has anyone had problems with their ram on 780i's yet? my 4x1gig OCZ 1066,mhz SLI's wont boot if set properly but my $16 1gig of generic 800mhz clocks mad. i keep getting A0 post error.

4x1gig 1066mhz ocz sli
1-3 8800gtx's
2 wd raptors and 1 wd 1tb

need anything else?

EDIT: i have run both the P02 and the P03 bios and get the same problems.

most of the time it will not finish POST and hangs. other times it BSOD's before windows loads. this is at stock settings, not OCed at all. with my OCZ's on the board it wont run at all. they are micron D7's. they work fine on my 680i and can OC to 1230mhz fine. i have done memtest on all 4 sticks and nothing is found to be wrong.

i think i have the same ram as you (http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...n_dual_channel) and im having problems with it too but not as serious. for me windows boots fine, but when i enable sli my games keep crashing. and thats only with 4gb - with 2gb everything works great sli and non sli.

yeah my second 780i did that same thing. this is my 4th one now and all have had problems. im tired of this board. i want 790i NOW. they should let me upgrade to the 790i seeing how many problems i've had on the 780i's.

you mean EPP? they run the same both on or off with 1, 2, or 4gig's. wont boot into windows and mostly hangs on POST.

no i meant with your 2nd 780i board. you mentioned you had the same problem as me.

I've had all kinds of problems with my Dominator 1066 ram on the 780i, but my OCZ 800, OC to 900 runs like a charm. For some reason it doesn't seem to like 1066 ram, even onXP 32 with 2 megs. At first I thought it was the Dom. ram, but from the looks of things it's across the board with 1066.

I love the board though, very impressed. Got my QX9650 up to 4.4 Ghz, no problem.

hmm.. i cant get my qx9650 stable at 4ghz. are you using air cooling? what are your settings?

thanks i will try that out. isnt a vcore of 1.425 kinda high? i thought most ppl had it stable at 4gh around 1.36 or so.

I can run the vcore at 1.3 for 4.0gHz if all i'm doing is superpi or something, but I've found this is what it needed for an overnight run of prime95 small fft's, and with vdroop the actual voltage is alot lower, this board has lots of drop.

Each CPU is diff, I'm sure there's alot of better 9650's that mine, this is just my case.

yeah i noticed how bad the vdroop is. i set my vcore at 1.3625 and while running prime cpuz/everest report vcore at ~1.27. whats the maximum voltage the 9650 is rated for by intel?

It seems that I'm having some luck with the MCP temp as it has stayed at 54c.
All the voltages are on Auto but I set the SLI Ready Memory to Max.
This test is on air but I'll soon put the mb in my case and hook up the water.

How did you get all the temp readings in your Everest - I only have "Motherboard" (which is usually only 7C), GPU and Hitachi??? I have the Free version of Everest - is yours the full version?

Thats with the ram timings and voltages being set 5-5-5-15-2T manually and the voltages at 2.3? Not using EPP/SLI-Ready function?

yes, timings are at 5-5-5-15-2T and voltage is currently at 2.2 but i have tried it at 2.3 and that didnt help so i brough it back down to 2.2. and im not using the EPP/SLI ready function either because i cant - for some reason the mobo doesnt detect it as sli ready so i dont have that option anyway.

Looks like one of your modules lost EPP settings.Run CPU-Z and check SPD tab to see timings for all of your modules.You might find that EPP timings on some of your modules are all messed up.Here is how mine looked when that happened to me.



Notice EPP timings on the screen shot on the far right hand side.

If that's the case you can you can use this tool to correct EPP timings http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=20349 .That's what helped me when my memory was not showing as SLI ready.

well this is interesting. i looked in the SPD tab like you said and in the timings table only the first two columns have values. they are:

1st column:
Freq: 200 MHz
Cas Latency: 3
RAS to CAS: 3
RAS Precharge: 3
tRAS: 9
tRC: 11
Command Rate: No value
Voltage: 1.8

2nd column:
Freq: 266 MHz
Cas Latency: 4
RAS to CAS: 4
RAS Precharge: 4
tRAS: 12
tRC: 15
Command Rate: No value
Voltage: 1.8

All 4 slots show the exact same values. Also, in the table above the timings for the part number it says: OCZ25331024V.

however the part number should be: OCZ2N1066SR2GK
i bought 2 sets of the above from here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227181 and the stickers on the actual ram have the correct part number and it looks like the one pictured also.

it doesnt look like the part number it thinks it is: http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...0_value_series so im not sure whats going on. ill try that spdtool you mentioned.

edit: i ran the spdtool and it also displays the incorrect part number.

all you have to do is erase it with some iso rubbing alcohol.

cool. i was very hesitant at first but i think im gonna have to do the mod. i finally got my system stable at 3.6 (25 hours small ffts) with vdroop. but when i try doing 400x10 the longest prme has gone was about 7 minutes. and that was with vcore set to 1.4375. and that ended up dropping to 1.34 or something under load which is pretty crazy.

edit: so im looking at the pic from the first page, and i noticed that its from a 680i thread. are those resistors in exactly the same place on 780i? also do i need to do the vcore 50k also, what is that for? and i just wanted to clarify the actual mod - i take a #2 pencil and draw a line between the two red dots on the vdroop resistor, correct? what about on the vcore resistor, it only shows one red dot.
