Thanks eva. I did try the first memory settings that you posted when I was still on the shipping bios. The system shut down and then gave C1 error and had to clear the cmos. I'll reread the thread you suggested and then isolate my memory to see what I can come up with. I'll check what I get with your final settings for the 1/11 bios. Thanks for your help.

Well, I have to say that these Ballistix 8500s are just great with this mb. Dropped the multi down to 8, 2/3 divider, increased the vdimm to 2.5v, and set the NB to 1.6v.

The only Dram timming settings I changed was the first 3 and then the clock crossing settings for fine delay.

This gave me 630 32M pi stable. Not as good as eva, but then, I'm not eva.

I did need a little more for what I wanted to run so I tried changing the Performance LVL (tRD) to 8. To my supprise this increased the stable Dram freq to 650 with just changing one setting. More than what I needed. I'll try tweaking more tomorrow. Love this board for ram.

Seems to be quite a common problem with board going above 450 FSB with a Q6600 without using insane voltage settings. On both the Asus Maximus and Blitz reaching 485 wasnt any problems but not on this board. if anyone is running alot higher FSB with their Q6600 and within acceptable voltage settings please post your bios templates.

I gues 1.39 Vcore is not enough for Quad to run @ 4Ghz+ everybody will need more for it except 45nm cpu's

no changes even if i bump it to 1.55 so 1.39 seems like a good spot for this nice cpu

i can do 1200 with 2.13v with ballistix n need 2.31v for mushkin xp2-8500 this board doesnt need as much as others for vdimm

No doubt. Even if I run 4.3G 24/7 all I'll need on the memory is 638. With a little more tweaking I should be able to get that with the 2.2v this memory is rated. I only threw 2.5v at it, because one of the reviews I read used that voltage for their max oc and wanted to see how far I could get. I have no idea atm how much of that 2.5v is even needed to get the 650. For all I know atm I was overvolting them and would have gotten more if I used 2.4v. I need to do a lot more testing and a lot more research. I'm pretty much a noob at Intel.

Now you're getting me worried... I have been priming 480 FSb with my Q6600 on the Abit IX38 and was using 470 24/7 - I was planning on 470*9 or something with my SS, and you say the board can't do it?
I only needed 1,36V VTT on the Abit...
Any chance you missed one of the 100+ settings in bios?

well after 2 diferent dfi's x38 and quads 6600's I must say this board is no better then a cheapo foxconn mars.
i love dfi but either their bios is crap or the entire project is faulty.

maybe its better of with the new cpus i dunno.

but I wouldn't buy or recommend one for quad combo.

You have a very good, oc there. I just dont understand how you could ask for more. You have oc'd a cpu well over 16oomhz above spec. At the same time, you have oc'd 4 sticks of ram well beyond their spec.

Please tell me what would make you happy? A P35? Because as far as any X38 board that exists, you are showing excellent results.

dfi is like driving a stickshift some people like everything on auto
i personally expected more performance but i think that will come with some bios updates
but i gotta say this is an extremely strong board just the fact that i can clock 4 sticks 1200+ 2.13v says it all to me

$300 is a lot for a mb and you expect it to be good, but not magical. A lot of this is cpu dependant as well. Many Q6600 will not do 4G on any board. Maybe your cpu would do better on another board maybe not, but weren't you the one who was excited about his low voltage overclock the other day.

Its the divider. If you want to run your mem close to 1000, try changing your fsb/multi to 450x8. then you can run 900 or 1086 on the memory. Alternately you can run 400x9, and try your memory at 1066.

    Very likely
which is why it would be interesting to see if someone could post their bios template with a high FSB for the Q6600 and without extreme voltage settings, seems to be a rare thing on this board though.

Well I never said I dislike my OC, on the contrary I'm all set with it and also running cool in the mid 20's idle and 30's when 3d gamming.

And yes to run this cpu/mem/mobo combo fully 3D stable with a mem reading above 10000Mb/s 1.5v is low (from MY point of view) and it is 24/7 settings. The processor can outlive me running like that everyday...

But once again if you ask me if I'm satisfied with the mobo entirely I'm not. Starting with the crazy volt readings and the quickie patch/crappy bios to fix it (1/11), going thru some cold boot issues (turns off and on and then needs reset from now and then). It's like buying an expensive new car and discover you have to spent 1 month in the dealership to fix pre-existent flaws.

Maybe with mature bios I will be more satisfied with it.

But I don't get the fuss about my posts, this does not even has anything to do with anything. Someone asked about opinions of the mobo/quad combo, and as a real user of 2 of those combos I gave my sincere opinion, unlike you guys...

Well, it has everything to do with the thread as it was not apparent why you were not satisfied with the board. Thanks for explaining.

Can you explain your cold boot issues a little more?

I have an issue that I am working through, at stock even, where it will boot several times fine, and then freeze on windows load for no apparent reason, requiring a reset. Usually after exiting the bios screen.

Sometimes I may even boot to the desktop with no display, again requiring a reset. That may be attributed to my G92 card or drivers though.

I dunno. Anyone else have these issues?

    Sure:

    1) 9 out of 10 times when I turn the pc for the 1st time and I try to get into BIOS it will freeze on with a blanck screen with that little blue stripe of the bios trying to kick in.
Then after reset the board can boot into Bios again.

    2) Sometimes the board will refuse to boot after a windows start>turn off> restart. It hangs in the blank screen needs a manual reset to get back;

    3) Sometimes the board makes bird noises when I reset her, sometimes it doesn't;

    4) Without touching any bios settings board shows different vcore volts and tends to lock in 1.5v after 4000Mhz even if I use 1.46v on Bios.

Maybe I got another faulty board like my 1st one, maybe it's just bios. And again like yours most of these strange behavior happens with stock or oc settings.

Ok, I experience these same issues. Overclocked or stock.

If I set a certain range on the vcore, for example 1.31 and raise incrementally, it stays at 1.31 for quite a few adjustments and then all of a sudden changes to a much higher vcore with nothing in between.

Sometimes I get that same blank screen, sometimes it boots to the desktop even with the blank screen and I get a windows failed to shut down properly message after reset. Sometimes it just freezes at a blank screen.
