A day after updating to 602 bios, I got a black screen while playing a game. Event Viewer shows: "The driver nv4_disp for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop"

Research indicates that this is usually a mb bios, memory, graphics card issue. It's usually not the video card, but an interaction between the video card and system memory. Remember, XP can Address a maximum of 4GB, and that includes your video card memory. That's why you see less than 4GB of memory in Windows (usuallly 3.25 to 3.50 GB reported in Windows).

I've been playing the same game everyday, so since this problem happened for the First time after the bios update, it may be the bios. Memory checks out fine with MemTest for 8 hours.

If it happens again, I will go back to 601.

I also decided to bump my memory voltage from 1.9 to 2.0v (The G.Skill memory calls for 2.0 ~ 2.1). Since the P5E MAY overvolt by .05, I should be within spec.

Bikebuilderdude over at the Asus Forum said the Bios 0602 is now listed on the download site and it is another Beta bios with no change log.

I now see it at http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

It's marked only as "Latest Beta Bios"

Just went to the site to download the latest bios for my new P5E and saw 0808 available. I didn't see anything listing it as a beta so I'll see what happens. Haven't even started to overclock to see what I can do on the current bios since I just threw the machine together last night. Don't even know what version Bios is on the board now, haha.

I'll let you know what I find using the below:
    Xeon 3075
    Ballistix PC6400 2gb
    ATI HD3850
    XEON 3075 (3.2ghz for now)
    Asus P5E
Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 2gb (stock for now)
    HD3850 512mb (715/945 for now)
    OCZ Powerstream 520watt
    Coolermaster CM Stacker

I´m just learning to OC with this Asus P5E3 WS PRO(modded by SF3D).
Seems to be just as good ocer like my Asus Maximus Formula SE was, if not better.

There is no 0808 bios for the P5E. You're looking at the wrong bios. The latest bios is 0602. However, I had video card issues with 0602. 0601 was golden.

As the P5E will not take a Xeon chip, I think he has a different board.

Here's hoping he didn't try to flash it, then. 'cause unless the flashing program went "omg! teh bios iz 4 teh wrong board!!!11!" he could end up with a nice dead P5E...

COD4 crashed on me yesterday, it didn't black screen, it just shut down, never happened before.

When I flashed back to 502 from 601 I put it on a USB drive and used the flash utility in the BIOS. Worked fine.

Same thing for me,going back to 601 from 602 was not a issue, guess if it sees that the bios is within a certain "date" it allows the flash??? With ASUS, its hard to tell what the hell is going on...

The P5E is identical to the Formula except:

-second network adapter (do you really need two?)
    -few fan headers (how many fans do you really need?);
    -onboard reset and power buttons (how often do you use these?);
    -Voltiminder LEDs (blinking lights!)
-Different MB Heatsinks (many say they don't cool any better)
-LCD poster with cool blue backlight (which may be used as night light)
-some BIOS tweak options (which you will never use)
    - Did I miss anything?

I went with the P5E because less problems were reported at NewEgg and in forums.

(No insult intended for Maximus Formula Owners - The P5E and Formula are essentially the same and are both great. In fact, they used the same pcb board)

I went back to 601 due to infrequent and random video card lockups. Used a USB flash drive and EZFlash (the flash utility built into the bios - the safest way to flash).

I was having a hell of a time getting my 4 sticks of Corsair 6400C4 memory to behave on this board and just want to thank Doakh. I caught one of your posts on the Asus forum and it did the trick. I've never had to tweak the Northbridge voltage before but it seems the P5E needed it because at 1.45v all my memory now passes Memtest86+ 2.01.

Well looks like I'm the one with egg on his nuts Must have selected one up or down for mobo type. Thanks for catching that. Would have been a bad move to flash that tomorrow. Got the correct Bios now.

As for the Xeon not working on the mobo it is a s775 and not s771 cpu that is just the server version of the E6750. It's in and working just fine. Even did some encoding for my niece to pust some movies she wanted on her ITouch. Haven't had a chance to install everything like CPU-Z, Coretemp, etc. but I'll post the results of it detecting fine when I get home tomorrow.

0602 is working GREAT here. RAM clocking is not as good as 0107, but is WAY better than 0502 and 0601. No problems so far, I'm loving my board
