Installed the driver, 90 second delay still there...

Re-installed the driver, 90 sec delay still there....

Fired up device manager and uninstalled the sound card.
(Right click on 'Computer' and manage)

Re-booted. Vista detected the sound card and it installed drivers.

Re-booted, 90 second delay is now a skinny 10 seconds until full internet conection is made, and programs ready to launch!!

    This is OP update material...

3.8GHz is hitting the ground early now!!!

Thanks for the info JohnMike. Way to be a Team player!!!

stupid to ask but you guys did do the msconfig tweak to utilize all cores while loading right? i know that vista and xp both are set by default to load off 1 core.

    msconfig
    boot.ini
    advanced options
check /numproc and set it to highest available number. 4 for quads 2 for duals *duh*

if you already know, then just ignore... just gotta throw that one out there.

I didn't know, but just tried it. Vista blocks the program at boot up each time. I currently have to manually slect allow if I want it to run.

im not sure what boards you guys have but the Formula doesnt use the realtek drivers it uses the marvel Yukon NIC and drivers
    it is NOT realtek..

Hmmm isnt the bottom one port #1

    Edit#1
Rebooted and rex X is still there and the delay is still there, cant open programs or folders for about 30-45 sec's after the OS has loaded.
Once the NIC's red X is gone everything starts working fine, there is alot of drive activity during this delay.
Gonna disable the second NIC in BIOS and see what gives.

    Edit#2
I disabled and enabled the proper NIC's in BIOS and hooked up my cat5 cable to NIC port #1, it's the upper one, disabled NIC #2 and now after a couple of reboots my NIC initializes right away and I can now open programs and folders no more delay.

    Edit#3
Wow this is weird I disabled NIC #1 in BIOS, hooked up my cat5 cable to NIC #1 and still have connection to the web?!?
Going to try the opposite becaus the delay was happening when I had my cat5 connected to NIC#2 and possibly had IT disabled in BIOS at the time.
Dont know if it's Vista or the board but net ttraffic is redirected to either working NIC independetly if it's disabled in BIOS.

    i've never seen a company switch nic's
not like they cant do that if they run out.
production would have to be really heavy to do that.
but yes they could do it.

they are both mediocre nic chipsets anyways with crap driver support
its why i will NEVER use onbaord audio. super duper crap ultra sh|t realtek HDAduio,, yeah whatever.

I tried uninstalling the sound driver and rebooting... this removed the delay for me also, but also reverted back to the generic driver. Is it sound or is it network, lol... either way the boards rockin... would just like to resolve the unknowns.

Anyone know why I can't get my DVD-RW drive detected as such on this motherboard? I've uninstalled the dvd drive and the ide drivers from device manager and let windows reload it and it still can't detect it properly.

Just a informative question, i bought Maximus Formula yesterday will be shipped here tommorow ... what are the major flaws of this board .. honestly, every board has them. Cold boots , it can't boot with 4x 2 GB Dual side sticks, cooler suck , the vdrop is bigger than a generation gap btw Caesar and Bush and so on. + What's bios is the best. I won't use the integrated Soud Max crap buzzer so i don;t mind the sound quality. Thanks for shor compare

Really bad voltage flexes that make hardware used such as CPU and Memory to degrade.
My Rig can do EpicFLOPs, Can yours?

X38 DQ6 blown PCI Mosfet = Total Instability when PCI card connected so I RMAe'd it and needed a new one [ i hate to wait] and only Maximus Formula in this category is available. DQ6 was allready set as End of Life product

These issues mostly occur when leaving voltages to auto.
Need to fully understand all setting in bios.
I have no problem with degration.
But these settings if change a little a restart and/or blue screen is going to happen
    for example gtls,dram refs.

As far as memory concern Asus is great there being compatible and overclockable (comparing to Abit Quad GT for example).

So the MOBO won't be problematic if good memory is used , correct me if im'm wrong. 4 x 2 GB Geil Black Dragon 800/CL5 not OCed will work and i won't be forced to throw half of them out because of something ...

I for one was unaware of this tweak. Thanks for posting it. From the time I hit "enter" after entering my password, loading of the OS is almost immediate. Everything is already in the system tray (Everest with temps too) and my wireless card comes already connected. That eliminated my delays without touching the drivers.

I don't want to dissapoint you guys, but Vista doesn't use boot.ini anymore. Instead it saves its bootsettings in Boot Configuration Data Store (BCD Store) which is in binary format and therefore not editable with a texteditor.

You can change settings using bcdedit. But even don't know without googling if there's a setting for coreamount is required.
