AMD Phenom 9600 Black Ed. / DFI 790FX

CPU: Pheonom 9600 BE @ Stock Cooler
    Mobo: DFI 790FX M2R
    Ram: Mushkin 8500 2G*2 5-4-4-12
    VGA: LT 88GT 512m mod(800/900/2000)
    PSU: Ultra 1600w
    HDD: WD RaptorX
    Ambient: 15c

    auto-vcore @ 2.6Ghz stable

TBH, phenom is really hard to play

worst thing is..................i'm tooooooo lucky to have a 15c coldbugged Phenom 9600 BE
with stock cooler, idle=30c, load=45c, running stable than under my watercooling system (idle=10c, load=18c).
add volt, tune up temp_ref = no use, this means i have no chance to see 3Ghz on this chip

Mine is the same stepping as lightman's except week 0747 not 0749. It hit 2.82 at 1.3 on air, seems steppings don't matter all that much on these phenoms, mostly just pure luck of the draw. If I put mine on the vapo I'll let you know if I get a coldbug, my regular did boot up at -50C though.

Edit: Yeah, my BE boots fine with the cold, but I'm still not sure about how well it clocks under the cold.

Victor: I didn't expect you to have such a bad 1M time

Hint: Clock that NB much higher, like +2.5GHz.

You can get sub 27s at the same MHz without any OS tweaks. Maybe switching themes off is making it slow here. AMD CPUs work completely different to Intel in tweaks etc.

CB chip, that's bad. All of mine go under cold to -30C ok.

My 9500 was the same batch and week as yours yet it did much better on basic air.

I got 2.82 on the asus at 1.3v, 2.85 took a bump to 1.35, 2.9 just wouldn't get stable. What bios did you use on the asus, I'm using 0801.

The Gigabyte is quicker than ASUS, DFI and MSI 790FX IME, but not much. The quickness in boards is usually an Intel thing now since AMD has the IMC (MCH) within the CPU and that's where most "quickness" tweaking is done apart from when benching peripheral or onboard components.

But still, there is a difference between them and in Pi and many benches the GBT board will be quicker overall although the DFI IME is a better clocker (if you can get it working without problems).

Still Victor has a PP of near 76.8k with a tweaked run, while with a completely untweaked Windows run you can get 73.5k. That's why I was, this being from him

lol, i didn't do any tweak, pi is slow 'coz of memory clk is low.
and i can't enable 1T at such clk

tbh, bottle neck is the FSB, i have no idea why i can't clk fsb>233mhz
and with fsb=225, i can't set ddr2-1066, system will freeze during post.
but i'm pretty sure my memory can stable at ddr2-1200+ .

Phenom won't benefit in Pi at 1200 Victor. You'll be stuck with 4-5-5-15 and 26 tRC if you go 1066, no lower is possible with Phenom at 1066 mode.

Did you try 105ns tRFC for 1200? Or did you feed IMC volts when you tried that? (it needs them)

1T is quite bad though. BIOS bug, because I've ran 1T on both the DFI and the MSI.

You only need around 212HT ref and you can better those benches with a high IMC. IMC clock matters most apart from CPU.

Here's an example. Compare with your test. With plus 2.5GHz IMC, this time can go lower yet and more lower with tweaks such as high RAM. Many will get more efficient time than this as this had antivirus/firewall/all services running in background (attached)

I can't get my 9500 over 233htt either. Even with 1800 on the nb
    That's on my GBT.
The Asus crosshair stopped at the same point.

This isn't the first time I've seen it and it's happening with different motherboards and all Phenoms.
