This looks outdated, December time news.
We can already get lower priced Wolfdales in small quantities here and no Yorkies for a while here.
High-end TDP scares me at 45nm with all the nFET perf/leakage benefits especially when you compare Q9650 3.2Hz to QX9650 3.2GHz to QX9770 3.2GHz to QX9775 3.2GHz. Big variance.
^March would still be on the Q1 timeframe... And let's hope Intel will release these procs. soon, not those sad news about erratums like the ones they're telling on the press... Early Q1 to late Q1 would still be good but no such solid dates are confirmed...![]()

Intel is in a time where they greatly overestimate TDP.
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=3184&p=2
Just like my E5405/E5410 is specced to 65W TDP, yet they use less than my 50W TDP L5320 and L5335
Another example is the dualcores that stays at 65W all the way from 1.6Ghz to 3.33Ghz.
Why you might ask? Well look at AMD and their greenline show not long ago. Thats kicking themselves in the rear end now. I must say tho I adore their approach that helped change the industry focus. Anyway, the point is now that AMD sits with preshot class CPUs and even had to invent ACP due to it. If AMD had been quiet back then and kept TDP numbers up. Nobody would really notice.
Now lets look at the future. The table could turn again. And raising TDP values to stay competetive just dont look good if you already lowered them. Also looking abit more ahead its nice to have some headroom for the onboard GPU/IMC/PCIe that are coming.
In short, its easier to give than to take.

Crunching for Comrades and the Common good of the People.
That graph should be completed with the voltage used in each frequency. Of course they haven't used default for 4,40Ghz, so that power consumption in real life should be even lower. And that's another point for Intels 45nm process![]()

"To exist in this vast universe for a speck of time is the great gift of life. Our tiny sliver of time is our gift of life. It is our only life. The universe will go on, indifferent to our brief existence, but while we are here we touch not just part of that vastness, but also the lives around us. Life is the gift each of us has been given. Each life is our own and no one else's. It is precious beyond all counting. It is the greatest value we have. Cherish it for what it truly is."

Woot, Q6600 for $224. I might just have to build a new rig after Apr.
where the heck did that E7200 come from?? What a random chip to throw in that lineup...to the unaware consumer, a 1,000 difference between that and the E8xxx's looks like a lot of performance
any to the aware consumer...well, we would never buy that chip, so it doesn't really matter, now does it?

Yeah, just like how everyone is avoiding the E4x00 series because it's a '2000 point' difference from the E6x00 series.![]()
Why would we never buy that chip? Since when did they appoint you spokesman for enthusiasts?![]()
For one, the 800FSB is perfect for overclocking on the cheap. It means less stress on the chipset and is budget RAM friendly. It'll only be a few % slower than the 6MB chips clock for clock, and the $133 pricetag doesn't hurt either.

E4700s are allendales.
As for the e7200 being a 2.53ghz chip. The stated 800fsb mean that the multiplier is between 2530/200 = 12.65 and 2533.33/200 = 12.666. That makes no sense.
With a 1066fsb the multiplier becomes somewhere between 2533.33/266.66 = 9.5 which makes much more sense.
