hey, what exactly does the 2602 bios have/do that 2504 doesn't? asus says it adds support for new cpu's, but they don't show any new cpu's in the support list...

quick question, has anyone here tried to use both PCI-E video slot without using the crossfire function? Meaning using 2 video cards at the same time under Vista, so i can have 3 monitors hook up for games? Any performace impacts?

    Thanks

P5W DH is a very fine board for dual-core chips, but you'll need motherboards with P35 or X38 chipset to really make your quad-core shines.

I have the rev. 1.02 board for well over a year now and it has no problem running well over 400 fsb on an e6400 and e6600. My B0 Q6600 reached a max of 390-ish but 335 is the best I could do to make it Prime95 stable.
I'm sure make users here will agree with me that i975 isn't particularly friendly with quad-core CPUs.

But if yours is indeed stable @ 3.6, then congradulation !!!
Agree, 975x generate more heat than P35 when oc'ing a quad, but I am sure everyone will agree this is a great board nonetheless.

No worries, those numbers are more than enough for me - If you take the CPU overclock out of the equation they look pretty even. Which makes it even harder to make a decision .

    The choice is:

    1. Another 2900xt for crossfire.

    2. 2 x 3870's

    or

    3. 3870x2

I hope to keep this mobo until at least September so 2 X 3870's seems the best choice.

I'd really really really....like to get 2 x 3870x2 but as the P5W is lacking PCIE 2.0 I don't think CrossfireX would run on it as the cards would be running 8x / 8x - Each GPU would run at 4x That just screams bottleneck at me but I had a Google around and there's been no mention of CrossfireX on 975x/P965.

Hi. I've searched and read for tips over the months on oc'ing my E6400 with DDR2 800 patriot ram (4-4-4-12 2.2v) and have had limited success trying to get the ram to run 1:1 at it's 400 mhz (ddr2800). So I recently loaded up bios 2504 and decided to make one last effort to reach that goal.

First, is it uncommon to set the DRAM Freq to 400 so that the ram will 1:1 with the E6400? I've tried various bios setups. The highest overclock I could get was with the CPU frequency set to about 360. SO I read about enabling SPD to overcome that 360 barrier, which I did, even got the machine to post, but couldn't get it to load windows. Could that be an overheating issue?

Right now, i'm booted up at a CPU freq of 375, giving me a clock of 3ghz (375x8), but with SPD still enabled, CPUZ is saying the memory timings are at 5-6-6-18! So I dunno, it's time to seek experienced help I guess. I was expecting SPD to set the timings as low as possible for any FSB under 400mhz. So the CPU clock is great, but i'm not where i want to be in terms of the memory, but if i take it off SPD, i can't post.

Temps seem ok- CoreTemp says cpu is 38-40 degrees, TJunction is 85 degrees. Or is that high...hm.

    Other voltage settings: mCH-1.55, FSB-1.4, ICH-1.05, Memory 2.2v, CPU 1.375v

    Thanks for any suggestions.

IS this the only fix for this? Changing the SATA HDD to other header doesn't work for me. I have an external HDD and if I turned that on everything works, but I think I paid to much for this mobo to have to do this crap just to work properly.

go into bios, go to "ide configuration" on the first screen, and set "IDE detection timeout" to 0 or 5.

Has anyone gotten an E8400 to work with a P5W? I got my E8400 in today and decided I'd try it in my p5w since I'm not getting my new dfi dk p35 for a couple weeks. The bios I was using was 2504 and I just couldn't get things going with the E8400. It would post fine and I could work in the bios with no problem at all, but booting into windows was a different story. Windows would load but before my startups were finish loading the computer would reboot. In the bios it showed the default cpu voltage of 1.17 and I'm pretty sure that's pretty low.

I decided to up the voltage a bit and found that the lowest voltage I could set was 1.375 so I decided to give that a try. Again, it booted into windows and then rebooted. I go back into the bios to find the cpu voltage showing 0.98.

