E8500 @ 4700Mhz ALL AIR on Asus Commando

    Hey guys!

Well...it seems that Wolfdale is a true monster, and we are getting back to the old P4 clocks one more

This was done by my fellow forum-member Asus-Commando, as he was testing his brand new E8500. Unfortunately, he doesn't speak english (and he created an account here only yesterday), so I'll be posting this story for him.

    Testbed:

    E8500 Q740A
    Asus Commando - Bios 1604
    Team Xtreem 2x1Gb DDR2 800 3-3-3
    Noctua NH-U12F + Noctua fans

Windows open, room temperature ~10 oC.

    Some pictures with the setup

All air, in the case, with Noctua fans.... Fortunately, we have a very cold winter this year

So this is my friend's story, he is very hapy about this CPU, and I can't wait to put it under Dice or LN2

Plz do a post at 9.5x400 @ 9.5x450 which are reasonable fsbs for 24/7 use with only the required vcore

Great clocks there on air, but some e8500 cpu's don't seem to like 1.5v+ for 24/7 use and just die after a while.... hope this is not going to happen anymore, could you see what you can get stable at let's say 1.45v?

Friend: Do you have a spare PSU lying around?
    Me: No why?
Friend: My PSU just blew up, I think the second 8800GTX might have been too much for it to handle
Me: what PSU was that again?
    Friend: Antec 480w

Not really all but many does at such high voltage, I'd like to see what voltage it needs for clocks like 4.4 ~ 4.5GHz personally to see if that would be 24/7 possible as I'm gonna pick up a E8400 and I'd really wanna reach 4.2GHz or so but for 24/7 usage I wouldn't use more than 1.5v or so, that's already quite a lot for a 45nm cpu.

At least Wolfdale doesn't look to be running that hot so it probably could whitstand say 1.6~1.65v for a longer period tempwise also on air if ambient temp is fine but the high voltage will still ruin it in the long run.

    Orthos

    Hey guys,

this is what he did in Orthos until now:

    3800@1,35v
    4000@1,40v
    4200@1,45v

He si trying Orthos at 4420Mhz with 1.53v, but Orthos and DualPrime close right after he starts them. It doesn't give an error, it doesn't shut down the PC, they just turn off. I suppose that the system is not stable, but the behaviour is weird...

    Today i played with a watercooled E8400 . We only tried orthos for stability . With 1.5V real(1.55bios) , orthos stable at 4350Mhz. With 1.3V real (1.35bios) 4000Mhz orthos . Also , 4.5Ghz & 1.55V we run superpi .

    What is the Room temp?

The CPU is really nice on FSB, how good it is in MHz depends on room temp
