My first chip seemed to have degraded after benchmarking at around 1.45vcore. But I can't define degraded.
The second one hasn't been over 1.3vcore and seems to be totally perfect, core temps are completely in sync, and they're scaling perfectly up and down with voltage adjustments.
The one I had jazzed the volts on was solid at first, but then after high vcore, Pll, vtt, nb, basically treating it like a e6000, it started to flake out. I had the 42c stuck core, the different vid, all that. But it could still do 4ghz @ 1.36v blend stable and seemed to perform perfectly well.
With the second one, I had a good idea that it was a good bacth so I decided to play it more careful. I looked at the intel specs and compared them to the headroom (over my vid) I allowed myself on the e6600 - up to 1.4v max. If I used the same percentage of headroom for the e8400 it came out to like 1.275v or something. So for this second one I'm giving it a max of 1.3v, but my 24/7 is at 1.28v.
Anyway, a long ramble but I wanted to share my experience in regards to what might or might not be damage to the chip. It seemed to be more of a damage to the sensor than to the performance of the chip.
Disclaimer - there's no logic to this, just oobservations. I think these chips are awesome if treated properly.
My "core" temps are stuck at 42*c idle, and on load one is 60*c while the other is 52*c.. its weird. Hard to say what to believe, while the "CPU" temp is 25*c idle and 43*C load, fluctuates accordingly to voltage changes and load.
Its all got me scratching my head, i'm running 1.28v (bios) for 24/7 use also
Lets just hope that the 3 year warranty doesn't come handy![]()

I must say, I'm extremely happy with this setup after switching from my x2 5600+ with a 0.2ghz overclock![]()
So much more fun with this chip!![]()

Looks like I got a serious dud. I'm up to 1.36v, and still can't get it stable at 4Ghz. Utterly disappointed
Also doesn't help that I'm experiencing vdroop at certain vcore settings:
E.g. up to about 1.306v (BIOS), I was getting rock steady vcore. However, upon raising it above that - say 1.318v, I was getting some vdroop during loads. It would drop around .012-.016; very disappointing. I'm thinking this may be linked to the BIOS, or could just be myty chip. I dunno.

vDrop ist for a reason, its not a bug, as many thinks!
There are articels as well here on XS, explaining this, and u can google for it, tech guys from brands saying its on purpose...
Then again, 1.4V still good to go with proper air cooling!
Give it more juice!!

Well my point was that I was consistently getting no vdroop up until a certain point, and then all of a sudden it started showing up. Thought it was a bit odd...maybe I should ask in the DFI thread though.
*and again, the VID has changed to 1.0375. *sigh*

Now wait a second!
What do you guys, mean of "dynamic vid"?
The voltage the CPU gets under idle or load state, and because there is vDrop, this voltage changes!
OR the actual VID, that Core Temp shows? If thats changing, if it shows different value from time to time?
Pls light me up!![]()

yes, coretemp will show different vids depending on load or idle on a few board, c1e/speedstep dependant.
example, mine shows 1.1125 when loaded, but 1.0375 when idle, when these settings are enabled in bios.
im getting idle temp of 16-18deg , 30 under load (35/35 - 49/49 underload for cthe cores)
is this possible at all...thats probably about the temp in this room
Core temp VID.
I have seen different VID's straight after a BIOS flash caused bye forgetting to disable C1E & EIST & I have seen different VID's when changing the same CPU between different board.
I had never noticed a VID change as a result of changing CPU vcore or overclocking etc until I put an E8400 in my DFI P35. When I noticed the VID change I rebooted to check my BIOS/CMOS settings to be sure C1E & EIST were disabled & they were, literally 10~15 minutes later my chip was dead.
