So, I just got in my new sticks of ram, and none of them work either. I am beginning to suspect the motherboard. I have set everything to loose and tried many times. but no go. So, what is vote: CPU or Motherboard?

don't think it's just D9GKX that acts that way (maybe not as bad CAS5 but similar CAS4) it's just the binning process at the time.. lots of D9GMH produced around 12-18 months ago behaved the same with same cas4/5 scaling at similar voltages until better binned D9xxx came along

The D9GKX sticks I have will do 4-4-4/1200MHz+ on the 975, 965 and RD600 chipsets at 2.2V or less. I've yet to find a board based on the 35/38 chipset that these sticks will do the same without having to use 2.4V+ on the memory and a massive amount of NB voltage.

Anyone? CPU or motherboard? There is now way that I have this many bad sticks.

Could it be memtest? I am using the new version of it (2.00).

I am using 8gb and it's working fine here. I tested with prime95 blend. Last time i used memtest 2.0b it was glitchy.

Can you test the sticks in another motherboard? Some systems are just plain picky

There was an older version of Memtest I remember hearing problems about. I haven't got my board set up yet - does DFI still put Memtest in the BIOS?

Well, it looks like DFI is going to do a cross ship. I hope this does well, or I will be buying an Asus Rampage Formula instead.

    Memtest #7

Anyone knows what errors in Memtest #7 means in this board (too much volt for mems, too less, to much Vnb too less?)?

    I'm getting them with +/-1200Mhz + 4x1gb Tracer's 8500, what should I do?

yeah i got mine a while ago too. i guess bad luck as you said.
anyways been looking at the cell shocks as they are guaranteed D9GMH. What do you guys think i could get out of these on this board? or recommend something else better or cheaper?
    thx.

its a bit expensive i think
    ballistix 6400 39$ after rebate
    Code:

even the tracers are 54$ no rebate worth the risk i think

play with combinations of NB volts, vdimm and clock fine delay values

not sure as i not 100% sure if i have any D9GKX in my collection of Micron D9xxx - see list below. But for benching I've used between 2.45-2.65v vdimm with no probs on my list below.

Guess i haven't been as lucky only 3 or 4 sets of my memory can do 600mhz 4-4-4-x and they all need 2.55-2.65v to do it.

    • 8x 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500
    • 2x1GB G.Skill 6400 2GB HZ

All above are Micron D9xxx based but heatspreaders intact so can't confirm them with exception of 1 set of Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500 i lifted heatspreaders from due to mis-aligned heatspreader and they along with already naked pair of Team 6400C3 are both Micron D9GMH.

Raja and I both bought these when Cell Shock first released them. I guess at $500.00 a set at that time we deserved to get lucky.

Wow thanks a bunch you guys

    @eva2000
I wonder if i should take the heatspreaders off my tracers because when i took them out one time and noticed a sticky sound from the TIM not making good contact with the chips themselves. since then i have a fan directly on them.

i guess ill take my chances with the regular ballistix 8500 because they are so cheap these days.

anyone know if there is any real difference between china vs taiwan made boards in the lt-x38.. on some boards it seems most people say the issues they have are on a china made mobo..i dont hear many issues with taiwan ones or at least no one has said they were taiwan ones?? just curious if there is/was any quality difference between the two?? thanks

I'm not sure what issues you're talking about, but mine is made in China and seems to be fine.

I suspect some of the reported crucial ballistix module deaths have been due to such poor contact between heatspreader and ICs... as such if the heatspreader wasn't making contact, I'd remove them (very carefully with help of hair dryer). Risk is rma'ing them you could get the poorer clocking single sided ballistix modules as replacement

yeah I can imagine!... strangely though most of my ballistix modules can do 640-650mhz 5-4-4-x at similar voltages needed to do 600mhz 4-4-4-x !

he is probably talking about the vCore issue (some component had different specs than taiwan boards and thus the bios/vcore table was not corrent, resulting in wrong real vcore voltages as opposed to set in bios). The last bios fixed this.
have china board and cant complain. 3537Mhz Q6600 on Air OOCT stable....waiting for better fans in mail to attempt higher vcore and OC.

i dont trust Ram HS at all!! They come all off sooner or later. An idea would be either a) to remove them and screw warranty or b) use something like those strong foldback clips in addition to hold them in place.

clip them at the side so HS wont come off that easily.

I remember it was NB voltage that was much higher than set in the bios for some settings and yes that was fixed with the last bios.
