Dang right those are some great results.
I take it that run was on your other board not the DFI.
You must have got the E8400 on Monday.
    is that a "745" or a "746" you have?

It was the DFI UT P35-T2R. I bought 3 8400s on Friday, Q745A372 1.225v pack date of 12/20/07.

Let's see what I can do with this beta bios. I also want to get some dry ice and maybe some LN2 to see what this can do. If you want to get together let me know.

Heh.... At stock settings Everest just plain reboots now after trying to launch after the install.... Not sure what the deal with that is. It's Everest Ultimate 4.0 if anyone else wants to know or is having the same issue.

As for my NB temps. I'm starting to question what is really acceptable and what isn't. By default the BIOS has 'NB not fully on until 55C'. I have it cranked down so the fan runs full speed constantly anyway.... Just an observation. When i was running the system at stock speeds/volts the NB temp was still ~40C at idle. I'm starting to think i've got a bum chip that just runs hot. At least it's stable at 3.6 (8x450FSB). I would like to be able to try for more but the temps concern me. Going to tear it apart and redo everything this weekend.

About 1/2 what the E8500 would have cost me and I really didn't have the extra $150 anyway

The LT LP is used and I believe it has the 9/13 bios on it (and I have a spare bios chip also 9/13)
Doubt if I'll get a chance to do my 1st Intel build until Saturday.
I hoping it at least boots so I can flash the 0109 Bios.

So Campbell I have everything here.
Drew, long PM is coming your way this weekend.
John and Graham, keep your support hotlines open.

Intel, please be gentle with me

I had to use my Q6600 to update the BIOS. I cannot remember which one it was but it was around the end of October or so. It would POST but woud not allow me into the bios or past IDE detection at all.

Hope you have another chip to flash with.

    Hey TurtleTrax,

How's it going with the e8400? What's your best stable OC? Are you manually setting your sub timings or leaving on auto?

I got one and did the gtl/vtt lowering which helped a lot. Can get in and run superpi at 4.5ghz 1.43 vcore, but that's about the best. It really ratchets up the need for volts after 4.3ghz.

    Let's compare notes a little.

    Hey MC.

I am still playing around with max clocks. I kinda feel like I am kinda bumping around in the dark tho. Seems so different than with 65nm. Also am setting my subtim ings as auto right now to take as may questionmarks out of the equation as possible. Havent played with the 2x2GB G.Skill Promos stix much yet either.

I am in the same ballpark as you as far as clocks and Vcore. I can run 32m SuperPI at 4.5 and 1.423 Vcore, but nothing seems get it it stable. I am priming for zNGigglez at 4Ghz and 1.288v right now, as I am trying to find max clock/low voltage for the chips final home in my HTPC and air cooling.

Hoping to find out what I am doing wrong this weekend as I would really like to get 4.8Ghz bench stable and 4.5Ghz full prime. Time will tell I guess. I do have to say how much I love XS for the swarm of information on the release so far. Pretty impressive

    Edit: 4.05ghz 1.275 Vcore

Would you define high temps? I easily idle in the mid 40' and under very high stress during prime my chipset gets to 60c. If yours is around or lower than that I would consider you well off considering what I am getting for temps. What is the max you see your PWM get to? I have seen mine as high as 68c without much effort.

    Unfortunately no spare 775 processors.
But I do have a spare Bios chip.
Was hoping that the latest Tmod/Loggan Bios CD would let me flash it.
(Maybe a hotflash on my 939 Ultra-D would work?)

Got my board yesterday, spend half the night getting everything installed (reworked my water loop too). I got an extra 100 mhz for the same voltage compared to the P5K! The only thing I am disappointed in is not being able to control the 3 aux fans. I can control the NB fan, chasis fan and probably cpu fan, but now fans 1, 2 and 3. I have one of my pumps connected to the cpu fan, so my only hope is that I don't overload the fan headers.

Well.... I am basing this off of a review i read on the P35 chipset where it compared the thermal output to the P965 chipset (which is what i had before this board). My temps on the P965-S (after modding the NB heatsink and mounting a fan) were low 30's idle and ~40C under load. Then i came across an overclocking guide for this board and that suggested temps be at or below 45C.

As for the PWM. I have seen 60C under load. I will probably remove the PWM heatsink this weekend and replace the stock tim/pad with some arctic ceramique. Currently i have a 40mm fan mounted on the I/O vent pulling cool air in. Had there not been a heatsink there i'm sure i would be looking at mid to high 60's.

Thanks for reporting your temps. Looks like i'm not doing so bad after all.

    woo-hoo!
Got it to boot after a couple of C1's (turned off PSU and did a 30 second CMOS jumper clear - no BATTERY PULL used).
But it wouldn't let me into the Bios so I disconnected the HDD forcing the CD Rom to boot.
I managed to flash the 109 with the Tmod/Loggan Bios CD.
(Board was on the 10/05 Bios originally)
Once flashed I was able to enter the 0109 Bios
Out of the case on a table with CPU at 25 (Zalman 9700), PWM at 46 and Chipset at 39 in the bios at Defaults.
Gonna check around in the Bios and then connect an HDD.

Pretty happy, just hope I don't dork anything.

hmmmm..... 39C on the chipset at stock settings on an out of the case build.... Now i'm really thinking i've been stressing over nothing.

Dude! That's great, I bet it feels good to find stability that low vcore. I'm still jumping all over the place with quick tests and trying for fast superpi 1m before I lock it down.

So what were all of the final voltage settings to get that stable? Did you manually set the sub timings or leave it all at auto? What about the fine clock fine delay, did you mess with that?

If you have the time I'd love to see your bios.

    Thanks Turtle!

screwed up a little as I loaded windoz at 3.5
Gonna do the updates and then SP3.
BlueAqua is coming over tomorrow morning and we'll see if we can do a lil 4G+ action.

This is the board that was giving ooeric booting fits.
I just might have some compatible components.
Really been a breeze so far.
    Man this thing boots fast.

I'll post all the settings once I get her hot and bothered.
Thanks for the vote on confidence Praz and kitfit1

SG is reading 14 degrees on the CPU and it's about 60 in here so I doubt if it is correct.

Big shout out to SuperShanks lurking around this thread

Look ma, I'm driving an Intel.

Go into the PC Health section of the BIOS and adjust the CPU temp offset to bring it close inline with what CoreTemp reports.

Be careful with the wolf guys, I don't know if I just got unlucky or what but I had a nice E8400 & it lasted 6 hours @ 600fsb then it went super nova & I never had it over 1.4v.

    What CPU?

Try some clock gen voltage 3.60 3.75 also play with the GTL's would be my guess.
