mains location variation screwed my overclock
hello
i recently changed location /power source for my PC. i connected up my machine to the new mains socket and my overclock failed on prime ..ooh nooo i damaged my computer in transit perhaps?? i alter the voltages up on cpu and nb fsb ...down and up . still failed sometimes fast or somtimes at 1hr 30mins aprox ...so finally i change the fsb a few notches down to 402fsb instead of 406...and the overclock worked fine. weird...i had it set great before...it's as if the the mains power over here is slightly different?. i thought the psu on my machine would prep the power source for me and make it sweet? it must have just moved me into a dead spot with those settings.
just thought id mention ...worth checking your overclock each time you switch power source location perhaps!!??!!

Yes Maybe it's Everest related, my temps are high according to coretemp and everest core temps , but in opposite diodes reading temp from MB in bios or this one you are looking at in everest - are very low. The first temp is with internal sensor the second with external..you see the differences, with higher clocked overvolted low NanoMeter technology processed processor differences become greater![]()

1) I think the RAID setup remains. If you flash, I think your setting change back to default, but the RAID setup is also on the disks, so it detects it back again.
2) I used 2 x 2GB in mine, with no problems (I had other issues not RAM related). they were OCZ 6400 - 800Mhz sticks.
3) I think a 550 is enough unless you have more than one video card. I was running 4Gb and 4 drives with a 450W.

temps up average 5 degrees from orignal location from ranges 54 -59 (old location ) to 59 -64 (new location) and would not overclock , had to lower the fsb a few notches AND lower the voltage of the cpu one notch!!. works o.k now tho .was very scary i tried everythng finaly the fsb , pheww. i must have been balancing on a knife edge at the most extream points of testing in the old location even tho i was at 9 hours primed. maybe that slight temp pushed it over the edge ..so new overclock setting were needed. oh well all's o.k now (touch skull). peace

HIya guys.
I just got the X38-DQ-6 to run a pair of 3870 X2 on and went through 60 pages of this thread and was a little surprised to see no one posting up a template for the BIOS settings. I read a lot of discussion and lot of screenshots but no template for the settings that work.
I am pretty handy with DFI and Asus BIOSes but this one is leaving me a bit mystifed.
I am seeing these huge OCs and high FSBs so it would appear that it is possible to get the board to perform.
I spent about 6 hours so far and although I could get it to boot into Vista at 3.6 (9 x 400) I could not get it stable enough to run the marks.
I am using a proven g0 Q6600 that hit 4 ghz on my X38 Maximus SE...
Would someone please just post up the pertinent settings that they tweaked to get a stable 3.6
Preferably text..
Thanks in advance![]()

It's in German, but there are screens of various bios settings for Q6600 overclocking, have a good snoop on that page and you'll find what you need.

Guys. since Station-drivers has been down for weeks now....can anyone direct me to a more recent build of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager?
I have the lastest one from the official Intel site, but looking for something more recent, as in beta builds etc.?

I'd almost given up on my GAX38DQ6 as it just seemed a useless board to OC no matter what I did, I was about to sell it on (not now)
Finally seen what was in front of me all the time the D setting in the memory section, I'd been using A all the time, as soon as I used the D option the board is finally flying.
Currently running my Q6600 GO B stepping @ 3.60GHz 400x9 2.66D memory 1066 5.5.5.13 timings passed SuperPi 32M without a problem and PCMark05, will do some more testing tomorrow now its started to work for me, if all ok then this should be my 24/7 setting.
Got it to boot into Windows at 444x9 and ran SP32M but then second time I did the test it crashed and now won't pass the test again on same settings, didn't want to go too crazy on the voltages yet but I'm pretty sure I can get it stable @4GHz at least for testing.

Cheers for the tip I'll give that a go in a short while.
I've just taken delivery of Twin2X4096-6400C5DHX memory which I was plannning on using when gaming in Vista, but can't yet get board to boot at all, the best it did was get to main default screen after BIOS reset with battery out, but that only lasted for a couple of seconds, then nothing happened just recycling boots.
Tried 1 stick at a time - no luck either - currently F7 BIOS not sure if its got problems with 2x2GB sticks, I thought there were some issues with 4x modules, but mine was fine with 4x 1GB XMS 6400 C4.
I'll try the memory in one of my other PCs and see if it works in that, once I've sorted this issue out it'll be time to start tweaking again with the Dominator memory.
Well the 2x2GB sticks were dead, last time I use the company they came from.
Tried them on the DQ6, a P5WDH, and Commando all do the same thing, 1 stick allows board to power up, but then the fans just spin, the other will sometime get to fist bios screen and then lock up.
Back to the Dominator memory now and start trying to get it stable at a higher speed.
Finally back on track, so far have dropped the tras to 15 until I'm happy with everything else.
Have it stable at 420x9 using the 2.4b mem strap.
Have run 32M superpi, will run Orthos later for a few hours.
Also need to see how far I can take the cpu voltage down from where I have it set now 1.45

hmm i also have to look under my stickers now, cause the my X38T has the exact same stickers.
edit:
jup, the same, i got mine just right befor christmas.
its a X38/x48 hybrid.
but the northbridge is definitly a x38.
i think gigabyte anticipated that the x48 would be available earlier.
edit2:
if you really gona try to flash a x48 bios an that board, im curious about the results, keep us updated.![]()

this is maybe a clue that the X38 and X48 are actually THE SAME BOARD?! lol.