I went to the asus site and they show that the E8400 should work with 2504. Do you guys think I should wait for my dfi board to get here or should I give it another try using bios 2602?

Is there a card reader on your usb printer maybe? This happened to me when I had a USB HP printer/scanner if I left an SD card in the slot at boot up. Can't check it though as the printer now resides in a landfill somewhere!

I get the same problem when my printer is turned on because it has a card reader built into it. If the printer is turned on, the computer will hang at the same point . It will continue to boot when I turn the printer off. It's crazy, but it's the truth.

For those of you wanting to know about the E8400 and bios 2602 - I'm going to try it when I get home after work. I didn't feel like messing with it any longer last night after I had put my e6600 back in. I'll update you all later today and let ya know the results with 2602.

Ah I'm getting really pissed off

    I have a P5W DH 1.04G and an E6420, and before, because of heat issues i wouldn't go over 3.4Ghz with it (425 * 8). I had an old Zalman 7000B CU.

I just recently bought a Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme, and obviously all my heat problems are over.

But that also showed me that my board won't go over 428 FSB no matter what I do! Vmch is already at max (1.8v) and it's cooled properly.

What else could I do to try and take it higher? Do any of the other voltage options matter?

My mem sticks can go up to around 1000 easily.

It's also not a processor issue. This very same processor used to run at 3.8Ghz (475 * 8) at a P5B Deluxe before I put it in my mobo.

    Could anyone help?
    Thanks in advance

    Hey, Khalmyr

Alot of mobos are diff i found that i cant bring my 6750 past 3.6Ghz without crashing and thats with the 450FSB wall. And my voltage is upthere but i got proper cooling which makes me sleep better.

Im running 3.6 stable... But if i go 1FSB higher i go BSOD. And thats with my voltages up there and tried every setting possible.

And this CPU i had it past 4Ghz on a Maximus Formula SE. Friend let me play with his mobo while he was waiting for his wolfdale.

well, 450FSB is already better than 428.

I'm very frustrated that even though I bought a new cooler i can't overclock any further than what i already did.

any special adjustments to be able to use 450FSB 24/7?

I've P5W DH Deluxe and an E6600 running at 340x9= 3060MHz with stock volt, Orthos stable... and I want to go higher but, if i go any higher it results in BSoD :/ I've read the thread and I wonder if you guys have any tips for me?

The cooling isn't a problem, I've a Scythe Ninja which's cooling my E6600 and the temps is like, 25/40 which isn't bad? And yes, I'm running latest BIOS...

    So, any tips?

    Sorry no tips but,
Same here with a Q6600, I can run at 350 and 4X prime stable but using winrar over the network produces CRC errors with large files. Beyond 350 is problems all over. 340 is the highest that I can run flawless.

Update: E8400 with bios 2602 -- No go for me :(

I tried my E8400 again last night with bios 2602 and got the exact same results as I did with 2504. It would boot with no problem at all but reboot just after loading windows. I put my e6600 back in and all is well.

Do you guys think it has anything to do with the revision of the board? I don't remember the exact revision of mine but it only goes to 1.65 for the NB. The chip information reported is accurate, but when loading all bios defaults and then looking at the reported cpu voltage in the bios it reads at 1.75. The lowest voltage available for me to choose is 1.375 and I know that this is WAY off.

    Any ideas?

Anyone else having temperature reading issues with latest bios (2602)?
Last weekend I upgraded to 2504(?), and after doing so my CPU case temp went up from 36 to 42 C (C2D E6600). I thought I had high temperature before, considering I'm still at stock clock but now it's ridiculous. The core temp hasn't changed though, it's still 50-52C (which is pretty high too isn't it?). So I thought this was something that came with 2504, but after flashing to 2602 the issue is still there..... anyone else seen this?

Btw, what's the highest clock anyone reached on stock voltage for my kind of cpu (E6600 C6 stepping B2)???

i run 355 24/7 and i'm going higher when i get better cooling...
what i don't understand is how all you guys are having problems above a certain point... do you have the pci-e locked?
