Thats sucks!
Wish I was closer and staying at my own place. Then I could come over or you could come over and check the chips out in 5 MBs to see what exactly is faulty. 
I tested someone elses Phenom 9600 BE today morn who thought the 3rd core was faulty at stock on a AM2 MB (ASUS Crosshair) and it turned out the chip ran fine but had compatibility issues with the BIOS and would give a BSoD at or during boot. Flashed older better BIOS to get it running fine.
