    Phenom 9600BE / K9A2 Platinum

I have started doing a little testing on my new build and have been wondering if anybody might have any tips. My new build consist of.

    9600BE @ 2.620GHz / 228 X 11.5 8hrs Prime95 Stable 11C Idle 27C Load Water cooled.
    2 - 1GB Muskin Extreme 1066 running at 904Mhz 5-5-5-12-18-2T, I can not get it to boot at 1066 ??

    MSI K9A2 Platinum Bios 1.1

2 - MSI OC 3870 X2 only one installed so far the second hits my pump and resivor, scores 13100+ 3DMark06 points. new pump and resivor comming.

    CoolMax 1200W 4 - 12v rails, 2-25A, 2-20A

One problem I am having with the board is it will not recognize my SCSI adapter card, thus I can not run my 2 - Fujitsu 15000 U320 hard drives and pointers would be appriacted.

Any sugestions or pointers on how to get the ram to run at 1066 would be greatley appricated as would any sugestions on things to try to get this puppy up to 3GHz would be appriaceted. I do see in some of the other threads where people are getting to 2.9 - 3.0 and I would like to give it a shot. I am not used to these AM2 boards. I stuck with socket 939 so I really have no experiance with the AM2's so any help is appricated.

It won't do unless you've installed the SB600 chipset drivers from AMD's site .. ?

Don't even try it with the old BIOSes, they may give you a non-booting Phenom. The BIOSes which have all DRAM dividers working perfectly are only P0F, P0H and 133 IIRC. The rest won't run 1:2 (800) and 1:2.66 (1066) modes properly together. So if you want to run 1066 mode, you'll have to flash those BIOSes and make sure your settings are default at bootup. Chinese New Lunar Year celebrations just ended 13th so all the progress has been delayed but I'm expecting a good new BIOS out very soon which will resolve many problems.

So far many issues, if not all have been ironed out with the latest BIOS.

1.13 BETA is the best performer so far in our opinion but it doesn't run 1066 mode.

I do see in some of the other threads where people are getting to 2.9 - 3.0 and I would like to give it a shot.
You should do, but I will advise you that I haven't seen anyone yet run +2.9GHz stable on air with Phenom yet, meaning without instability issues. Most users are stuck sub 2.8GHz max. YMMV, and you should give it a try with your chip. If you're trying for oc's then the BIOS you want to try is the 1.13 and 1:2 mode, not the 1066 mode. Use the AM2+ P-State options for oc. Much is covered in the Phenom 9500w/MSI RD790 thread, all there although progressive and scattered yet. Mainly because we're still figuring out Phenom in some ways.

Thanks for the replies. I have been reading through the 9500w/MSI RD790 thread, and actually I have been copying and pasting allot of it to word so I can understand what is being said better. The thread is a little jumbled and confusing at times.

KTE you have put allot of time into testing and reporting your findings on the Phenom and it is gratley appriaceted. I am at a bit of a loss when it comes to the AM2 and overclocking them. I stuck with 939s and never attempted to learn anything about the AM2's. This rig previousley was running a FX-60 on an ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe at 3.2GHz stable scoring 12500 3DMark06 points. It took literally months to achieve that allot of testing and failures. I am sure your thread will cut down on the amount of time it takes to get this thing running at it's best and thanks for all of the work you have done.

The thread is a personal work log rather than an official overclocking/board thread and so it's progressive and continuous portraying the actual confusion and mystery of Phenom/AM2+ as we unravel it. It's all of us together and working something out of these systems. I don't have the time nor can I verify the commitment to continuously update since I usually only read/post at night, have no other time and many times I'm called off away on duty unexpectedly hence no specific guide/board thread. Don't have the time for it frankly. Also this board, BIOS have seen changes already and the difference are just too many yet to write something official unless you keep going back and editing. I made a P4 guide a few years back when I was on here and it went to waste since I couldn't get back online for 11 months since starting it and when I finally did, I didn't remember my password nor username.

The hardware is from my uncle rather than any manufacturer or sponsor. He's a kind guy.

I use various systems AMD and Intel systems but this AM2+ is very different and confusing unless you really get into it and learn. I would expect this to become common in the future, as more technologies release you have to adapt to new trends and methods and so learn them. It takes time with everything new, so give it time, read and experiment. There will be things even I have not covered yet, undoubtedly. The more reading you do, the better.
