Hmm.. ~scratches head~... Ok, so my mb arrived and inside the box is one CD. The label of the disk says:

    LANPARTY UT/LT UTILITY CD
    P35 Series Ver. 002
    • Chipset Drivers
    • Audio Drivers
    • RAID Drivers
    • Network Drivers
    • Tools

...since I'm preparing to swap out the mb, I was trying to create a Slipstream'd XP install CD with the DFI drivers already patched in. So, I put the disk in the tray and iTunes wants to play it! I figure something just got out of whack, so I cancel that and point my browser at it... sure enough, there's just one file listed ("File 7 of 15.cda" or something like that).

So, it looks like I got a bad driver CD - sigh.

Anyway, I went to the DFI driver page and there's not much there for the LT, but I assume I can just grab the driver files for the UT board (?)

    - If I'm not planning to run a RAID setup, do I need to worry about installing the RAID drivers at all?

    - Anyone know what the "Intel INF Utility" is? Is that the basic chipset drivers? Should I just install this after the OS? (the documentation is contradictory - stating that the OS MUST be installed first, then giving instructions on how to pre-install the .inf package before the OS).

    - Anything else I should look out for?

I don't have a floppy, but I do have a USB stick I can use to update the BIOS with (I assume I should use the latest release BIOS).

    Thanks.

If not using RAID these are the files you need. Intel Inf is the chipset driver. Smart I/O is SmartGuardian. After operating system install install the drivers in the order listed.

    Intel INF Utility
    Audio Driver
    LAN Drivers
    Smart I/O Driver

The 1/09 beta bios is the best for Wolfdales and it seems great for me and a few others I've heard. With the 12/24 bios it was hit or miss if it actually booted.

Thanks... I had already downloaded those from this link but the Audio file was not listed there. I think I'll hold off on slipstreaming the drivers and just install them after the OS, as you suggest.

Talking Well this one aint blown up yet!!!!!

Well my 2nd 8400 eats yellow snow compared to the one that got away but at least its run longer than 6 hours & its @ 4GHz .075v lower than my E6850 could run.

I noticed the CPU VID is/was different between the 1224 & 0109 BIOS, the 0109 BIOS was lower something like 1.03** ish.

This Q744A761 CPU will still hit 600fsb but 590 is the max you can bench before it starts random reboots.

If any feels like PM'ing me a quick rundown of NB/Vcore/VTT voltages and corresponding GTL's @ successfull booting and semi stable/stable clocks with Wolfdale's, I will try to get a spreadsheet ( it will be crude ) going.

I seem to be at a weird wall around 4.5Ghz and cannot get past it. I mean 4320Mhz is rock stable and 4450 is random rebootsville and 4500Mhz internet surfing is unstable at any voltage. Seems odd to me.

If anybody wants a heckuva read abou the birth of 45nm, I suggest you read this...

    http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/oct07/5553

AMD is up the creek if they are having problems with 65nm...

    Yes, 600MHz 5-5-5-12 with 2.1V.

I've got PC2-6400 versions with micron D9GMH chips. 2x1Gb kit costs here about 65euros.
    Pretty good performance per €.

OEM is indeed the same thing as a retail chip. Just doesn't have anything with it. Everybody that has one of these 8400's seems to be getting some very good results.
