    real impressive if currently good wolfdales can go 4ghz with < 1.3v. hopefully will mean the more runtier ones will be able to do 4ghz at or below 1.36
    probably scale close to 3.85-4.05ghz for 1.3625v for E8500 at least on average cpus

    thanks.. yeah no Asus love lately - maybe scared of the amount of memory/divider performance related feedback I always provide LOL

    I'm in the same situation Should I get a E8500 or wait & get a Q9450?? The rig will be mainly used for gaming & DVD ripping/encoding. Any opinions would be appreciated. Will be clocking on air & running 4x1gb PC2-8500 on a P5K premium.

    very same question was here, but I am pretty sure I have decided for myself. Is a york at lets say even 3.4 would botleneck any game? (even those that will not use all 4 cores?) - I dont think so... And then come all the advantages of a quad (encoding, snappier system?, potential advantages , future games)...

    So here is the answer - Q9450 FTW

    *I see also no sence for myself to go for dual, then quad etc... york straight away --> a lil overclock (3.4 or maybe up to 3.6)... next step 32nm chips most likely (maybe less fun, but also less money spent at the end --> which will have to go for a next gen GPU anyway)

    sorry for a little off topic

    yeah for video encoding quad core would be better as long as your video encoding software is multi-thread/cpu supported... otherwise if software you use ain't then higher clocked dual core cpu would be better

    These Penryns sure are amazing. The next couple of months will be interesting.

    Thanks for the thorough testing as always, eva.

    Started to play with my 2x 512MB HIS HD3850 IceQ3 Turbo Crossfire pair with their stock bioses so I can use ATI CCC to overclock both cards.

    @715/909 Stock speeds

    @783/1098 Oc'd speeds

    Still looks like 3dmark06 is cpu limited unless you use quad core but 3dmark05 is nice nearly 30K!

    More to come

    How do these chips compare with the others as far as the WOW factor? They really seem like fun cpu's.

    Hmm, what's the stable setting? Something that could allow you to prime and use daily?

    Wonder if one of those would work well in my IP35-E.

    4000mhz at 1.28v prime95

    555FSB max validation, 547FSB 1M, 540FSB 4M, 535-538FSB 32M so fair all water cooled with CPU PLL 1.5v

    Now did the pencil GPU volt mod on my HIS HD3850 cards, very hard to pencil ended up reducing card's stock resistance from 2.262k ohm to 1.938k ohm (1.294v 3D load) and other card from 2.258k ohm to 1.900k ohm (1.305v 3D load), so that cards do 810mhz and 823mhz GPU respectively by themselves.

    Together in CF mode, 810Mhz GPU seems to be max which is up from default 789Mhz GPU, so a 21mhz GPU gain from some 2B lead magic
