F8b is OK, I'm using it for a while.

Better than F7? If so, to what extent? More stable? More performance? You can get tighter memory timings are lower voltage? What have you noticed so far? Sorry, many questions, but I usually wonder about that many things and more before risking a BIOS flash.

    Thanks again.

    Interesting.

And I see we both have the same memory (well, I've read that the Tracer variant is a little better than the non-Tracer). You're running the main timings at 5-5-4-12 at 2.2V. In my case, as soon as I dare touching a single of those timings it refuses to post. I'm trying to reach the famous 4-4-4-12 at 2.2V or 2.3V that so many have claimed to be possible with those Ballistix memory sticks, but I have yet to POST at 5-5-5-14... still at 2.2V (more precisely 2.25V).

One strange thing though... I can set the Performance Level to 5 and it's rock stable 9 hours in Orthos and 6 hours in MemTest. Most people can't even POST at a PL of 7, much less at 6. And I believe that changing the Performance Level yields more performance than changing CL from 5 to 4, or any of the other three main timings. So I'm not sure what to do...

    I wouldn't advise trying to flash a DS4 with a DQ6 bios.

    Ok, GTL_1 and GTL_2.

With GTL_1 @ +3% the system freeze when runing In Place FFTs.. All other settings makes 1 core fail, but the system doesn't freeze. On AUTO it's completely stable. Just to remember the default option is "NORMAL"..and not "AUTO".

The GTL_2 has the options -3%, -6% and -9%. Didn't test too much but don't really see any difference.

And about DDR_REF, MCH_REF and another REF that I don't remember now...What would be better? Played with it a little but don't see any improvements..

Oh, another question..what's TRD Phase adjust? I know TRD = Performance Level....But don't know about phase adjust.
When using TRD = 8 the motherboard only boots with TRD Phase Adjust 8 or more, or NORMAL.

    Ok, I'll breath now

TRD is a based on an equation. Its a function of the FSB and the strap beeing used. In most cases it seems a very high FSB does not help performance. If you have a CPU with unlocked multi, it seems 400FSB is the best setting in most cases, as you get to use the best straps at TRD5.

An overview of what TRD's are available at each strap under various FSB speeds here:
(also suggest reading the entire article)
    http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3208&p=9

Remember that the auto-setting for TRD is still somewhat buggy on these boards. So set it manually according to the list above. Also, remember that the settings described here are the maximum allowed settings. You need to have memorysticks that are able to handle these, aswell as alot of voltage to the MCH. I recommend a setting of +0.275 to the MCH to reach these and be stable.

TRD Phase is used to set a different TRD on each memory channel. For example, if youre at an FSB that makes TRD6 unstable on both sticks, you can run one on TRD6 and the other on TRD7. There is a table somewhere on the web that explains each of the 31 phase-settings gigabyte uses for this. Asus enthusiast boards have far better bios options for TRD-phase tweaking in my opinion. The Gigabyte one is rather cryptic and strange.

F8c is interesting. I hope theyve done a better job of implementing the 266 2.5A strap, as it should be very useful if working correctly.

    Ok so F8c is bonked.

It has trouble autodetecting what settings to use for my ocz flex'es, even at default settings. had to boot up using some old ram that was autodetected differently and flash back to F7.

Once they get it right though, things are gonna get nice indeed.

i want to work 24/7 either 9x400 (4:5) , or 8x450 (5:6) with as much less as possible vMCH with as tight tRD as possible (i dont intend to put mega volts to get -1 tRD ) but these 2 days i feel real desparate to such point to throw the mobo from the window... If anyone kind enough can post some stable setting with "good" tRD at 8x450 or 9x400 i'd be gratefull

You most likely need more voltage to the memory. See if 2.3V is stable. Also, set Performance Enhance to standard while doing this testing. Your memory is definately not going to be able to reach the TRD's in the article above because they're rated too low, and because you have 4 of them. I think 400 FSB and the 2.0B strap is the way to go for you. TRD8 is probably going to be max. Realize though that +0.250 or so shouldnt be a problem with the stock cooling solution on the board. you're going to need atleast that to get a decent TRD.

The two major settings that influences memoryspeed on this board is TRD and Performance Enhance. Once you get stable at Standard, try Turbo, and then Extreme. Extreme should put your latencies down to a pretty nice value even at 800mhz CL4.
