    Nvidia's First 171.16 Betas

    As we all know, the alphas of these drivers leaked a few weeks ago for XP 32-bit and Vista 32-bit only.

    Now we have complete sets, 32-bit and 64-bit flavors.

    From what I can see, The main thing for these drivers is Support for the 8800GT 1GB and the 9600GT.

    NVIDIA_G92.DEV_061A.1 = "NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700"
    NVIDIA_G94.DEV_0622.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT"
    NVIDIA_G98.DEV_06E2.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8400"
    NVIDIA_G98.DEV_06E4.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS "

    Also there is signs there will be 8800GTS (G92) with 1GB Memory in this line of code
    NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0600.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512/1024"
    Please note these have not been tested at all from any of my sources. So if you would test them, Please compare them to the 169.32s and see how they perform.

    Windows XP 32-bit
    Windows XP 64-bit
    Windows Vista 32-bit
    Windows Vista 64-bit

    Enjoy!

    There needs to be a happy median.

    ATI can't release drivers for already publicly available products.
    NVIDIA releases a surplus of drivers for future products.

    Hopefully they get driver recovery fixed in Vista x64. If OC testing, and the driver stops responding, it will try to get itself back running, but it will BSOD vista while trying. That, or if you have a 3d game/app running while having a video overlay (live tv in WMC in my case) the same will also happen. Of course, i won't lay 100% of the blame on Nvidia for vista BSODing until I have some drivers from Creative that aren't 1.5 years old.

    EDIT. Slooooooooow DL here. 23kbps

    Will test it the next days.

    Thumbs up

    The cliffs for the people that are too lazy to try them:

    - these drivers run the fan at 100% all the time
    - these drivers have some major changes in the control panel
    i) there is a restore button for the global settings, as well as each of the profiles
    ii) there is a new entry in global settings called "Maximum pre-rendered frames", default is set to 3. I have no idea what it does.

    I am running them now, everything is the same if not better than 169.28 and 169.32. I especially like the restore button, its been a long time coming. Bottom line, try these out

    Thanks I was surprised too... I was looking at an old bench with 163.69s and that was 22324... so after 50 driver releases they only got 400 points, then they come out with this one and get a nice 750 point boost.

    Edit: I fixed the fan issue by going into rivatuner and resetting the fan that way.

    I tried 3D01 and AM3 with these Vs the 169.21 and got no difference at all. At least they're not worse!

    Exactly what it says.

    It means the GPU can only render X number of frames ahead of what is being outputted to the monitor. Heard of tripple buffering? Basically pretty darn close but not quite identical.

    really going to depend on the rendering engine of the game. Anything more than 5 is probably useless on games with decent physics.

    So for Crysis leave the settings alone? What about 2142?

    This is an old setting. More pre-rendered = more mouse lag. So, 2 or 3 is the standard setting.
