when porting/modding the outlet do you port through the entire barb?

any progress with porting/modding on the inlet side?
I did slightly bore out the outlet barb.

My pressure only max head testing and experimenting tells me the smaller inlet provided slightly better maximum head, not sure on max flow rate.

I would recommend leaving the inlet alone and only porting the outlet.

My next round of experiementing with the D5 will be a custom top. I'm in the process of choosing tools to start some custom waterblock and pump top experiments, and first order will be a small milling machine.

If I go ahead with the rotarty table addition I should have what I need to make a nice custom top for the D5.

Not sure what if any more I'll squeeze out of the D5, but my goal is to push the curve upward as well for more pressure. It's already apparent to me with the port mod that some untapped efficiencies exist, but I'm uncertain what if any pressure improvements I can make. It seems to me many of the tolerances are a bit more sloppy than they could be so I'm crossing my fingers.

    Also FYI,
I did talk with swiftech's testing guy, they mentioned a while back that they will test the basic model, but have not to that point and still have not mentioned anything since that time.

Soo...from my test results and per Laing's documentation:

THE D5 "BASIC" is stuck at SETTING 4!

I just wish the vendor sites or someone selling this stuff would acknowledge the pumps do not perform the same. I'm a bit peeved myself that the specs do not note this difference and I'm now stuck with a setting 4 pump. Everything I can read on the vendor websites would completely mislead you into thinking the basic is every bit as good. While the basic is a fine pump, nothing except Laing's brochure notes there is a performance difference...

if it is stuck then maybe it can be modified internally (in the electrics bit) I don't mind running a basic on setting 5 if it saves me money !!

There is already a thread attempting to find out how to mod a D5 basic to a Vario : http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=175275

    MARTIN!!!

why else you think i would send you a TON of h2o gear for you to run tests on?

I dont trust any manufactorer. Hell, even in cars, ive never gotten anywhere near the MPG posted on the MSRP sticker.

I dont know how people drive cars like that to get the MPG listed.

But thanks for your effort. You just saved me a couple hours of work pulling the system apart and smooth boring that outlet. Now seeing how its almost 0 gain, i'll pass.

Oh my pumps are vario. You should of told me you wanted one. I would of swaped a DDC2.0 spare i had for a couple of weeks to loan you the D5-Vario.

    Smile max head dump

I have reed all posts till last one, and I`m realy thing that the real problem with the pomp is positioning of the outlet barb. Whay this outlet have Z curve? Petra`s top eliminate L inlet curve and resolve debit restriction and rase max head of DDC model. The power of MCP 655 is quite impressive and obviosly has a potential to do mutch more than 4.2m head. I think that effort of moding must be heading to eliminate Z curve of the outlet barb. This will be not so easy redesigning that shape.

Why not just use the Laing D5 Strong?
