even running SPD 1:1 and underclocking my memory I still get random reboots every now and then.

2406 was running fine for me 24 hour stable for weeks on end Folding- not a chance of that happening with 2602

    hey guys, quick question here

i've been using bios 2004 for quite a while with no major bugs or anything, but i'm limited to 428 fsb using 1.85v for vmch.

i have the 1.04G version of the board.

what i'd like to know if the new bioses could offer me higher FSB.. i'm talking about 450+ maybe.. anyone been lucky to get that on this board?

i've recently bought a T.R.U.E. and i'm very tempted to try to get close to 3.8Ghz on my E6420, which has been done before on a P5B-Dlx.. but i'd need 475fsb for that..

    thanks in advance

and can anybody around here get 450+ fsb 24/7 without mods?

i took away the metal covers from the heatsinks and there are two 92mm fans on the case door blowing on top of them...

i'd like to get some tips as to how maximize the fsb of my mobo, otherwise i'm going to get a cheap ass p35 that does much more than my p5w.

    Hi guys,

I've just picked up another 2GB of RAM- 4GB total now. Bios shows all 4096mb on boot.

Now when I go into an OS it shows the following (32-bit memory limitation I'm aware of):

XP 32-bit: 2.6GB memory remap disabled

XP 32-bit: 2.0GB memory remap enabled

Ubuntu Gutsy 64-bit: 3.5GB memory remap enabled

Shouldn't the 64-bit OS show all 4.0GB of RAM? The only thing I can think of that would affect this is my crossfire config- 1024mb of RAM on each card.

Anyone know how VRAM might affect memory mapping?

    Thanks

Hi Lurker, i got exactly your same config but the psu (I got an enermax liberty 500) and the videocard (i got an ati x1900xt).
I'm using xp_x64 and i can see all 4096Mb of ram.
By the way: i cannot exceed 328Mhz bus speed.. ho did you reach 333Mhz speed?????

I'm going to run a trial of Vista x64 to see if that picks up the RAM, as it shows the full amount of RAM in BIOS, I thought ubuntu 64 wouldn't have a problem with it but hopefully Vista picks it up- Can't stand the thought of unused resources

It's been hitting 333 since I've used it, It will go as far as 346 for a benching run.

Here's my config, in case it helps:

    BIOS 2602

    RAM 2.1v 834Mhz 4-4-4-12

    Vmch 1.85v

    CPU 1.30v 9 X 333

I've basically got everything else disabled- Speedstep, Hyperpath, Asus Q-Fan.

The only other thing I could think of is to re-seat the North bridge cooler, it may be loose as those Asus clips and the stock thermal goop are crap. I reseated with AS5 the day I got the board. I remember removing the cooler and there was, what looked like a pile of chalk sitting on top of the NB chip

1.85Vmch?? It's really high! Is your system unstable if you lower the Vmch?

I have the 1.03g revision board- As far as I can remember only the 1.03g and 1.04g boards have the option for 1.85v. 1.02g and lower only have an option for 1.65v but a pencil mod can get it up to 1.85v.

If I set it to auto the system won't boot at all @ 333 X 9

1.65v - System is unstable overclocked but stable @ stock

1.85v - Rock Solid. I've also got a 40mm fan on top of the heatsink. Even after hours of gaming the NB heatsink is barely luke warm.

BIOS 2602 was unstable for me for a while after I added a second gfx card and another 2GB of RAM. I never got around to flashing back to 2504. Strangely enough after a week or two of teething problems 2602 is now stable for me.

I've been running 1.85v since September and it's never caused a problem- heat or stability wise, but I've got an insane amount of 120mm Fans in a CM stacker case. 3 on the sidedoor, 1 on the case top, 1 on the front panel, 1 on the back panel and finally 2 more on a TRU120E heatsink. Overkill? Yes- But you'll never hear me complain about temps

I see. Effectively if i use 1.85Vmch the system is stable even at AUTO on Vcore! But if i touch the NB.. its really hot (i can touch it for about 5-6 seconds, then it start to hurt). Asus PC PROBE II says 40°C on MB temp. I'm a bit afraid. Under 1.85Vmch i can't go over 328Mhz.
I have a 92mm fan (silenx) on sidepanel, 120mm rear fan and 120mm front fan. The cpu cooler is the stock one.

I'd definitely stick a 40mm fan on top of the heatsink- it fits perfectly as the corner screws fit in between the heatsink fins holding it on good and tight.

What are your idle\load temps with the stock cooler at 328 x 9 ? (I'm only guessing but if your in the 60 - 70c at full load that could be your problem right there) don't know if the stock intel cooler can handle 3.0Ghz as I've never used the stock intel cooler on this mobo.

One more thing.. Have you got a B3 stepping Q6600 or a G0? Some people with the B3 had problems reaching 3Ghz others could reach 3.2 with good cooling. I'm running the G0.

I got a G0 stepping and the temps goes up to 70°C @full load.
These are the idle temps, with eist activated, Vdimm=2.05V and all other voltages to default:

Yup, from the looks of things a 40mm fan on the NB and an aftermarket cooler should sort you out. There the only things on your setup I can see that would prevent you reaching 333 X 9. There's always a chance though it could be a board problem. I'd go for something cheap and effective if it bothers you though as it's more than likely only going to run at 333 X 9 anyway. I know it's only a few mhz but not reaching 333 would p**s me off too. It still annoys me I can't get stable at 3.2

Humm, maybe you're right. I got the same mainboard of yours (1.03g) and the strange thing is that it's easy to reach 3Ghz but i get random errors during file transfers and "not exact in round" with superpi. If i use 1.85Vmch all is ok.
What about the noise of a 40mm fan on the nb?

Your gfx & psu fan would be a lot louder than a 40mm fan on the NB. You can always connect it to a motherboard fan header and set the RPM in BIOS fan control if it is too loud.

Definitely take off the heatsink and reapply some thermal paste as I can more or less guarantee that if it's still stock thermal paste it's hardened and your not getting good thermal conductivity with it.

This thread helped me a lot when setting the board up:

Definitely take off the heatsink and reapply some thermal paste as I can more or less guarantee that if it's still stock thermal paste it's hardened and your not getting good thermal conductivity with it.

This might qualify as a double post (I posted the same message in the "Making P5WDH ready-thread):

I took the liberty of uploading all the pics from this thread to rapidshare:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/99755931...onroe.rar.html

Hope that helps. They still retain all their original names, although they are
not in the same order as posted in the thread.
