    Smile Getting good FSB results now that I changed my memory

    I just though I would briefly post that my memory issues/timings seem to be pretty much sorted. Thanks to C-N for his response His input along with an earlier posting (#29 way back on page 2 of this thread) by Eva2000 helped me refine and stabilize my memory settings a bit.

    Another thums up goes to Praz for clarifying GTL settings and in particular the info on adjusting NB GTL when random cores fail. it turns out my NB GTL and NB voltages were too high.

    The following information was for 467 MHz x 7 multiplier. I am currently testing at 475 FSB x 7 multiplier, and am Prime 95 stable at 2hrs 15 minutes so far. Memory timings and voltages remain the same as before.

    Memory is set at 5-5-5-12 with 2.16 vDIMM, and tRFC has been set at 30. Previously, settings were 5-5-5-18 with 2.37 vDIMM and tRFC was at 66.

    With these settings, Everest Ultimate shows a Memory Read Speed of 9834 MB/s, a Memory Write Speed of 8401 MB/s, a Memory Copy Speed of 8701 MB/s, and a Memory Latency of 51.5 ns.

    As per my request for info from all of you, here is my Prime 95 4 hr stable settings as of last night.

    I am using the 11/07 BIOS, with 1.4 vCore, 1,55 NB Core, 1.6 FSB VTT, and CPU GTL 1/3=118, CPU GTL 0/2=116, andNB GTL=116.

    For the record, I just wanted to note that this is a Q6600 B3 stepping CPU, with batch #L644G191. I believe that once I get water cooled, I will be able to run 8 x with 450-475 FSB (3600-3800 MHz). It is the exta heat of the B3 that is keeping performance down a bit. When I Prime 95 at my current settings, Core temp 0.96 is reading as high as 71 C (although it is typically 64-66 C)

    It feels good when everything starts to come together. As you found out, once NB GTL starts getting close the required memory voltage normally decreases. Proper GTL tuning is the difference between brute force and finesse.

    What GTL settings is a good place to start at stock?

    @praz

    Taking the table posted at the techrepository, would it be alright if I reduce the values indicated there by around 10 when using wolfdales?

    @emon

    we have exactly the same FPO/Batch.

    try runnning 32m. and start tightening your ram timings.

    I realize I'm a bit late on the E8400 on this board conversation but I just installed the E8400 on this board about 40min ago after pulling it out of my Maximus Extreme (to check temps because it was running very hot in the Maximus underwater and at stock voltage/clocks). Well its doing the same exact thing in this board.

    At the moment its running at 3.0Ghz on 1.08v and the idle temps are 41C-44C. Plus when I was running it in the Maximus the CoreTemp VID was 1.1000v and its now reading 0.9750v with same version of CoreTemp (0.96.1)? This is crazy, are other guys getting these uber temps or what? I did read one guy was on the last page but anyone else? Plus are anybodys VID's changing on you over time? By the way, like the last guy I reseated my waterblock twice with no difference in temps at all? Everest Ultimate is also reading same temps (although I guess they would since they pull data from same sensor).

    Just for reference, when I pulled my E6850 out of this same board 40min ago it was idling at 23C-25C at 3.825Ghz and 1.425v? I'm affraid to push it or bench tonight because of all this? I'm going to keep messing around as it could be something I'm just not noticing or something like that?

    btw, about ram coolers...

    will the OCZ XTC ram cooler fit in my current setup? or should I stick with the Corsair Dominator fan?

    Thanks.

    I actually just tried using the Corsairs Dominator fan on my DFI P35 but it actually hit my GTX so I didn't feel comfortable letting that happen? Especialy because my voltage mods are right in that area? Has anyone else had any luck running the Dominator fan on this board along with their GTX, Ultra, or the likes?

    windwithme used the dominator fan in his review. he did not have a shot at the clearance between the PCB and the edge of the fan.

    Now, my video card isn't as long as an nVidia 8800GTX/Ultra, but the PCB DOES extend past where the fan mounts. I would think your clearances would basically be the same. I have probably got an 1/8"-3/16" of clearance, but it does work and is worth the effort if you are running high overclock and voltages with your memory.

    Thanks, I may get the corsair instead of the OCZ. It would seem I will have mounting troubles with it.

    @GripS

    Thanks. I'll be sticking with pure H20 from now on. Took me a day to clean the mess up. hehehe

    I have had 2 sets of the Corsair Fans and after a short while they both sqeal like pigs when they are starting.

    Nothing like showing someone your hardcore OC'ed rig and fire it up and it sounds like the power steering belt on a '78 Ford 150.

    Great part about it is that they are just cheep enough to forget about an RMA.

    1) I too have core temp issues. My first day or two I ignored them believing that if the temps were really spiking as high as 90C (!!!!), there is no way the chip would have been stable. I have since backed all the way down until I either hear confirmation about inaccurate results or get a water cooling loop installed. What is your batch number?

    2) I doubt this is the case, but C-N reported a changing VID as a portent for chip degradation. That being said, his happened on the same board so you are more than likely fine.

    I really want to know what's up with these temps

    I wouldn't be too bothered about the VID changing as I am not 100% certain but I always understood the VID to be variable. The VID will also change if you have EIST, C1E enabled.

    I have also heard just today from a couple of people on different boards that there VID has changed as they overclocked.

    I dont have an E8*00 test anymore but the VID probably changes as you pump voltage in

    I think it may just be a coincidence me noticing my VID changing before my chip died
