Hello,
I have a general question. I see that a many people are overclocking their QX9650 to 4GHz or over. I have been thinking about going for 4GHz. I understand that it will require a voltage of at least 1.40 or a little higher. Is that still within the "safer" range of voltage? Someone at the other forum said exceeding 1.40 could damage the CPU.
That is a good overclock mhdabiad
However I've noticed you've got the same errata my QX9650 was RMA'd for (it's actually a documented errata to which has been discussed in the "Core Temp" thread).
Basically 2 of your cores are not reading the core temperatures correctly and this can cause problems (well it did for me) it seems that the 45nm CPU's are plagued with this problem.
John
That does not bother me much, as long as loaded temps are within norm
.
You have a point if it gives u problems.
Refering to your thread, in my case still better than unknown replacement chip and if it was bad oc'er i'd do it anyway.
This is the least of my worries mind u, after i installed raid (3x500gb). hell broke lose and sudenly my oc is not stable anymore. raised vcore to 1.575 and still not stable in p95 small sft's![]()
Wish I had an address to those asus engineer's![]()

Hi there, i posted this in a dedicated topic but nobody noticed it, so i thought this is the best place for it!
I have a little problem with my wonderful new rig!
Maybe somebody remembers my vga "odissey", asus sent me another one so i fixed this little problem...
Now, i've got some problem with my P5E3 Deluxe + QX9650 + Corsair DDR3 1800!
With the FSB on 450, the system looks pretty stable and it doesn't show any problems, but it often show errors after 1/2 hours of Prime95!
Anybody here with the same rig wants to share his settings with fsb 450 and DDR3 at 1800?
I know it's a little hard for quads![]()
Greetings, Alberto
Hi there,
I am very new with this of overclocking. For now upgrading bit a bit the PC.
As part of my tests, I could update BIOS 0402 with a P4 3Ghz Prescott 630 FSB800 Processor and OCZ DDR3 1600Mhz to 0903... for those that are interested. I don't know if this was going to work... but it do. It is very stable but is getting strange CPU Temp between 40º-75ºC.
Now waiting to getting a new Penryn to do some testing at 1600Mhz FSB/DDR3 to do this synchronous and stable... I hope I could do that with X38 chipset. Any experiences "stables" (included stock speeds) with that config?
Regards.
Hello
I’m completely new to overclocking and have just finished my first build. Upgraded to bios 0903.
Here are some stats running everything at stock:
PCMark05: 6692
3DMark06: 9332
SuperPI (32M): 18m 39sec
Now, here’s what I’ve tried:
FSB: 400
Multiplier: 8.0
Memory Frequency: 1601
Memory timings: 7-7-7-20
I left all the other BIOS settings at default.
Results:
OCCT: Passed
Prime95: Passed 24 hours
Core Temp normal: 30 degrees C
Core Temp highest: 62 degrees C
PCMark05: 8191
3DMark06: 11939
SuperPI (32M): 14m 59sec
So...I was wondering if anyone has any hints or suggestions on where to go from here? I would prefer a higher FSB but my PC won’t POST even at 450FSB. Should I be increasing voltages? Any ideas as to the overclocking potential of my system? Also, I plan to buy a Prelude soundcard - should I set the PCIE frequency to something specific or leave it at Auto? I don’t want my overclocked PC to fry my soundcard...
Thanks for any help.

My own opinion of this mb so far:
a,more stable than maximus se
b,far less vdroop than p5e
still needs another bios update ......

Fair enough, my load temps were way off to though and got stability problems when I maxed 4 cores. (basically system would hardlock but before it would hardlock core3 would throttle!)
My replacement CPU will be with me tomorrow (RMA has taken 20 days due to a shortage of QX9650 stocks in the UK). BTW what pack date is your CPU?
Once again impressive overclock, but I would be wary of the voltage as 45nm is more sensitive to volts than 65nm Conroe. I have heard some people say do not go over 1.5V and others say 1.45v yet you also have others say upto 1.6V is fine. I guess it all depends on the cooling and how long you want to keep it.

First thoughts...
..better (or more correct..) temps...lower voltages..with the oc profiles saved from previous bios doesnt boot , needs step by step again setting..
still testing...
like always..![]()

hmm sry m8, it's been a hard day:-)
Running it now and it seems it has some improvements to memory settigns as well.
Running Dominators @ 1800 7-7-7-18 with default setting, still have a problem with sound though.
Onboard sound: When starting up TS for example a very silent high pitch tone sound is ringing in my ears, but when starting a game the high pitch tone is gone..... anyone else having the same problem?

I have another report for you all...
I reset all my settings to the way they were before, but the bios would not post. That is, it would not even start the display. I had to do the battery removal trick, and then I stepped through all the settings until I found out what caused the trouble, redoing the battery numerous times. I determined that the memory timings were what caused the problem. I was running 6-6-7-24 before (which is not overclocking at all...it's the actual stock of my modules), and I was also running at the stock speed (1600). When the timings are set to 7-7-7-24, it will post. Hope this info is helpful... Good luck.
