Just got my x38-ds4 and e8400 in, downloading 45 vista updates ... i tried to run core temp but it says it need s a digitaly assigned driver, so maybe these updates will fix it?

it looks like bios is reporting the temp right for me, it has 24-26*c depending on what i set the fan speed to

i'll post some results up in a bit

EDIT: i need help, all the temp monitoring programs still say they need a signed driver, what do i need to get?!

I think you need to turn off the need to have a signed drivers in Vista, I'm not sure there are signed drivers for the free download programs? I don't envy you trying to get your computer or the programs to work with Vista. I fought with Vista tooth and nail for several months, it was an extremely frustrating experience. I have gone back to XP Pro and haven't thought about my O/S since.

I think the days of Prime stability ended quite a while ago. Not only is it no longer the definitive test of stability any longer but its extremely hard on the board and components to constantly be hammered like that.
Out of curiousity, have you used your ICFX3200 to test one of the procs in the thread? I'm interested in whether it supports them. Thanks.

No way I am gonna stick with this clock 24/7, but I wanted to see what my chip could do.

If you're running 64bit Vista you need to hit F8 when Vista starts to load and then disable signature checking or something like that. It should solve your problem.

What was the highest voltage you ever saw in CPU-Z when testing? Did you ever go over 1.45 volts even briefly?

Part of the problem might be the FSB Termination voltage. The Intel spec for these new CPUs is only 1.1 volts +/- 5% so the max is 1.155v. Some of the older boards can't get down this low even at the lowest bios setting. What is your setting for this?

I mentioned this in another thread but it needs to be said again. Here's what the Intel datasheet says about core voltage:

2.6.1 Absolute Maximum and Minimum Ratings

Table 3 specifies absolute maximum and minimum ratings only and lie outside the functional limits of the processor. Within functional operation limits, functionality and long-term reliability can be expected. At conditions outside functional operation condition limits, but within absolute maximum and minimum ratings,

Intel defines Absolute Maximum core voltage for these new 45nm chips as 1.45 volts. That number is not necessarily a safe 24/7 voltage. At 1.45 volts you are "outside the functional limits of the processor" and "neither functionality nor long-term reliability can be expected."
1)I tried 1.33V for 4050 but it was no go
2)So i kept my 1.3V and lower to 3950. Prime still no go.
3)I did not went over 1.45V. And this voltage for 4.5GHz was only for one hour benching session.
    4) I have the Maximus formula. I kept these settings in 24/7 and in benching
PLL was minimum to 1.5 but mobo overvolts to 1.6
FSB Termination to 1.2 but mobo undervolts to 1.1 because of Wolfdale. With
my E6750 previously 1.2 was 1.2 no undervolting. That means that Formula
has considered the right FSBTermination for Wofdales.
5)Since first day i was running at 1.3@4050 and after the benching session i had
    the degrade.

Conclusion for me:all wolfdales that needs low voltage at start will degrade and reach those that are not good overclockers (e.g. 1.45V@4GHz) even at low voltages.Even if i have not raised the vcore to 1.45 i would still have the degrade in my opinion.

To sum up in order to bench at 4500@1.45V

    E8200

    Here is mine, FPO Q746A513.
It can do 8*480MHz (3.85GHz) @ 1.272V, tough on the screen its 1.288V but now at this moment I am running prime again with 1.272V...

Its a shame, I wasnt able to stabilize 8*500MHz, even with 1.368V under load, which is 1.384V idle, from BIOS 1.4250 coz' if vdrop...
I didnt want to push it more...

I also raised NB voltage to 1.55V, no help, SB to 1.60V no help...
WinXP loads up fine, AND IF CAN GET to desktop I can run Prmie95 or ORTHOS for gours, no error, no freeze, temp max 65 celsius, SEEMS fine...

BUT after a reboot, 3 out of 5 times when login screen comes up, i type my password, hit enter, and it stops there! Doesnt lock up, just slows down... it takes about 3 mins to get to desktop, but I can only see background, no start menu no icons...
Mouse still works, num-lock led active, so its not frozen but still, something wrong....
Could be this my mobo...? Cant handle 4GHz OR its my CPU...
As u can see it handles 8*480 absolutely stabel, 12+ prime95 small fft's test ran fine...
    Any idea?

On my Abit IP35 Pro to get RAM stable using 8x CPU multi at 1:1 512 FSB I had to up MCH voltage to 1.37, might even have to up it one step more, need to check. Wasn't any probs with 9x CPU multi using ram multiplier x1.2 with a lower FSB to get the RAM running at up to DDR2-1150 speeds without having to up the MCH voltage though.

    Most of IP35Prot for 500 1:1@2x1GB fsb needed 1.41volt.
    For 510 1.48volts for 526fsb 1.56 and so on.
With 5:6 divider 1.41 is needed for 450 fsb.

I get this to when I was trying for 538x8 super pi run with my 700MHz capable mem's. XP loads, then just hangs with desktop back ground. I'm not sure why, coz I don't understand this Asus board.

So what do you think? It is the CPU, not enough juice or the mobo?

I have a question. What is more important to performance? FSB and Rated FSB or The actual clock?

I'm wondering because I think I can go a lot further on my chip if I put my chip back at 9 mult and 1.45 vcore.

I have to say that even at 3Ghz this chip is much much better than the Pentium D 3.2 Ghz that it replaced.

On another note I found out something weird on my motherboard that lets me know if a clock works or not. When my comp starts, if it hitches and then continues during the mem test, then I know the overclock won't work.

i think im in love, im running orthos at 1.28v @ 4.0ghz (only about 30mins in so far though)

My bios seems to be reporting the correct temps, they fluctuate perfectly. So it looks like im getting 43*c load and bout 25*c idle. I'll post some screen shots up in a bit
