    MSi K9A2 PLatinum issues

I just set my system up last night and I gotta say it was the worst I have had to deal with in my history of builds. Multipl BSOD's when I would run with two sticks of RAM finally got them working in ganged mode. The one problem I have right now is no way to control my fan speeds the settings in the BIOS dont seem to work and speedfan wont slow them down so as I type this I am listening to a leaf blower.

Did you set your RAM volts and timings in BIOS?

    MB defaults to 1.8v - I think that OCZ needs more (2.1 / 2.2v?).
Speedfan will not work correctly yet as the Fintek IO chip is not fully supported as it is new. Have you tried the Zalman Fanmate ?

Most of the time with new components, it turns out to be user error frankly. The 2GB/4GB kits have had problems on this board and on any board for a long while now. They get later support with new products.

You said you get multiple BSODs... how did you install the OS then?

Make sure it's not the same exact OS as you used for another board or else you're asking to get BSODs.

Take one stick out and then try to POST. Try and find out why you get a BSOD before adding components, bootup BSODs are hardware error unless they're at the stage of driver loading. So install one HD, one RAM stick, just CPU fan and try and move into installing the OS. See how far you get.

I did a fresh install and got all of the way through it but when Windows was starting for the first time it would BSOD and reboot I eventually removed one stick and she booted up. I then had to select ganged mode and set the timmiings of 4-4-4-15 with 2.2 volts and it ran fine with both sticks. The board does not like my G15 being plugged into a hub so I had to eventually plug it directly in the board this took some trial and error to figure out but that is now working well. All I need now is to slow down my fans and I will flash to the 1.13 Beta BIOS.

I had no problem with the setup of this mobo when I got it 3 weeks ago. In fact I can honestly say that it was the easiest install I ever did

Are you sure one of the memory sticks isnt bad??

Actually it doesn't really change anything. I'm running similar setup and have had no BSOD issues, even after fresh Windows Install. Only real difference is my ram has default volt req of 1.8 instead of higher stuff.

As far as I know the only fan speed that can be controlled in BIOS is the CPU fan. In order for that to work it has to have a 4 pin connector like the one that comes with the CPU. Otherwise you need to find a program that has support for the boards sensor chip. Mine uses the Fintek F71882F.

true, true........maybe the cpu is causing the problem then??

any way to maybe test it out in another system or even swap cpus into your mobo?

P States work just like multipliers once you figure them out. Figuring them out is the hard part.

Unganged memory mode is basically what the X2 uses. Just means the memory bandwidth is split into 2 64k channels, ganged combines the 2 channels into a 128k channel.

Just thinking about it though, My memory arrived about 4 days before my k9a2 did, so I ended up burning it in on my old ASRock ALive nf7g HDReady, with the X2 4200+. Then I burned in the k9a2 plat with the X2 4200+ and memory. Then just a couple weeks ago I got ahold of the 9600BE, more or less switched out the procs set things properly in the BIOS and had almost no issues. Bout the only issue I had was needing to reinstall Windows due to it going batty after the change in NB and HT speeds between the two procs.

Huh, would of helped if you said you were running Vista. The other diff would be I'm running XP Pro

Fan speeds can be controlled if you have a 4-pin connector with the fan, through the BIOS fan control section in H/W Monitor or something like a fanmate or... with PWM control using something like Speedfan (can't verify it works with the MSI 790FX because I've tried the rest but not this).
