And yes to run this cpu/mem/mobo combo fully 3D stable with a mem reading above 10000Mb/s 1.5v is low (from MY point of view) and it is 24/7 settings. The processor can outlive me running like that everyday...

But once again if you ask me if I'm satisfied with the mobo entirely I'm not. Starting with the crazy volt readings and the quickie patch/crappy bios to fix it (1/11), going thru some cold boot issues (turns off and on and then needs reset from now and then). It's like buying an expensive new car and discover you have to spent 1 month in the dealership to fix pre-existent flaws.

Maybe with mature bios I will be more satisfied with it.

But I don't get the fuss about my posts, this does not even has anything to do with anything. Someone asked about opinions of the mobo/quad combo, and as a real user of 2 of those combos I gave my sincere opinion, unlike you guys...
For me it seemed as though you were complaining about what I would call an excellent OC. Now that you've explained it better I understand more.

I have pretty much the same issue. Since flashing to the 1/11 bios on cold boot it will start to load up, shut down and then restart and load. Over all though, I find the bios to be an improvement.

On both of the bioses on occation I have gotten the same thing after a bios save. I'm suspecting that this is built into the systems, maybe to insure stability after certain types of bios changes.

The only time I get a system freeze that requires a cold boot to start the system is after I've run it beyond what was stable.

None of these have gotten to the point that they're more than a minor annoyance

PS. Just to let you know, I always give my sincere opinion.

X38 is meant to start/shut off/ start again after stand by power loss. This is by design. If this happens without removing power, that is a different story and could be attributed to the bios loading last save bootable settings after an oc failure.

BTW, I have had my system freeze when loading a profile, after save and exit. Even when going to a stock settings profile.

Yeah! You know what I mean, this is abnormal for any board. Those problem's are the center of my frustrations with this board.

I forgot to add that my Vcore Vdrop Control also makes the board funny (unstable) when I enable it (and it should be the opposite when dealing with Intel cpu's).

I'm starting to miss my Nf2 days that I would solder the Pot on the board and when I set a voltage to be 3.3 or 3.45 it would stay there no matter what!

It must be an x38 issue, or even 4 memory slots full issue because I had the same issues with the blank screen on my maximus formula se.

If you enable droop control, then you are allowing it to droop. Since youre oc is so high, this can cause instabilities when you need more voltage that it can give when drooping. If you want to have your voltage lock on to 1.5v you need to disable droop control.

btw what kind of sound card do you have?

I have an auzentech prelude and I came across this at their site:

Q: When I install my sound card in my PCI slot, my computer boots up, but the monitor shows no display.
A: Your PC seems to be having difficulty recognizing your sound card. Try to remove and reinstall the driver while keeping the following suggestions in mind.
-Remove the sound card, then try cleaning the PCI connector with pencil eraser (do not leave a fingerprint).
    - Download the latest driver at our website.
-Try using a different PCI slot.
    - Your PC may find the new Device automatically.
    - Ignore the Hardware Wizard. Double Click the setup file in the driver folder.

Could be something, or then again, maybe not.

Then after reset the board can boot into Bios again.

    2) Sometimes the board will refuse to boot after a windows start>turn off> restart. It hangs in the blank screen needs a manual reset to get back;

    3) Sometimes the board makes bird noises when I reset her, sometimes it doesn't;

    4) Without touching any bios settings board shows different vcore volts and tends to lock in 1.5v after 4000Mhz even if I use 1.46v on Bios.

Maybe I got another faulty board like my 1st one, maybe it's just bios. And again like yours most of these strange behavior happens with stock or oc settings.

i had blank screens especially on re-start and sometimes from a cold boot...not until i increased the NB voltage up in the 1.65+ range did it solve that problem...don't know if that will solve the problem but do give it a try.

This is probably been asked before, but what's the max VTT and NB voltage I can safely run for a short period of time. Irrc 1.6v sounds right for the NB, but don't remember anything about VTT. This will be on a e8400 and will probably be using 1.3v for vcore.

Ok guys, all of this talk of freezing and black screens. I was fine, until I was hexed with all of this discussiom. lol. Now my problems are very substantial.

I recently up graded from my Q6600 to a QX9650.

My issue is this. When I purchased my new cpu, i just pulled the old one and booted up. It worked fine for 7 days. Matter of fact i was able to achieve the results in my sig effortlessy.

I decided to go back to stock. No reason really. Then my system started freezing at the booting progress bar (Vista ultimate x64). Then I tried going back to my stable oc, again, same thing booting while freezing.

I figured somethign was gimped so i tried to do a fresh install. Windows gets to the first reboot and then it freezes at the loading bar again. Every single freeking time.

I pulled the battery for a while, I have reset the cmos, I have disconnected the dvd-rw, I have tried a single new hd instead of my raid array. I have tried all combinations or ram down to one stick. Tried a different video card, different ram, dividers, voltages. You think of it, I have tried it. Nothing works. Always freezing.

One time, after having the pc off for a day, i was able to install windows, but then as soon as I get to the desktop, BAMN frozen. GEEZ.

So then I put my q6600 back in and what do you know? The problems go away.

Now, before you say that my QX9650 is fried, I am now typing with it in my asus maximus, with absolutely no signs of these issues at all. None. Zero. Nada.

So what is up? Is there an issue with the 1/11/08 bios? That is what I a running. I cant think of anything.

i was thinking of geting 2x 2x1gb kits for team group with 667mhz c3, is there any problems with it not working properly or foreseable conflicts that would couse problems

im thinking no but when the 1600mhz chips come out and the bios gets updated with their info (it already has the strap i cant see it not being in an update) would that get problems with no post

unable to install vista myself with a qx9650... works great until it boots to finish installing then freezes. basically the same as you described. I think it is more an operating system issue than bios since i can instal xp pro fine. I have tried to load vist no less than 5 times with no success. gets to the boot where it is supposed to finish installing and locks up. I had my 3870 x2 in so i swapped to a 3850 that worked during previous installs and had the same issue at the same point. also tried different ram, timings, voltages etc. always with the same result.

yes, i have problems with every combo, but I have two systems in my sig and all I did was swap processors and bam both working properly. kinda erks me though cause i dont want to part out my bits across both systems. I want this to be my main as its already set for water cooling.

Geez. I just want this stuff to work.

k guy, i just finished setting up my new board, and I go to turn the power on and bam, still has the exact same problem it had on the other board, except this time its a different motherboard...

Im not sure what I can do...

The problem is this: Every time I press the powerbutton, the system turns on but only for split second and then it goes off again. During this time all the fans come on, the poster LCD is off, and the yellow led by the ram slots flickers on then off again. The other yellow led is on at all times.

Any solutions? i know i heard that someone was having the same problem but im not sure what they did to fix it. this is a brand new board, idk what could have gone wrong.
