Same goes for my G.skill 8000CL5 4GBPQ, cant even get it stable @ 1040 5-5-5-15 up to 2.1v which is ridiculous.
My theory on this is that... 45nm cpus are doing faster cycles and therefore need tighter timings. use to run 4:5 and 5:6; but with 45nm, I've found 1:1 with tight timings the only way my memory is stable enough to run dual 32M spi's.

Thanks for the post. The way I remember it did it ininially right after my initial OS install, so I do believe that it just might be a Maximus thing.

You never get any errors, it just isn't willing to take any orders for 90 seconds.

It would be nice to find a setting that would allow you to reduce this time delay.
I can tell you that when I was re-booting allot, messing with my BIOS settings, it worked my nerves real good.

e...woke up to the infamous DET RAM error and realized that board will not boot with any ram in the blue slots. Took a look inside and saw this!

The final service pack fixes alot of indexing issues with Vista
I'm running the RTM now and it's a huge improvment over the rc1

I'm running RTM too; indexing service is always going to do what it's designed for, so is superfetch. My WDs are noisy, so I notice these things.

Same here my WD's are always clacking away with Vista, I have search service disabled. I might trun off superfetch, hell I know where my files are I dont need Vista to keep track of them.
But I might format and run XP again ...cant decide

    Hi guys.
I got my SE back from RMA (with burned chip on board). They realized that I had removed the heatsink and the shop redirected the board to asus and they repaired it anyway
    Very lucky I guess.
Now I am thinking about what to do with the board. My current non-SE has that issue that it won`t boot anymore(and one day and 50 bootattempts after it suddenly boots like nothing happened) after making any bad setting in bios because of broken loading of defaults after OC/bad biossetting
But it is running at the moment and stable settings I found out last weeks are still stable, but changing sth. in bios and I must be afraid of the board and that it doesn`t boot anymore till next day or whenever it likes to.

He aswell confirmed there is really NO advantage going from the P5K deluxe to the maximus.

And I see u got the Blitz, I never had the chance to test that board, but leeghoofd did he said that the Blitz forumla was the best out the 3 and that can be said, I would say if u are not happy with your maximus, give your blitz a second chance

    * edit: I will test tomorrow my G.Skill 8000CL5 4GBPQ on my Deluxe, if I can run 1066/1080 5-5-5-15/12 up to 2.1v, then I am 100% sure my Maximus crapped out and need to be dumped, already confirmed with my Crucial Tracers already, as I already requested the RMA and had already a RMA ticket, lucky I didnt RMA it before testing it on the Deluxe, would be pita if I will get a pair that are worser then the samples I got now.
Cool, cheers MC2K!!! I'll give the Blitz a whirl before I choose which board to attach the Phase Change to. I want the most stable of the two when I'm pushing for 4.2GHz 24/7 stable!

Would the PCI-E v2 really make a huge difference on the Maximus?

hello , I have 2 raptors that I want to set up raid.
my question is do I have to load diver during installing windows vista. Before I set up raid on the P5W DH Deluxe I did not have to install driver.

If yes , I don't have a floopy disk to make the disk
I did tried to load the driver from the Maximus cd to the thumbdrive with no success, it says "unable to get disk information" any suggestion guys ? thanks

You dont need any drivers during Vista installation.

In BIOS just selesct RAID for your drives, reboot.

Watch for the Intel Matrix screen and hit ALT-I and setup your raid, reboot.

Put your Vista CD in your DVD drive and way you go, also make sure once you have setup your RAID that it's the first drive in your boot order, that is why youre getting the message "unable to get disk information" .

Tell me about it...I can only run 2GBs on Vista now.

Waiting to see if NCIX will RMA for me...the board is only a week old replacement for a P5K Premium that I started having issues with.

Another comment on the slow response after booting in to Vista. The "slowness" doesn't happen until I install the sound driver... so my guess is it's related to the onboard sound in some way.

problem is, this is a new board that was just swapped out. I made sure the cooling was mounted correctly on the processor as well.

Is there a way to reset the cmos via a jumper instead of using the button on the back of the board ?

Unfortunately, I have the same issue as you after 3 weeks of use. At first I thought it was the memory, but I noticed the voltage regulators were leaking when the board was taken out.

In regards to those loading issues... once that 30-45 secs passes all those types of progs (that access hardware I guess?) load instantly... and windows doesn't feel slow or anything, in fact it loads quite quickly...

Off topic... thinking of upgrading ram for something faster... 4x1gb or 2x2gb a better way? I see very few 2x2gb sets out there at higher speeds.

The system returnes to it's speedy normal self.

I have looked in Device Manager, but find nothing that is !'ed.

I know the system is trying to do something for the first 60 seconds when the desktop appears, that runs with such a high priority, it stops all other system activity. Only when Vista gives up on the idea (what-ever it is) does the system allow any programs to launch.

I have just been waiting it out on bootups, and scratching my head mostly.

Everest won't launch, CPU-Z won't launch... No error, just no responce when when double clicking the icon, other than an hour glass mouse pointer, until the the system decides it is ready to move.

I'm going to reinstall tomorrow and see if the OS load/delay dissapears.

XP was tougher, it could handle many BSOD's and memory dumps, but Vista is more sensitive.

I also get the red X through my network icon for quite a while even though I have connectivity. I'm going to through XP on after work today and see if I get the delay in XP as well.

Thanks for the responses, at least I know it's not just me... but still in the back of my head wondering if it's the board since not everyone experiences this.
Guys.... this is not a board issue, it's network drivers issue!!!

Asus doesn't have the last Realtek drivers on their support page...

Install version 6.202 and your desktop delay is gone!

I'm testing a P5E3 Dlx and had the same problem from the first time, installed Realtek 6.202 driver and everthing is fine!

Yeah I kinda noticed the red X on the network icon also, but I thaught it was due to the fact that Vista was busy doing something else and hadn't initialized the nic yet.

Installed the realtek drivers and rebooting...

    Edit#1
Rebooted and rex X is still there and the delay is still there, cant open programs or folders for about 30-45 sec's after the OS has loaded.
Once the NIC's red X is gone everything starts working fine, there is alot of drive activity during this delay.
Gonna disable the second NIC in BIOS and see what gives.

    Edit#2
I disabled and enabled the proper NIC's in BIOS and hooked up my cat5 cable to NIC port #1, it's the upper one, disabled NIC #2 and now after a couple of reboots my NIC initializes right away and I can now open programs and folders no more delay.

    Edit#3
Wow this is weird I disabled NIC #1 in BIOS, hooked up my cat5 cable to NIC #1 and still have connection to the web?!?
Going to try the opposite becaus the delay was happening when I had my cat5 connected to NIC#2 and possibly had IT disabled in BIOS at the time.
Dont know if it's Vista or the board but net ttraffic is redirected to either working NIC independetly if it's disabled in BIOS.
