I am a noob at soldering, but even I have yet to pull a leg off, the only problem I ran into was using too low of a gauge for wire, making it very large (in terms of tiny electronics), and I connected what should've been 1 wire to one resistor, to alot more than 1.
Just use 22 gauge wire, only have a little bit of wire out of the sleeving, a soldering iron with a small tip, put some solder on the tip, rub the wire until some solder rubs off of the tip and onto the wire, put a little bit more on the tip, put the wire on top of the resistor, and soldering iron on top of the wire, and you should be alright.
If you spill solder on the board, connect the wire to more than the one resistor, or anything like that, well... those are the things I don't yet know.
