FYI dude, just about ANY PCI-e board with dual PCI-e 16x slots can support SLI and I guerantee it.
it's just a matter of it being made available in the drivers.
and yes I have a set of hacked drivers to prove it.

I know, many extreme ppl won't think this is a smart idea.
But if you really wanted sli on intel, you'd simply stop buying nV graphics, go ati for now and crossfire, and force nvidia's hand.
A year of that would easily be enough, with even a group like xs, to have nvidia change there ways.
But since this will never happen, I guess we'll just have to wait, til we can pay extra for sli on an intel board.![]()

guys... dont get too excited...
this part explains why:
nvidia does have a chip that makes sli possible on any non nvidia chipset.. intel has the rights to use it for skulltrail.would have to put Nvidia's SLI chip inside
all fud figured out is that this specific chip could also be implemented on non skulltrail boards.
But this chip does nothing but allow the software to install, so why use the chip at all. Maybe a nice piece of software that can load via usbkey or something, which then triggers loading of the windows boot loader. To fake the chip, then when windows boots, it thinks you've got the chip.

the problem is that the software is encrypted and the chip contains the "key". the encryption is there to prevent what you described from happening.
it allows nvidia to control exaclty who can get sli and who not.
if one would hack the software (happened in the past, but very old version of the software that doesnt support current graphicscards) then yes, it would become possible to have sli on any mainboard even without the chip from nvidia. but that woudnt be official support and would be stopped by nvidia with the next driver release.
Yup, they obviously don't need or want my business so I'll just never buy a product from them again. Having been a victim of there boards before, that mistake will never happen again.
No matter what people who are given the board for free say about it.
If 8800 was a flop, I'm sure we would have our intel sli support.

1 Each new generation of chip (not a refresh) typically makes an SLI version of the prior generation obsolete. So SLI isn't as needed as it once was, for tis reason and because a single 8800 will run a 30" monitor now in most things.
2 R700 might actually be a good chip. I'm not an insider on this but usually ATI recovers from stumbles pretty well, and if it were to be a competitive chip, then going CF would be a reasonable option and Nvidia can get left out in the cold yes?
Just some thoughts, because this topic is gradually getting less and less important. Nvidia is working SLI out of the marketplace because it doesn't want to be on the #1 chipset. That's their choice. CF will be competitive again (remember the years that Nvidia stumbled?).
" Not as simple as just adding a chip ... "
" Even though the nForce 200 chipset was present, the Nvidia drivers would detect the Intel chipset and refuse to play nice with SLI on the board. "
This is a good one ... !!!

Not again... please. SLI will not be available on X38/X48 mobos, so stop the FUD.

SLI on Intel will be easy in a few weeks... 9800GX2!
Same old stuff.
If you guys want to make a point to nVidia on this take the time to get together 50,000 names on a petition.
Hit all the forums, start a grass roots movement to tell them your sick of this BS from them.
Simply state that you are tired of being the pawns in this di*k slapping contest between nVidia and Intel. That you choose Intel cpu's and you choose nVidia graphics but if they continue this game you are being forced to move to ATI. Set a 180 day timetable, demand an answer and then stick to it and stop buying nVidia after that time.
You have immense power if you get together.
In business, money talks and BS walks and that is what companies listen to and ALL they listen to.
Speak with your purchases and they will hear you VERY fast!![]()
Even though I don't use 2 cards my next purchase will be ATI just from principle on this.

Its fuddy fuad again..lets see.
1. Make sensational announcement. (SLI on x38/x48!) Check!
2. Make cover the rear part mark 1. (Say it need extra chip that they might not put in.) Check!
3. Make super cover the rear part mark 2. (Say even if chip, nVidia could deny it.) Check!
So nomatter what happens, he will be right and could always say: But I said so...
Why do people read his little nonsense site again? If you want fantasy and dreams there are alot better alternatives.
Crunching for Comrades and the Common good of the People.
Absolutely. Money talks and BS walks. nVidia wants to unfairly compete by blocking technology from a competitor. When Intel does something half as bad, forums over the whole WWW explode.
Not trying to be a Jerk or anything but isn't about time we stand up for American Companies? I did buy an ATI video card and SLI was a factor in my doing so. @$%# you nVidia LOL!

there yo go bringing intel into a amd thread again lol, if that was someone droping a dig at amd you would be crying like a girl.qft!
Guys: Listen to the old fart.
Don't get mad, force the issue. Show your strength.
Get a petition and make them see what can happen when people get together.
That old line of "There's strength in numbers" is so true.
Here's an opportunity for you to show them how you feel.![]()
