Hey guys im setting up my board, however im having some difficulty removing the northbridge heatsink, it appears to be stuck on there pretty damn tight, so much so that im bending the board soome from trying to remove it, ive unscrewed the screws, removed the backplate, and taken the clip off, but no go so far. How firmly stuck is it usually to the thermal pad.

If i can get close-to the same speeds as my QX9650 why pay $900 more????

Below is my second WC setup, my first build was on a Maximus Xtreme. I get better stability on the DX38BT hands down. I would like to get some beter mem on board though.

Notice the MCW60... I used ethernet wire to make loops through the holes in the board ^^^^^^^
I had the Q6600 up to 445 FSB. I didn't go beyond that because I needed it in another rig but there were no indications that it wouldn't go higher. vCORE was 1.5000.

First boot into maintenance mode and disable the "Watchdog".
    What are your OC objectives?

You should be able to do 400FSB without breaking a sweat.

Mine was pretty firm but heat and a twisting motion helped. There's an IHS underneath so it's not as delicate as other NBs.

Am i wrong here, or shouldnt the Q6600 @ 4Ghz be close to the QX9650 @ 4Ghz? Can the cahce help that much? Newegg has Q6600 for $274 for crying out loud! And i got a late christmas present! The place i ordered my last thermochill PA120.2 from sent me 2 Rads by mistake! OOPS! Now i gotta buy the rest of the stuff to make another WC Setup... I think thats sneeky marketing LOL!

I watercooled the NB, but was it really neccessary..... I think a re-application of good thermalpaste and a little fan would have been fine.

I wonder if Intel fixed thier vista audio drivers yet, anyone tried the ones from thier site recently?

The cache DOES help so you have to look at the application. Compute intensive apps will probably be close. Memory intensive apps will probably benefit from the larger cache. Does it justify the extra $800? Not for me.

The NB really only needs the extra cooling if the voltage is raised significantly or you're going for extra quiet operation. I probably didn't need to do mine either but I was already cooling the NBs on my XBX2s so it was no extra work to do the BT.

Haven't tried Intel's Vista audio drivers. The stock drivers work fine for me.

Does the SB get hot enough for that Tt Extreme Spirit? I have the same HSF on the NB of my BadAxe2, but I think the fan is either dying or not plugged into a header with enough power.

On all the motherboards ive ever used, under heavy harddrive activity they tend to get pretty hot, now probably the stock heatsink is fine, but i just wanted to have a reason to use that thing. Ill probably upgrade to an HR-05 on both chipsets and just go for all out bling.

That CPU OC´s good on Asus Maximus Formula SE, like 475MHzx8.

Why CPU voltage is totaly different than it is setted from CPU override menu? I have setted 1,55V and hardwaremonitor and Everest shows 1,44V.

Nobody seems to have 8x450MHZ bios screens?

BTW, disablig Watchdog did´nt do anything for me.
Highest FSB I can boot is 350MHz for any multiplier.

It'd help if you updated your signature so we can see exactly what hardware you're running.

It is testbed project machine, so I´m not including it to my profile.

    It has:
    - Intel DX38BT with latest bios
    - 2x Corsair CM3X1023-1600C7DHXIN
    - QX6700 ES
    - Alphacool Answer III small watercooling system
    - Geforce 7500LE
    - Corsair 750W PSU
    - Optiarc S-ATA DVDRW
    - Seagate 200GB S-ATA HDD
    - Vista X64

I finaly did get it going 8x400MHz, it was pretty painful operation:

I have to take some photos from bios.

Is there an issue with this board where it doesnt have an option to disable C1E, cus my cpu is still throttling even with vistas power management set and EIST disabled.

Yes, C1E is always enabled. You can use Everest or RMClock to disable it or use the driver that was posted in the XBX2 thread to automatically disable it on startup. Do you really need to disable it though? I do it for benchmarks but leave it on for normal operation.

Well i got the C1E all figured out, i skimmed through your post last night and found out about that, however on vista i need to disable driver signing, and for some reason driver signing re-enables every time you reboot.

More to the point, i havent been able to establish an OC on this board for some reason, i dont know if the different style of the bios is mixing me up or not, but i was running 3ghz on my E2140 on my last board. Do you think you can give me a quick rundown of what i am doing wrong here before i put this motherboard in the for sale section LOL

An E2140 huh? What memory? What does the BIOS report as the SPD for the memory? What does the memory and reference frequency default to?

Might I suggest putting the E2140 up for sale instead of the board?

Im using some patriot value ram until i can figure out a way to get more expensive ram, spd reports 7-7-7-20, 1066, which is the case, and im keeping the ram at default speeds. I can oc to about 1.9ghz, anything above that, and it doesnt matter how much voltage i throw at it, it wont boot.

In bios1397 the board set 1T by default. It's OK if I only plug 2 dimms. I can run my STT DDR-1600 stable @ 800MHz 7-7-7-20 CR1, vNB 1.30v. But it's very hard to run 4x1GB memory at 1T. Intel should let user choose 1T or 2T in BIOS.

The board is very stable once you find the right settings. I can run my QX9650 4GHz prime95 smallfft @ 1.242v load.

    (still doing pre-build research)

Based on the last post above, whats everyones opinion on the latest BIOS? Did it add anything of noticeable improvement? Or was BIOS 1358 stable and possibly an equal or better alternative?

I ask both because of what the last poster stated about a 1T default, but also because my Intel DP35DP mobo had an odd second December BIOS release that caused me a bunch of problems. (Maybe this latest round of Intel BIOS updates were taken out of the oven too soon?)

One other question, I picked up a USB floppy drive. Will I be able to use that and iFlash to update the BIOS?
