    G.Skill announces 4GB DDR2-1066 kit

    G. Skill has just come out with the new 4GB DDR2-1066 kit. This is also at the same 5-5-5-15 timings and 2.0-2.1 volts. The big difference is that this is uses a 8 layer PCB rather than the 6 layer one used by the DDR2-1000 kit so this kit might have a little bit higher overclocking.

Only bad thing is I don't see them in stock anywhere yet.

This sounds interesting. I still don't have a 2x2GB kit, and there are kits announced like every second day, so I think I will wait for some kits to become available here in Germany.

In stock (20+ on hand) at NCIX.com. I was thinking about some 2x2GB sticks and pulled the trigger on them. Only place in North American that has them, $154 not to bad of a price. Plus I've been happy with my HZ's.

I have a set of the 8000's and although they have very little overclocking or tightening headroom, they do perform as stated. The set I have does not make 1066 though. PowerChip IC's.

I'll buy a set of these new 1066's and see if they have any play room.

Knowing G.skill, even with 8 layer these will prob be priced a bargain next to what any other brands take on it would be. Atleast it could drop the 1000 kits.

I am most interested in the max working clock for 8GB configuration.

From my experience, G.Skill PC8000 generally cannot be expected to work at 1000MHz then 8GB is installed, at least on Intel P35.

Nah, that's not the RAM that suddenly realizes it has more sticks plugged in and clocks worse, that's your board that doesn't like to clock with all that RAM dragging it down.

Doesn't really matter, memory cannot be used without boards anyway.
The problem i am talking about is rather subtle and will hardly manifest itself in normal situations. I cant get enough passes in Linpack 64bit without failure, it can be lower than 1 in 100 passes, but happens anyway. I really hate this.

I have 8 kits for 32GB total, all of them are the same. 4GB works (i hope, have not really done any extensive testing), 8GB does not work.

I have 4 ASUS P5K-Pro boards and have also tried on Gigabyte GA-P35-D3SP which is even worse.

Either P35 cannot handle 8GB at DDR2-1000 speed ( never mind DDR2-1066) or
this memory is just not good enough.

Supposedly PowerChips. I just bought and installed. They run fine at stock. I'll test them on the upclock later on.

Tested at stock 1066 with 5-5-5-15 and it works fine with 2.0v. It does not allow any tightening of the timings even when I add +.1 or +.2v. Possibly there will be some more bandwidth but I only tested tightening. Tried 5-4-4-12 with added volts but no goodness. Still, a good set for 4GB.
