    E8500 - Q745A554 - VID 1.125v - AIR

I bet this chip can SPI higher then this. My ram is limiting me bad at 510FSB. I get errors in SPI at 6 x 509 and upwards.... I'm gonna get some Ballistix in 2 weeks or so and will push it more.

Anyway, here are the results. Ignore the low multi in CPUZ, i cannot disable EIST with the latest bios from Asus, it was set at 9.5x at all time.

    Setup:
    Asus P5K-E /w 1006 Bios
    Gigabyte 8800GTX @ 660 / 1674 / 1107 (GPU / Shader / Ram) /w 171.16 drivers
    2GB Geil Ultra PC6400 @ 1:1 5-5-5-15
    Thermalright Ultra120A
    WinXP SP2
    Room temperature - 24C

Click on pics for bigger version.

    Max Spi 1M @ 4829Mhz

    3DMark01

    3DMark03

    3DMark05

    3DMark06

I didn't go for max clocks because of my ram limiting me....

This CPU runs very hot btw. Currently Orthos-ing for about 30 mins @ 4300Mhz @ 1.48v and i have around 68C.

    You mean "-24*"
    or "+24*"
Cos if second one, you have an extra extra effective AIR cooler giving you 40* Idle after 1M Spi with 4828@1.66V

No way man, my water cooling is reading 51* idle with 24/7 freq and 21*C ambient 4400mhz@1.52V

Yeah, +24C of course. I'm not some damn eskimo. 40C idle is a Core Temp bug. I get 40C idle even at stock frequency and voltage.

Orthos stable for an hour which is good enough for me. Don't want to stress it anymore at those high temps.

The bad news is that i've got some Ballistix to test with(thanks bonzo_catalin). I tried them first by setting a divisor and they worked no problem at 550Mhz @ 4-4-4-4. However, i then set the CPU multi to 6x and tried the thing at 510Mhz FSB 1:1 and no go. Windows just crashed.

So it's either CPU fsb wall which is not likely... all i've seen went up to ~530-570+ or it's either my mobo limiting me. I'm guessing the culprit is the latter

Tryed NB voltage at 1.30, 1.40, 1.55, 1.70, FSB term. voltage at 1.20, 1.40 (max), CPU PLL at auto and 1.5v, SB voltage at auto and 1.20v. No go.

While nice and appreciated, that isn't what I'd look for. 8hr P95 stability at least with good temps and 24/7 volts. 45nmm hates high voltage and hates high temps too, quick deaths and degradation. Plus 55C you won't pass much stability prroperly. BTW, you're using the outdated CPUZ.

I bet it will! If you lay some 1.65v on it that is Maybe yours will go higher if you don't have mobo fsb wall @ 510.

Yes. With the 0906 bios there is no way in hell to get cpu voltages between 1.5 and 1.59v. I've posted a voltage list in the Asus P5K-E thread regarding what voltage you set in bios and what you actually get using 0906. You might want to check it out

Ok. I found out what my problem was. Temperatures. My DVI cable managed to catch my eye somehow and i noticed that it was quite long. Here's what happened next....

Motherboard temperature in bios was 11C, CPU temp always stayed (idle) at 21C (i think that's a bug... it was 21C @ stock volts and mhz and 21C @ ~4900 and 1.68v). Outside temperature was 1C

Max clock or max FSB (i cannot disable EIST so i get 6x multi in CPUZ... it was set as 9.5x in bios as setfsb shows it though) @ 9.5 x 530.6 = 5040.6Mhz

    09.484s Spi1M @ 9.5 x 516.2 = 4904.5Mhz

I cannot disable EIST man. Multi auto goes to 6x while idle. I could not throw some orthos at it to send it back to 9.5x at those freq and manage to get a screenshot too... it would crash within miliseconds.

Don't want to lose max overclocking potential by using it 24/7 at the rather high 1.48v so i'm gonna settle for this for 24/7. SS clocking coming tommorow hopefully
