I really like the black ones they would have matched my DD block betternice work indeed. I hope you continue to make heatsinks for the new 9xxx series as well
Now that you have the kinks worked out shoudl should be able to start turning a profit. They definately don't need $20 in material each, and the more you make the cheaper per part right? I hope it all works out for you and you can start making some money from here on out. You are feeding a nitch which has been needed for some time now.
I have the Qimonda memory as well but on the GTS card so it goes over 1000 mhz although not as much as sammys probably would. Card is running at 785/1050![]()

Crunching for [XS]
Actually the material is one of the cheaper parts, the most expensive part of the sinks is the machine time. Only so much flex there, the big risk is that to turn a profit I'd have to make very large batches of these, or sell them for about $5-10 more a set retail.

I picked up a set of black ones at Petra's two days ago. Good stuff, thanks iandh!

Ordered on December 21; received today.
With all the trouble that Ian went through, I am pleased with his communication. My original shipment disappeared from Ian's post office, in the middle of the post-Christmas rush. His prompt replies to my inquiries gave me the confidence to refrain from filing a dispute with PayPal, as my 45-day clock wound out. Finally, he gave me the option of an original piece or an anodized part, then shipped to me within a couple days receipt of that part from his supplier!
I can't say that this has been an enjoyable ride; however, it is petty in comparison to the frustrations that this man must've had to endure. I am very pleased with my black heatsinks. THANK YOU, Ian!![]()
Yeah, considering the sheer amount of sinks that I sold, the lost/delayed parts were definitely in the minority. A great deal of the shipments that I thought were lost were actually severly delayed and were delivered eventually. It was a bit hard to keep track of them I must admit, when receiving 5 or more PM's a day inquiring about the sinks.
As far as I know, at this moment I have done right by everyone who has ordered from me.
Sorry to those few of you that had to wait this long, and I am happy that I was finally able to fill your orders... Thanks!

Met up with Petras Alex Venz today and finally got my hands on a set in black.
Not if you recall, XFX sent me the replacement 8800gt with a revised board layout. after taking a close look and comparing screw hole placement I was able to determine that the vrm heatsink would indeed fit on the top side of the card.
Now as I'm sure you all want, heres the pictures.

Thanks a lot for the pictures... that probably made any owners of my sinks with xfx cards feel a bit better about if they have to ever RMA and receive one of the new boards.

I had a chance to install the new anodized sinks today. Before installing them, I took a q-tip dipped in alcohol and cleaned it. When I was done, the side of the q-tip that I used to clean the sinks was black. Is that normal?
Yeah, it is. Not the best way to clean anodized blocks.
Just use water, and buff with a soft cloth.
Yep, all colors of anodizing save clear (silver/natural) are actually dyes applied to clear anodized parts.
You can easily damage them with strong solvents.

Can't wait until I get my build done, I'll definitely pick up a set of black sinks!

So the silver anodized sinks are dyed with a silver color? Is that silver "dye" what gives the anodized sinks the shiny finish?
No.
Silver "anodized" is really a very tough clearcoat. That's why it's so tough to break when polishing cases.
So then the alcohol-dipped q-tip I used to clean mine couldn't have damaged the anodized finish right? I used 100% isopropyl alcohol from Fry's.
It's not good anyway. Black anodizing can be done with a car battery and a bottle of Rit dye, honestly. While hard anodization chemically changes the metal, that is a lot of expense and undertaking, leading to easier color dipping.
I wouldn't do it except on the back side.
Nope, the silver is "natural" or "clear" anodizing, as you are seeing the natural color of the aluminum through the clear oxide layer which is formed during the anodizing process.
Any color other than silver uses additives which can eventually fade. Silver anodized parts can sometimes become more "white" over time as the finish develops micro-cracks from heat/cold, and as a deeper oxide layer forms through continued contact with chemicals and oxygen in the air.
